Advantages: everyone happy

Disadvantages: impossible dream

OK, lets set the world to rights. A basic assumption to begin - money makes the world go round. I don't think anyone can disagree. Why do we work? So we can earn money to buy the things we want and to pay for the things we need. Even if you yourself deplore capitalism, you are still forced to try and get money because you can guarantee whoever supplies you electricity/sells you food, doesn't feel the same way, and basically wants to get their greedy little hands on as much off the stuff as possible.

Now I have no problem with people wanting to make loads of money so they can buy that big house they've always wanted with the swimming pool and built in cinema. But where does most if not all the money going around in the world eventually go? It doesn't go to people who actually get some pleasure out of it. No. It goes into a bank somewhere in the name of some huge multi national mega conglomerate and adds a few zeros onto some reports. That's it. People all over the world, including me and undoubtly you, work our socks off for this. This reason you can't drive the car you want? Some shareholder wants to see a 7 instead of a 3 in some report. Profit. Thinks of it as the food chain. In the food chain the creatures at the bottom get eaten by successive creatures above them until you get to the top, where whoever is there cannot be eaten because there's nothing above. Same with money. The normal consumers and workers are at the bottom and the money gradually goes upward, through bigger and bigger companies until it reaches these multinationals, and has no where else to go. They can't spend it all because the don't buy things. They already own whatever they need. So it gets stuffed away where ever these companies keep their money, and stays there.

Now, there is only a finite amount of money in the world, otherwise it wouldn't have any value. So while this huge pile of cash is sat in these banks doing nothing, people
somewhere are without, and therefore cannot afford what they would like to make their lives better.

So my really simple and impossible to implement idea is to abandon profit. Sure, let companies make money, but this should all go back in research etc so products still evolve. Everyone would still work because if they didn't no one else would. Why should you work for nothing if no one else is willing to do the same? Everyone would be happy because they would be more money to spread around and people would do things for others because they know some one will do the same for them.

Rather a simplistic view of the world I know and unlikely to get a Nobel prize for economics, but hey, we can dream can't we?

Whoa, slow down nasty dyslexic man! The OP was not meant to be an essay to revolutionize world ecomomics, rather a silly idea I thought I'd share. As for suspecting I'm a fifth form sociology student, wrong again!
