Advantages: They make me happy
Disadvantages: none
I'd like to think I don't give too much away about myself through my reviews. I am, however, aware that's a lie. But what the hell, lets go for it. Here are some things that, in no particular order, make your friendly nieghbourhood Ryan, Happy.
1. Alanis Morissette
Most people know her as a depressive angry singer. Those people haven't listened to her properly. She's a fantastic musician with an amazing range. Incredibly talented and funny, the woman just makes me happy. Watching her whine melodramatically about her lady lumps in an incredibly sarcastic send up of that black eyed peas song can cheer me up instantly. I've listend to her since she came out with her world famous "jagged little pill" in '95 and haven't looked back since. Apart from buying the Pre-JLP albums.
2. Songwriting / guitar playing
Nothing like sitting down and strumming out all your frustraions on a guitar. I prefer acoustic mainly because I'm not all too fantastic with electric. Screaming and howling along to it is also quite fun. My brother taught me how to play guitar and I've always liked to sing and write so the whole process relaxes me a lot. More recently my younger brother (who is great on the electric) and I have started writing songs together and I just love it.
3. Art
Another release of mine is art. Mostly random stuff since I just don't have the patience to draw properly any more. Currently I'm working on a "stain glass" rose painting painted entirley with Nail Polish. I can totally loose myself in my art. I quite like when I sell a piece too.
4. Tattoos
I. Love. Tattoos. I have about 35 so far and in roughly ten hours i have another five hour session. My tattoos are incredibly random and people tend to stop me in the street to ask about them (which I find fascinating, perfect strangers just grab my arm and start twisting it round to get a look at them) I love the sound of the gun too (wierd I know but I could easily fall asleep to it)
5. Piercings
I don't have near as many piercings as I do tattoos, but I love them all the same. I've got my lip, eyebrow and helix (top of my ear) and I would feel naked without them. They also opened me up to the world a little. They encouraged me to join a community online that is all about body mods and because of that I've met a lot of amazing people and made some great friends. My ex is one of them, another two I'm going to be visiting in atlanta next year.
6. Making Other People Happy
Best feeling in the world is when you make someone else happy. As much as I hate the world, I would just prefer everyone to be happy and if I can do that, even better. I'm constantly trying to be funny (as you might have gotten from some of the less serious reviews) as its just nice to see someone smile and know you done that.
7. Coming home to find your tea has been cooked and the place cleaned.
I live with one flat mate. I do all the cooking, the cleaning tends to get left till when it needs done (we are untidy, not unclean) so on the odd occasion where my flatmates sister visits, she cooks us a big roast dinner and my flat mate tidies and I don't have to do anything. It makes me realise just how great mothers and fathers days are for people!
8. My friends
Annoying a lot of the time, but most of the time I really enjoy the company of others. I love being a bit of a hermit at times too, however, when I'm not being a moody so and so, my friends help me have a really great time. They understand me and are just as random as I am. They aren't afraid to be who they want to be and do what they want. Tomorrow night, for example, we are all going out on the town. In our PJ's. Why? Why not??
9. Talking Crap Till 4 in the morning
Those rare nights when you stay up chatting with a friend, usually on the sofa with a duvet and snacks, about anything and everything, serious, happy, insane, ANYTHING till stupid O'clock. Those nights rock my socks off.
10. Waking up to a kiss
The best way to start the day is with a kiss from that special someone. Being single that happens..oh...never... though I HAVE been there and it was amazing when I had it. I will be sending out my resume to all the gays in my city tomorrow after the tattoo session.
So there you have it, a few things that make me happy. Writing this review made me quite smiley too! In the meantime, I must go sleep as I don't think my tattooist will appreciate a snoozing homo in his chair tomorrow!
Summary: A random insight into how to make me smile.
