br> After a couple of months, I have decided to participate in this challenge, and answer the questions that MALU had very kindly set up to help new Dooyoo Members. Hopefully my answers will help these members get a better feel of the site, and get some useful advice along the way. (Sorry if it's a bit late!) Q: When did you join Dooyoo? A: I joined Dooyoo on the 19th of July 2002, I think I had visited Dooyoo a couple of times before this, and then decided to sign up as a member. Q: How did you discover Dooyoo? A: Mostly through Google, by searching for Comedy programmes, and on one of the results pages was Dooyoo reviews on 'Birds of a Feather' (see below). No one had recommended Dooyoo to me from other websites. Q: Why did you join? A: To write my opinions on various products, and to read other people's views on products. Making some money was also an incentive (!), but after a few opinions, you realise you would have to write quite a lot of opinions to earn a decent amount of miles or money, so it isn't really an issue to me anymore. Q: What was your very first opinion on? A: The BBC sitcom 'Birds of a Feather'; probably a pretty weird choice for a first op, you may think, but not to me! As I said above, I typed in sitcom titles into Google, and on occasions Dooyoo pages came out as results. I clicked on these pages, and saw other people's reviews and what they had written, and thought 'I could do that', so I did! Q. Did you find it easy to get the hang of dooyoo? A: . Not really, no. I didn't really rate other people's reviews early on, just the odd one here and there. I also wrote about four reviews in one week, which doesn't sound a lot, but now I only write about one review every two weeks - so I've learnt to spread it out a bit longer, and write better reviews. Churning out reviews every day isn't re
ally a good idea, it won't make you popular and is generally frowned upon. Q. Did you read other opinions before you posted your first one? A: Like I said above, not really - I just read and rated the odd one, mostly on topics that interest me and I didn't look at the 'newest opinions' list, at least not on a daily basis like I have done for the past year or so. Q: Do you write no/some/many comments? A: I write the odd comment, but usually I leave them if someone has written a poor review, so I tell them what they could have improved on. I occasionally praise other members opinions, but I don't always leave comments for people's reviews that I have enjoyed reading, unless there are also some interesting points raised. Q: When you click on the list of Newest Reviews, do you read your friends' opinions no matter what they're on/according to subject no matter who has written on it/preferably the opinions of new writers? A: I try to always read people in my C.o.F, regardless of whatever topic they write on. Opinions on food, drink, TV programmes, Music, Internet sites and books/magazines are the ones that interest me most, so if someone writes a review on these, I will always try to read them. I occasionally read op's from new writers, but it can depend upon the topic. Q: Do you write your opinions in one sitting? A: Early on I did, but I never do that now. Up until about my 15th review, I just used to go straight onto writing on Dooyoo, with a few ideas, and type my review in one go. Now I prepare my reviews offline, on WordPad, and check thoroughly before copying and pasting it onto Dooyoo. Q: How often do you post a new opinion? A: About every two weeks now. I used to write about three or four reviews per month up until last year, but as I'm finding fewer things to write about, I'm writing less and less reviews. Q. Do you
use a spell check? A: Now I always spell-check my reviews after I've written them, as you can often make omissions or mistakes that can be missed if you don't spell check. Early on I just wrote reviews in one go, so I had to re-write them if there were obvious mistakes or omissions. Q: Do you think you can improve your chances to get a crown if you suck up to a guide? A: No. Usually the best way to get a crown is to write a very good, informative review, and then it's up to other members to nominate you for a crown if they liked it. Q: Are you a member of a forum or a chat room? A: Yes, I am a Member of Tooyoo, and also a member of two different message boards on the Internet, based on different themes. I don't use chat-rooms at all. Q: Does it get to you when members praise or condemn you? A: I do like getting positive responses to my reviews, as it shows that people have enjoyed reading it. Obviously getting slated for writing something in your reviews can be annoying, particularly if it's something petty, but if it's more serious, then it best to deal with it and learn from any mistakes made. Everyone gets criticised at some point, so don't feel as if you're being discriminated against! Q: What did you do in your spare time before you joined dooyoo? A: Using the Internet, but not for any specific uses, or being a member of a site like Dooyoo. I looked at websites on my favourite comedy programmes or music. Also I listened to music, read books and magazines, and watched TV/videos, etc. Q: What do you wish for the future? A: I hope that more people come and join Dooyoo, but as serious members not wasting people's time; that the capital letters are sorted out when uploading reviews, and also to write more opinions that are helpful and make enjoyable reading. I hope you enjoyed reading my responses to the questions. If
you want to participate, please add. :-) Please don't take this challenge to ciao without asking MALU, she'd rather decide herself what to do with a text she's written, when to take it there or if at all. Thank you.
