Advantages: We need a variety of weather

Disadvantages: Has mankind changed earths weather due to misuse of earths resourses?

Wether the weather be hot ,
Or whether the weather be not.
We’ll weather the weather what ever the weather.
Whether we like it or not.


We talk about the weather a lot in our household it is a very important part of our (or at least my husbands) life.
Why do I hear? It’s because .Hubby is a recorder of butterflies and butterflies like the sun. He goes out most no every weekend walking his transects and recording what butterflies he sees. These records are kept nationally for butterfly conservation and the biological national centre at Huntingdon.
These records are very important. They help indicate if land use and methods of farming are affecting the population of butterflies. These last few years has seen a definite change in some butterflies flight times. They are getting earlier also butterflies that were never recorded fly further north now. This is a good indicator of temperature change.
Surveys and transects can only be walked and butterflies seen if the weather is warm and sunny most butterflies only fly at13 c and over.
So hubby gets quite upset if he can not get out and do the surveying he is responsible for if the weather is bad at weekends, after work is too late in the day.

Weather is certainly a big part of our lives.
It is important to me too as I do not like gardening in the rain but I need the rain to help my plants grow .the need the sun and warmth too.
I like looking at wild flowers and the weather has an impact on them too, in the last few years wild flowers have been blooming earlier. This year at Chelsea a lot of gardeners had problems with flowers peaking too early.
So you could say weather and its impact is an important concern in my household.

Also although I did not manage to get tickets to Glastonbury this year. (Unless I manage Sunday morning). Have been many times and the weather does make a difference there. It’s a site that gets very muddy quickly if it rains and I have been many year in the rain. Boots stuck in mud up to my knees, mud fights, not been able to walk far. Soaking wet right through all weekend, cold and tired. Water going in one side of tent out the other like sleeping on a water bed. I remember once the wind blew our tent down too. However it’s not like that every year. Well not quite.

There another reason why weather is important to me. I work with kids and the weather certainly affects their moods. Wild on a windy day and if its raining and they can not go out to play they go quite ape. Sun and heat is good as they get soporific and are better behaved.
Yes the weather effects all out moods everyone is happier when it’s sunny.
There is much folklore about the weather. We all know the one about the cows, when they are lying down in the fields it is going to rain. Nature really is a good indicator of the weather

Oh well that’s enough about the weather .


To talk of the weather is nothing but folly;
When it rains on the hill, it suns in the valley.
