Advantages: Exciting race

Disadvantages: The spectre of racism

On November 4th America is expected to throw up the spinnaker on voting day and go in a new and refreshing direction as the crisp Atlantic autumnal westerly become Obama`s winds of change, with the emphasis on change. The probable president in Hillary Clinton was forced to step down from the battle with McCain and now the dashing black senator is heading for the Whitehouse as America offloads its race guilt and votes him in. There's no one out their brave enough to question his coronation in fear of being called a bigot. He has no policies, no experience and no right, but he talks a good fight like Ali and knows he will win because of the race card he doesn't need to play. I want him to win because America can't go any further down the Republican road of war and oil.

He has a ten point lead in the opinion polls and it looks like that nasal voiced lnut (allegedly) Sarah Palin has finished old man (true) McCain off with her inexperience and darn right scary behavior. The thought of having a VP who thinks the Earth is just 5000 years old and having her finger on the button when McCain has his heart attack is terrifying. She is like one of the worst of one of those ghastly beauty pageant contestants but not particularly in favor of 'world peace'... !

It seemed to be in the bag for McCain back in the summer when Palin turned up with her machine gun ready to shoot down Obama, just in case the racist redneck vote for the Republicans didn't get him. But it's all change now after her repeated gaffs that do indeed reinforce the feeling that she only got the VP job because she was the prettiest female down the list to counter Obamas decision to dump on Hillary and so pick up those votes. There's no doubt that the Democrats call to go with Barak over Clinton was a big decision as angry menopausal women even threatened to change their political allegiance to show support to the female candidate. If you ever wanted to see the mad logic of women then that's an example of.

Race was always the big issue in this election once the candidates put their names forward. The question now is Obama voters more racists than the voters who only vote white, some opinion polls showing 95% of blacks will vote for Barak in November, presumably because of his skin color just as much as his perfunctory message of "Hope". Other polls show 70% of whites are supporting the white candidate for similar reasons. Which ever way you look at this intriguing race its all about color and gender not policies and solutions, especially for the financial crisis. In fact with three weeks to go Obama hasn't come up with many polices at all. I'm sure he has kept his momentum mainly due to record high voter registration in the black community and the feeling with in white liberals that the blacks deserve a chance and if he messes up at least we can say I told you so. Only this week he has taken time out of the campaign to be with his sick white grandmother, coincidentally a demograohic that just arent voting for him, and so cynics say may do so now.
The registration of black voters is the critical thing here for the Democrats though and they have been very successful in that campaign, an extra 2.0 million on the electoral role this election. Its not surprising black America is going for him big time and it was the allegeded blocking of the black vote in Florida that denied Al Gore his election victory.

In the old days America's 30 million blacks of working age didn't all have the right-or will-to vote. One-in-seven are barred because they have criminal convictions (see footnote 2). For example over half of the black men of voting age in Alabama are unable to vote because they have accrued a criminal conviction in their life time and so exempt. It's a similar high number in Latino communities. This percentage is high across Middle-America because a surprisingly trivial offence can ban you from the electoral role. In Texas you cant vote for two years after your sentance or bail has expired. But the Democrats are rather too desperate to register blacks it seems, controversy currently raging over a left wing pressure group called 'ACORN', (seefootnote one) the 'Association of Community Organizations for Reform Act', trying to get as many new voters register as possible before the deadline. The Obama campaign is helping fund the group to the tune of $700,000 and it claims to have signed up 1.2 million people across 18 states. But its being seriously questioned by McCain's people after the Republicans discovered the ACORN people tried to register a voter called 'Mickey Mouse'. They also found they were enrolling a 19-year-old from Ohio to vote 73 times. One list of names surrendered by 'ACORN' in Las Vegas even lists the starting line of the Dallas Cowboys!

'We all know Mickey votes for us', scorned one prominent Republican at this ridiculous situation. But the republicans are also up to know good, scared witless by this black serge of new voters that have a 90% chance of voting for the Democrats, and have been deliberately delaying those registrations, a tactic that helped Bush win tight states in 2000, including Florida.

