Advantages: Things I love
Disadvantages: Things I hate at the bottom
This is a great topic to write about, as we all spend a lot of time fixing mistakes that we make, apologising for things we've done wrong, solving problems that arise in our lives. Unfortunately, this all too often leaves little time to enjoy life and appreciate the things that make us happy.
Family:
Family is my biggest priority. Having parents who have a combined brother and sister count of 13 means that there is a big focus on family. I spend a lot of time with them, so much so that friends have taken a backseat as I've gotten older. My brothers and sisters, and their kids are extremely important to me. My youngest sister coming through early difficulties with dyslexia, teenage pregnancy, raising a kid on her own etc has left me extremely proud as she is now a hard working proud and kind woman who works in a job that helps other people in a similar situation to herself.
Friends:
If you turned up at my house for an evening, and all my friends were present, you'd be forgiven for thinking that you'd just joined Frankensteins party at the nuthouse. They are a mad lot. Seriously mad. But many have been long term friends who I could trust with my life. The term best friend is banded around too easily, but my closest friends have been with me through my entire adult life, so really do deserve that term. They also deserve an award for putting up with me.
Cooking:
I'm becoming a dab hand in the kitchen of late, and have discovered that I enjoy cooking Indian food the most. I'm also addicted to the show Come Dine With Me. I have very little interest in the point scoring drama that takes place around the table, but some of the little recipe's you discover on it are excellent.
Saturday Nights:
Many Saturday nights involve all of the above, plus a few bottles of wine. I'm loving a nice bottle of rose wine or a bottle of pino grigio at the moment, but also enjoy the ocassional beer. We also enjoy party games which might involve everybody pulling a piece of string through their pants and out their legs as a girl vs boy game. Other times, we might just have a CD on in the background, or the karaoke machine on. But we try to be respectful to neighbours. lol.
Sundays:
You cant beat a sunday. No work, and the obligitary day of rest. My partner usually drags me off showhoming (as he calls it), as its part of his job. I endure it because afterwards we have a nice drive and then some lunch somewhere. Ocassionally though, I put my foot down, get some housechores done, and then stick a dvd on in the afternoon. All of the above can make for the perfect sunday.
White Water Rafting:
The first time I did this, I was terrified. It was wild. I was thrown out of the raft, and badly needed the toilet as a result. Much to the amusement of my fellow rafters, I was not only unable to get back into the raft, but then had to pause to do the duty. Since then, though, I've had a bit more decorum, stayed in the raft and kept my duty for the appropriate place. The raft racing through the rapids is an amazing experience, and I could do this again and again.
Gorge Walking:
A slightly less thrilling water sport (dont worry, water sports are purely for outdoor thrills for me). I went gorge walking with ten friends as a birthday day out for one. At first, I was slighly bored, but the rapport soon built between all of us. And there was a mudslide halfway down which dropped into an 8ft deep bath which provided much surprising entertainment for us all.
Walking:
I have only recently taken up walking and jogging as an attempt to shed some of the extra 3 stone that I am carrying. It wasn't easy to get into it in the first instance. But a few jaunts, and the presence of my ipod, soon saw me taking to it. My first official run was last June which helped me shed nearly 2 stone. Unfortunately, the winter months in Glasgow saw the old lazy me return, and I put about a stone and a half back on. I'm struggling to get back into the walking, but I've no doubt that one of those increasingly pleasant evenings will provide the perfect opportunity.
My Flat:
This is a work in progress. I have a 3 bedroom flat in Glasgow, which needs a complete overhaul. My partner has all the idea's really, and expects me to see them through. With simpler DIY jobs like fitting blinds or painting, I am good. Dont ask me to plaster the bathroom though, the walls will crumble around you. I dont go completely for the ikea look, although I find that you can mix and match certain elements with more classic furniture to make it unique. My partner wants the ikea showroom in our house, again I'm putting my foot down.
Music:
I have quite an eclectic taste in music. One minute, I'll be listening to Sam Cooke, then I'll change to The Sex Pistols, then I'll fancy sticking on the latest Kylie concert on DVD. My main love in music is pop, and Kylie is probably my favourite artist. God knows why I've followed her from childhood til now, maybe its her continued growth. Fortunately, I enjoy many other artists, so can take a break from her when I become bored.
DVDs:
My DVD collection is ever-growing, and I should probably consider sticking some on ebay to make room in my flat. I used to love horror films, but as I've got older I've found them scarier than I did when I was seventeen. I also love action and sci-fi, but ocassionally enjoy chick flicks. Sad I know. At the moment, I'm watching The NET series 1, from a few years ago, as well as trying to keep up with The 4400 and Heroes.
Just to keep it balanced though, here's a list of my pet hates:
Snakes (Terrified of them. Cant even seem them in a picture)
Bigotry
Ignorance
Rude people
Spaghetti Hoops
Microwavable food
Cleaning windows
Noisy building sites (lol - I konw these are essential)
Colleagues who send pictures of themselves naked whilst on holiday (this really happened - feel free to ask)
Summary: If I can take a moment to talk about myself, I'm sure you'll die of boredom.
