Advantages: This works (experiance)

Disadvantages: Some believe that for an opinion to be good it must be in excess of 500 words - madness

If you want to write a good opinion it must be interesting, none of us want to read opinions that ramble on without end. It should be short and to the point. A little humour is not a bad thing but it should not be offensive or detract from the point of the opinion. If the opinion is more than 100 words the reader is going to totally lose interest and give up on you after reading a couple. Make your point, back it up if possible and don’t sit on the fence, the whole point of writing an opinion is to express your views ie to make a slightly forceful point. Include experience and/or truth to give your opinions value – good luck.

I agree that really long ones are so boring, especially when they do not include any humour. Some are more than 2 foot long!!
I also agree with Vhart. It depends on what you are talking bout. If I do opinions on web stuff, they are longer because not everyone has or knows about making them.

Definitely agree that good opinions certainly don't have to be long, but I think it really depends on what you're talking about. I like a bit background if it is something I know nothing about, but not necessarily a list of hotels to stay in if I'm visiting a particular city! Conversely, I've written some longer opinions and some shorter ones, and the longer ones definitely tend to get higher ratings (whether I, personally, think they are better or not).