-The Republicans-

McCain has made no secret of his stance on Iraq and reckons America needs to be there for the next 100 years. American politics are tied into the 'Industrial Military Complex' and the Republicans more than the Democrats rely on money from the arms and oil companies that benefit from those invasions to fund their campaigns now that smoking cash from 'big tobacco' is scarcer. Every state in the union makes something for the arms industries and only huge subsidies and contracts allow that to happen. The Stealth bomber deliberately has a piece of it made in every state to keep all the senators onside. Because all the states rely on the military for jobs and money then war is beneficial to all. This is why America has invaded or made an incursion in at least one country every year since World War 2 on average. There are still 150,000 American troops in Western Europe, as much as Iraq...

Its pretty obvious America are not in a hurry to pull out of Iraq and are currently building 15 bases there. They are there to control and exploit the oil situation and its noticeable how quickly Obama softened his feelings on a pull out as the election neared. I do think Obamas anti-war stance is only to pick up votes. Make no mistake, if he had promised to pull out the troops he would have been taken out by a bullet or car bomb by now. Kennedy also defied the war machine by threatening to leave Vietnam and we all know what happened to him. Americas business is war and enforcing privatizations of those countries infrastructure with American big business and they won't be changing that model soon. The reason they are a superpower is because they have a military presence on pretty much every country on the planet. And the ones they haven't they have a nuke pointing at them.

-The Democrats-

Obamas policies will be interesting as many of his domestic problems will come from the ethnic communities. Many homicides and serious drug related crime happens in Black and Hispanic areas and the America Latin Community seem unwilling to vote for a black candidate. They talk about white racism in America but this divide is just as bad if not worse. Surprisingly, 90% of Hispanics polled said they wouldnt vote for Barak.
Obama is going to have to introduce policies that hurt black communities to improve them and that could affect his reelection if he wins next month. These problems are huge and we saw with Hurricane Katrina how black America is so dependant on the state in some of the poorer areas. Barak is going to have to cut that dependency and has already hinted at that with some stinging comments to the black community. I don't think those comment s were made to appease white voters I think they were made from the point of view of a hardcore economists/lawyer that he was trained at in Chicago University, the home of divisive Milton Friedman economics that has shaped the world under Americas right wing policy forums. And if you think another Iraq is off the agenda with Barak then think again.

-Going negative-

Anyone who watches the West Wing knows all about going negative. This is when they hurl insults at each other as the vote nears, and it looks like this race is going to get dirty, with the emphasis on the word 'race'. McCain put the words 'terrorism', the 'Pentagon' and 'anti American' in the same sentence with a direct accusation against Obama. McCain and the political media made it clear it referred to some ancient friendship/acquaintance with some burnt out hippy radical terrorists called Richard Eyre's from the 60s acid haze but the subtle insinuation was clear-911 and Baraks tenuous Muslim family roots. Obama sounds like Osama and Barak sounds like Iraq. Some Americans are idiots and will make that connection. They did it before remember over WMD. McCain apologized but knew the link would be made. A similar tactic was a tried in the summer when the New York intelligencia caricature's in Newsweek Magazine showed Obama dressed as Osama Bin Laden and his wife in a Burkha. It may have been a joke but it wasn't to those impressionable idiots, again sublimely linking Barak to 911. I think that really sucks, considering the persecution blacks have had in America.

-Conclusions-

I think Obama will win and Palin was the turning point, showing Republican desperation. Hillary can swing the vote with her tears but not McCain, sure to suffer one of the worst defeats ever in a US election. Not even a timely terror attack or rigged election can save the Republicans this time...

The last word should be left to black congressman Charlie Rangle, 77, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and a decorated Korean War veteran, who was recently asked what he thought about the current president on issues of race relations in the election. He replied:' Well, I really think he shatters the myth of white supremacy once and for all"...

You have to watch the Saturday Night Live send ups of Palin, they are hilarious and the woman who does her is the spitting image.
