Advantages: It pays, It helps other people
Disadvantages: Its not flawless
This q&a challenge can help newbies find out what dooyoo is about and, if many established members participate, what the community is like and will hopefully convince them to stay and become active. to be sure, everything has been said before, but has it had any impact? only for a limited time until the opinion disappeared from the front page. by presenting the tips on helping new members in the form of a questionnaire which can be done by several members the impact can perhaps be prolonged. several members, better: many members, to show that many roads lead to dooyoo. q: when did you join dooyoo? a: One dismally dull afternoon in April last year. I've since accumulated a mass of friends, reads, crowns and ops. ________________________________ q: how did you discover dooyoo? a:I was searching for reviews on a PC Game. I didn't find it, but I did find Dooyoo. ________________________________ q: why did you join? a: I was short of a few quid, wanted to buy a new pc game and didn't realise you had to earn £22.50 before you could claim it. I was going to earn the fiver I needed and then jack it in. Before too long I kind of became sucked in, seeing how many reads you can get is quite a buzz. Hitting the next barrier 20 - 30 - 50 - ? is a kind of game and it does take work. ________________________________ q: What was your very first opinion on ? a: as my greatest passion (aside from my glorious wife) is computer games it comes of little suprise to me to find that it was a hastily written appraisal on Grand Theft Auto. A disheartening eight reads I recieved and it was still a busy time for the site. Peers such as Ophelia and Jill Murphy were clocking up heart stopping 80 hits per op. That was a target I could aim for. What did suprise me was how alike my "useful" rated review is to many other first efforts by new members, perhaps more surprising is how e
asy it is to evolve your writing style into something more worthy! ________________________________ q: did you find it easy to get the hang of dooyoo? a: Thats a tricky question, regarding surfing, reading and commenting I had no problems at all. If you meant writing opinions that were of a good enough standard to really earn bucks then yes. Thanks to Jill Murphy for my first crown. ________________________________ q: did you read other opinions before you posted your first one? A: A few. That was why I came here. But I doubt it matters how many opinions you read before you post your first, it depends on all manner of things from the time of day, to who is online. ________________________________ Q: Do you write no/some/many comments? A: According to my stats I write comments in three out of every four opinions. For two reasons. 1, it improves your advertising, people are more likely to follow your profile from a comment. 2, to tell people what i thought of thier op. Occasionally it's difficult because, after all, some time people write some very emotional pieces on their life experiences. Always attempting to inject a little humour in to my comments I find it difficult to make a "nice" comment without appearing glib. ________________________________ Q: When you click on the list of Newest Reviews, do you read your friends' opinions no matter what they're on/according to subject no matter who has written on it/preferably the opinions of new writers? A: It all depends on my mood and how much time I have when I'm surfing by. As much as possible I try to keep up with my friends, and as you get more people on your list it seems that more of the newest opinions are written by them! Being a guide for two categories I do get to read a lot of first time attempts. Currently I don't get to read as much or as often as I&
#39;d like. ________________________________ Q: Do you write your opinions in one sitting? A: It depends on the subject. For example with a DVD review I may watch a film and write part of the op and then watch the extras and write the remainer. I may begin writing an op and realise I've forgotten bits of what I'm supposed to be writing about; flavours, storylines, characters and need to re-experience them. Quite often I'll start an op at work (tut tut), filling out the bulk of the opinion and go home to research the key factors. Before my broadband I'd occasionally even write an op at home and research the particulars at work!! ________________________________ Q: Do you use a spell check? A: Yep, grammer and thesaurus too. Whilst my spelling is around 85% accurate without a spell checker I'd much rather go the extra mile. Thesaurus' are great. Not sure what I'd do without them. Although not on this particular piece. This is all me. ________________________________ Q: Do you think you can improve your chances to get a crown if you suck up to a guide? A: You'd think so. Those guides are all so shallow. Apart from me. I'm uncorruptable me. Besides what difference would it make? The crowns have nothing to do with guides surely? ________________________________ Q: Are you a member of a forum or a chat room? Plenty of forums. I'm not really a chat room kind of person. Communities can be hard to break into, personalities hard to understand. Forums help you get around that by giving you common footings. The two that are most commonly used by Dooyoo members (tooyoo and chatterweb) can be fun places to be. ____________________________________ Q: Does it get to you when members praise or condemn you? A: I guess. Though While its nice to recieve good comments, its that rare occasional co
mment which touches upon a part you were particularly proud of that makes it all worthwhile. As for condemnation. You didn't like it? Well that's your opinion! .____________________________________ Q: What did you do in your spare time before you joined dooyoo? A: Played games and worked harder. I know this because I was busted for writing an op for Dooyoo (Top Ten Movies) by my boss at the time. He wondered if I was writing a discertation. I guess that's evidence enough that I was putting more effort in to my ops. ____________________________________ Q: What do you wish for the future? A: A flawless website would be a bonus. Though the capital letter issue doesn't seem to worry me as much as others. I'd be happy if the question marks stopped. As for the rest of my life? Hmmm. A job as a games reviewer for a PC or PS2 magazine would be ace. The usual, world peace. Oh and untold riches beyond my wildest dreams so I could live the rest of my life writing ops on really expensive stuff. ____________________________________
