Advantages: Cheers me up!
Disadvantages: Might not make everyone happy.
I am one of those people who is easily upset... However, I'm also easy to cheer up as well, which is fortunate!
On a bad day I often just want to curl up in bed and not come out for a few hours, but I refrain from that and try and do more productive things which can cheer me up!
*Watch a good movie*
This can be anything I truly enjoy. Depending on why I'm in a bad mood, sometimes a film such as The Notebook makes me feel better by making me cry my eyes out. Sometimes a happy film like Hairpsray, or a film I love like The Nightmare Before Christmas, can cheer me up by singing along to the songs... I suppose it depends on why I'm upset!
*Have a rant*
Some of my friends experience my ranting more than others. If something is really bothering me, I'll have a nice chat with someone, or a big long complaining ramble about things until I've said all I need to say and I've got everything out of my system. I used to do this quite a lot, but I've tried to lessen my rambling now, because it's surely not good for the people around me to listen to my issues!
*See some friends*
Spending time with my friends, not particularly doing very much always makes me smile. Whether its just sitting down watching a film, having a meal, or a generally good chat, friend-time is always good. I wouldn't know what to do without my friends, so I'm grateful for them and the time I can spend with them.
*Go for a walk*
I am genuinely one of those people that goes for a walk if I'm upset or stressed. There's a park near me which I go to when I need to think, and it always destresses me, or at least gives me time to think if there's something specific bothering me. Walking while listening to music and blocking out the rest of the world always helps. :)
*SHOP*
NOT A GOOD OPTION. I spend more money when I need cheering up than any other time. I'll buy things for the sake of it, or because I think it might cheer me up, even if it doesn't. Especially underwear, shoes and dresses. It's terrible! It genuinely does make me feel better sometimes though, if I find an outfit which makes me feel good about myself. Also, internet shopping. A terrible, terrible thing, because I never think about what I'm buying! Its there, I can order it, so I do!
*Exercise*
I haven't done this in a long time, but exercise always makes me feel good. I used to go to the gym every weekend and for some reason, I stopped. However I mean to start again, and I genuinely think it helps me feel better. Need to start doing this again asap!
*Go to a gig*
Gigs always make me happy! Singing along to my favourite bands and artists, jumping around the music... I love it. I always come out of a gig feeling a thousand times better than when I went in, and it makes me feel alive! That sounds so stupid I know, but I love it. If I had more money, and wasn't getting ready for the proper student life, I would go to a lot more gigs than I do now. I get huge adrenaline rushes, I love it!
*Performing*
I absolutely love performing. I used to do amateur dramatics, and I'm considering going back again soon, because I miss the performing. I do drama for A-Level and I'm doing Drama and English at uni, so I'm going to continue being able to perform for the next few years. I always come away from performances feeling happy and full of life. I get so excited when it comes up to performances, and get the huge adrenaline rush before and during every one of them. Dancing, singing (as bad as I am) and Acting, I love it all :)
*Read a good book*
Reading always helps me relax. I love books which make me think, or which make me feel something. One of my favourite books is My Sister's Keeper, which does both of these. I've read this so many times and I never get sick of it. Something which captures my imagination always makes me feel better. :)
*Drive*
The amount of times I've been in a bad mood and I've had a driving lesson which has made me concentrate on that, rather than anything else, and I've come away feeling better... As if I'm in control of something. When I'm upset, I like to find a way to get back in control of my feelings... Driving is one of the more healthier ways of doing this. I can't wait until I pass and can just leave my house whenever I'm feeling stressed and try and calm down by having a nice drive...
So those are just a few of the things which make me happy. I know each has their own things which make them smile and feel good about themselves. This is mine! :)
Summary: My list of happy things :)
