Advantages: peace

Disadvantages: hatred

My life has changed and so has that of many others. I remember that moment very clearly, I was watching neighbours on television and there was a news flash. The date was 9 / 11.

Before that day I lived in a multi cultural country, where most people had multi cultural friends, where there was little hatred of other races, religions and cultures. I looked forward to sending my chidren to school, I didn't really care too much about world politics, i thought that it didn't affect me too much.

Today, I am afraid. Afraid, not of THE TERRORISTS. There have always been terrorists in this world. We don't have to go very far to find them, we have some in our own back yard, the IRA.

There always have been, and most probably will be terrorists in the world. I don't agree with them but I understand what shapes terrorists, in most cases it is those leaders who have taken away their rights.

But, that is not what I am afraid of. What frightens me is the developing hatred. This hatred between religions, races and cultures, is growing day by day and it is the media who is developing this hatred. BUT, who controls the media? why are these people developing hatred amongst the people of this world, WHY?

I am afraid of sending my children to school because I don't want them to HATE. I am afraid of letting them watch the news, because I feel that it is laying down grounds to HATE.

I don't think that any country has the right to control another, every country should review its international policies, what is right for one country is also right for another.

Any one who harbours terrorists is WRONG. But it seems that what our governments mean is anyone who harbours ARAB or muslim terrorists is wrong. It is ok for the US to supply arms to the IRA.

The recent bomb blast in Saudi, 3 bombs killed around 30 / 40 people, what about the millions of bombs that were dropped on Iraq? To me, the bombs
in Saudi say that another country may be invaded soon.

To end with, my message is DON'T HATE, don't teach your children to hate, don't believe everything the media says. You all are intelligent humans with every right to an opinion, don't be a passive reciver of the media. An example, it was funny how George Galloway, a person against the war in Iraq. Its strange how a journalist found documents in a building that had been bombed, relating him to a business deal with Saddam.

But...please try and rebuild the world we lived in, where there wasn't this much hatred.

You have to wonder why certain parts of the media are so dead set on whipping up hatred. It's a scary world out there, and the powers that be seem intent on making it worse.

A little bit of a rant then summed up in the last paragraph leads to a well written opinion. It is of course the paradoxical nature on freedom that causes the problem. One mans freedom is another mans purgatory. Hatred will only be diminished as we get to know and understand each others belief systems. It is fear of the unknown that stops us doing so.

Good op Marc Feld
