Advantages: no running around like a headless chicken
Disadvantages: none
Last Christmas, I left my Christmas shopping very late, for a change. Usually I do it a in the few weeks running up to Christmas. My excuse was that I was just not feeling in a Christmassy mood. Did I regret it? Yes. It’s not just the unbelievable crowds in the shops that put me off shopping at Christmas. But, a lot of shops have very limited stock closer to Christmas. For example, last year when I visited the Disney shop, I could not believe how little they had in there. I went in to buy some things I had seen in there before, and I came out empty handed. If you do your Christmas shopping at the last minute, it’s also very difficult to be imaginative, when you are just trying your best to find anything that will do. It’s likely your presents will be appreciated less, if less thought has gone into them. So, I would recommend that to avoid the hassle of Christmas shopping, do your Christmas shopping earlier. I haven’t gone out especially to buy Christmas presents, I just keep an eye out for them, and it’s amazing what you can find. This is also a good way of saving money, as you are more likely to pick up things at sale prices. I have bought a few Christmas presents off online auctions, which I wouldn’t have been able to do, if I had bought them at the last minute. If you think that buying all your presents early will mean that it doesn’t feel very Christmassy. Don’t worry, I’m sure there will be some things you still need to buy. Even though I have bought a lot of presents, I have not yet wrapped any. I’m leaving that closer to Christmas, as I will want to have another look at everything, to remind myself of what I bought. I also prefer to wrap them closer to Christmas, it’s part of the fun.

- 20/11/00 I haven't done any Christmas shopping this year - I don't have any room to store presents in my tiny flat! I have to do it all last minute (aggghhhhh!) |
