Disadvantages: you might get shot with your own gun

You crazy brits have been going overboard with this whole cloning thing. I mean it is one thing to clone a few sheep but to read that you have a thriving arms business...well that is just sick. And why not legs or other body parts. Are arms easier to make?

Seriously, well sort of...The UK like America has a significant part of thier economy based on the defense industry. It would be easy to criticize this profit from weapons but you would only see half of the picture. Whether you like it or not the free world's security is dependent upon our ability to stay ahead of those who would see us all destroyed. The amount of research neccesary to stay ahead is very expensive. So we allow the defense industry to sell off obsolete hardware to fund the new hardware. In theory this serves many purposes. It is also difficult for aggressors to organize against us if they are contstantly fighting each other. Not to mention the data collected from the performance of all of this equipment in all the little civil wars.

It may seem cruel, shameless or possibly even evil...but without it you would be under attack, moreso than what we have recently observed. Without a global shift in human nature this business will have to continue like it or not.

Interesting enough I had a roomate at the university. His father owned that largest privately held arms dealership in the US. While studying one night our roomate called us into the living room to see his father on television. It seems he was being featured on 60 minutes on a segment called "merchants of death". Now my roomate "skip" (obviously I changed his name because he now owns the company and although he is still a friend I woulnt want to piss him off). Anyway skip kept a small arsenal in our flat. In his closet he had several assualt rifles, hand guns and even a case of grenades. I have to admit throwing grenades in an open field is alot of fun and I cant even begin to tell you about
the joy of firing off a belt of ammo with an automatic M16 on a tripod. You can really mow down a row of corn in no time.

The very scary and interesting thing about skip was he always knew what little country was going to start some trouble about 6 months before the trouble started. He would say to us "keep an eye on somalia" or "look out for indondesia" and within 6 months BAM! there was shit going on. How did he know? Well it was easy...Where ever his dad cut a really big deal there would be trouble very soon. In fact you could look at his frequent flyer account and track the insurrections. Skip himself in the summers would go on buying trips with his dad to Russia and China. The russians are selling off their old arms really cheap...they need the money. Most of the stuff they get from russia is junk but they make good money selling it through catelogs to red necks, and gangs. And the chineese evidently can knock off anything alot cheaper.

Skip even has a munitions factory in mexico and on every single shell his personal initials are stamped. I asked him one day how he felt about the number of people who have probably been killed by a bullet with his initials on it. He said it was really cool. But what do you expect from a guy who can go home and crank up his own tank to take a drive around the farm. Now the tank cant fire its gun. Evidently anyone can buy a surplus tank but the firing pin has to be removed. How hard would it be to put that back. It was fun to drive though. He really wants to get his hands on a submarine so we can go party in the islands....hey baby you want to ride on my sub?

Another interesting thing to note: when we were in college his family were strong republicans, always attending functions, giving money etc. But when Clinton took washington they became big democratic supporters...so they make sure there trade continues uninterrupted by policy.

Lets just say that skip, a guy my age
who barely graduated from college with a C average in history is now running the largest privately held arms dealership in the US and I am glad he is my friend. It is nice to know if I ever want to invade a small island country I have the resources to do it. Come to think of it Anguilla could use a new government. $4 for a cola!

Now arms trade in general was well in control until the Clinton administration decided to allow the sell of some modern technology. Now we have to do some fast footwork on the missle defense shield now that China has the means to aim their missles with satellite guided accuracy. And all of that for campaign contributions!

I remember my first year at the university I would get the cuban newspaper just for fun. Just to read the crap they would say about the US. One day a read an article about how the cia was selling arms to Iran to get money to fund the contra freedom fighters. What a joke right. Well it turned out to be true. So it made me think about the other crazy articles I had read in the cuban paper "la gramma" especially the one about how the CIA was kidnapping brazillian children off of the street to harvest thier organs to sell on the blackmarket to furhter fund insurrections in central america. Now I have to wonder about the validity of that article. I mean were we really selling arms for arms? Well at least with the advances in cloning we can stop kidnapping brazillian children.

So as long as people are continuing to be disfigured in farming accidents there will always be a need for arms dealers, and leg dealers and so on.

Well written but should this not be under creative writing. As I have read more truth in the fiction department of a book store

Just because it is natural for things to happen, doesn't make them right.

Which of my viewpoints is absurd kfingleton? Unfortunately it is in our nature! place young kids in a room alone with a single toy and wait and see how long it takes for a fight to break out over who gets to play with the toy. And in every instance the physically dominant child will get the toy. I am not suggesting that this is ideal but it IS reality. We shouldnt try to take everyone elses toys but we should be able to protect ours. I say teach your children to be better than us but make sure they have a future and they understand what it means to protect the future for their children responsibly. And if you think we should all share and place nice...I agree...but just ask the american indians about sharing, ask the south africans ( first black and now ask the white farmers ), ask the Isrealis, the palestinians, ask the average cuban citizen about sharing. And if you still want to share and play nice...thats great...email me your address so I can come over and pick up some of your furniture because I could use some nice furniture, oh and a big screen TV.
