It was fate that i stumbled upon the excellent review of The Jon Gaunt Show on Talk Sport by Thedevilinme which i highly recommend you read, whilst listening to the man himself... These two factors combined with the moon being in conjunction with Venus meant only one thing.... a review, not a six page essay this time, you'll be pleased to read but a review nonetheless.

Ive been listening to 'Gaunty' as he calls himself for a good while. working from home alot i like to have the radio on. I find im too old for Radio 1, too young for Radio 2 and too much a sports fan not to listen to either talksport or radio 5 live. I stumbled across Gaunty in his LBC days and immediately took a liking to his 'common man' approach. When he made the move over to Talksport, my choice of radio selection from 10 - 1 became a lot easier.

The premise of the show for those who have not heard him is that he invites callers to discuss current issues and basically what he wants, usually provoked by an article in The Daily Mail. There can be no doubt that Gaunty speaks his mind.... five times up to face charges from the UK Broadcasting Standards Commission and thats why i like to listen.

His audience is unashamedly the white van man, and thats exactly how he speaks and who he speaks to. Gaunty wears his working class as a badge, often unecessarily berating and talking over those who are not. There is none of the politial correctness of the BBC radio stations and in an age of polical correctness it can be wholly refreshing at times.

I have a bit of a love hate relationship with him...he can be like The Daily Mail on Air - scaremungering in a 'Ayslum Seekers Will Rape your children and eat the carp from your pond' type of way. and he can subscribe a bit too much to the 'hang em all' brigade, often indulging too much into his own little world, but then again thats what he is paid handsomely to do and recieves the listener ratings to back it up.

Overall i find Gaunty to be an honest, outspoken shock jock type of radio presenter. He can bigoted, downright stupid, aggressive and glaringly wrong on many occassions but, after all is said and done, he has the courage of his convictions, he is not afraid to voice his opinion and sometimes, just sometimes he talks some plain and simple sense...an oasis in the polictally correct world we live in. Give him a go...a pinch of salt sometimes helps, but guaranteed to enteratain.

The Jon Gaunt Show - Talksport 1089am. 10am to 1pm.

I hate to admit it but I read his column in 'The Sun' and find he's in tune with me on most things.

I think John Gaunt is great to listen to, but unfortunately he's one of those DJ's who can say a blatantly incorrect thing and will never admit to his mistakes.
