The Israel / Palestine Conflict - Is There A Solution?

Newest Review: ... a childs interpretation of events was actually pretty much correct. The UN, in 1947, declared that Palestine should be divided into two states, one Jewish and one Arab, and although this was a rash move, it went ahead. However, the very next year, Israel declared independance, which had not been part of the plan, as this put them into direct opposition with Muslims countries, by cutting themselves off from Palestine. It was this act that provoked their neighbouring ex state, as they were directly rejecting them, thus offending them. This was followed by a war between the two, which Israel won. This was largely due to funding from rich J... more

Now, this seems to be cropping up quite a bit as a discussion topic i've noticed, and since i'm a bit of a cynical news watcher with a lot on my mind most of the time, i thought i'd have my two cents, or rather two pence..... Normally, i like my 50p for reviewing products, but i think i can do without that for once :) I remember being back at schools many years ago, and the teacher telling us about Israel, and saying that as the Jews were promised the holy land thousands of years ago, roughly 50 years ago (this was at the time of my teacher telling me this of course) the Americans helped the Jews to get a homeland, by giving them this land. ...  Read the complete review

What a topic to review to review eh?....and not an easy one to answer either. Many people a grand sight better than me have tried and failed to find a peace solution in Palestine/Israel and death and destruction continues on both sides. The most recent escalation of this was seen in Gaza only a few months ago, but remains just one sad, unfortunate episode of violence in a long history of violence. I feel the need to speak up for Israel and in view of the record number of antisemtic attacks in the first three months of 2009 around the globe, i think its important that whilst we watch the upsetting pictures of Palestinian suffering on our television screens, we ...  Read the complete review

When Russia rolled into Georgia to defend its citizens, the world was outraged. It was condemned by the US and her allies. However, there has been evidence to show that Georgian forces were indeed attacking civilians, which therefore would justify Russia's actions. So are Russians the aggressors we like to think, or the liberating force. They have since withdrawn. (albeit a few left). The US has steam rolled into Afghanistan, and Iraq using all of its miltary might, even using weapons of a questionable nature. Even though there was no clear UN mandate or unaminous support. An through "collateral" damage have Killed 1,000's of women, children, and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Israel has WMD so let's attack Palestine! (2165 words)

What a crazy world we live in. Blair and Bush found reason to obliterate Iraq on the premise that Saddam Hussein 'may' have rockets full of mustard gas that 'could' be within 45 minutes range of Britain (which turned out to be English pensioners and drug dealers living in Cyprus) yet we don't attack WMD 'tooled up' Israel for actually firing those missiles into an incredibly built up area (be it with phosphorus and uranium) and leaving Gaza looking like a jigsaw puzzle tipped out of the box. Then everyone turned against Israel for defending themselves from the very same Iraqi style rocket threat coming from Palestine? But if Israel didn't do something soon then there may ...  Read the complete review

I sympathise with both sides in the argument, two groups of people who for a while lived contented and peaceful, have over a long period of time come to arms to protect what they believe is theirs. There are strong claims on both sides, but as it seems is the norm these days a once happy marriage breaks up with violence. I'm no politician or historian; I'm a human being as are the poor people caught up in this violent conflict. I have no doubt both sides have thought about their position and come to the unfortunate conclusion that war is the answer, but I do believe that they need to try harder with dialog. Many will want peace, and many militants will try their utmost ...  Read the complete review
