Advantages: Money, Satisfaction of knowing you have written something worth reading

Disadvantages: Lack of sleep, Churners, NO CAPITAL BLOODY LETTERS!!

I was mulling over what to write about next when I noticed about five different opinions related to this topic. They had all been posted as part of MALU?s challenge. Being one for challenges, how could I resist.

Q: When did you join Dooyoo?

A: I joined Dooyoo on the 21st of March 2002. It was a fresh spring day, sunny with a light breeze.

Q: How did you discover Dooyoo?

A: Three of my brothers told me about Dooyoo prior to me getting on the net. They showed me a couple of times too, and I got the general idea of the site then.

Q: Why did you join?

A: Originally, I thought ?here?s a way to make a little bit of extra money?, as my brother had told me about him getting a payout. Also, I enjoy reading in my spare time, and writing is something that just flows with me. Research is something I enjoy and, by writing on the site, I was given the incentive to put my skills into practice.

Q: What was your very first opinion on?

A: My first opinion was about Liverpool F.C. Looking back now, I realise it was quite poor, but then I wondered what was wrong and how I could put it right.

Q. Did you find it easy to get the hang of dooyoo?

A: I found it very easy to learn what Dooyoo was about. I was fortunate in that a-true-ben read my first opinion and suggested I read some other opinions on the site to see what was needed to gain the better ratings. He also suggested I have a look at the advice section on the left. His comments helped me immeasurably and I quickly got a grasp of what Dooyoo is about.

Q. Did you read other opinions before you posted your first one?

A: Yes, I read a couple. I know I read one or two of each of my brothers? posting, and maybe one or two others. I can?t remember which though.

Q: Do you write no/some/many comments?

A: I go through phases to be honest. Sometimes I am in the mood to add a comment and other times I just can?
t be bothered. It doesn?t mean I don?t value the members? opinions, it?s just me being lazy.

Q: When you click on the list of Newest Reviews, do you read your friends' opinions no matter what they're on/according to subject no matter who has written on it/preferably the opinions of new writers?

A: The people in my circle of friends are there for a reason. They write good, informative reviews that I find very easy to read. Generally these members also return my reads, so it works for me on two levels. I try to always read their reviews.

I will read as many reviews as possible, no matter what the subject matter, but tend to comment less on these products, as I know little or nothing about them.

If I have read several opinions by a member I deem to be sub-standard, I tend to avoid their opinions in the newest reviews section. I normally feel I am wasting my time, as I rarely gain anything from these writers.

I never check out the newest members section, but read as many reviews as I can, so I guess it would be fair to say I read quite a few of peoples? first reviews.

Q: Do you write your opinions in one sitting?

A: Sometimes, but not always. I tend to do my research in one sitting, if my knowledge is lagging, and then write it at the next sitting. Some reviews I have written have taken as many as maybe twenty sittings. The review on Chester took me eight months to complete, as I lost my internet connection. Having said that though, it was quite a long review so probably would have taken a while anyway!!

Q: How often do you post a new opinion?

A: Again, I go through phases. As a general rule I never post opinions on consecutive days. I like each of my reviews to have been given a fair crack at trying to attain reads. I would rather write ten reviews all getting a hundred reads than writing two hundred reviews gaining only five reads each on average. I get more satisfaction ou
t of attaining a lot of reads and people really valuing what I say than posting passing comments which never really mean anything to anyone.

Q. Do you use a spell check?

A: I write my opinions on Microsoft Works which has an automatic spell check, but I always click that button to quickly run over to make sure I don?t miss anything. Presentation is everything.

Q: Do you think you can improve your chances to get a crown if you suck up to a guide?

A: I?ve never tried it myself, but then I only received my first crown in the last few days. Maybe that means I should have, but I doubt it. I see this as a site with values, both within the everyday members, and the community guides. On the whole, everybody seems to rate and write comments depending on what they actually think rather than just to get a return read. By the way, thanks to everyone who nominated my review, without you all this wouldn't be possile lol (Do I sound like I am at an awards show?)

Q: Are you a member of a forum or a chat room?

A: I am a member of Tooyoo, but nobody really uses it these days. What started as a bright idea has sadly diminished into a distant memory of the past. There are a few who use it still, but I am disappointed that the ?A good read? section never seems to have new suggestions on it.

I also use chat rooms from time to time, but do not frequent them on a regular basis. A lot of the chat rooms have stupid people on them making stupid or obscene comments and spoil it for the rest. Also, there are a few weirdos about on the net and I can?t be bothered with them. I have spoke to a few people who are nice though.

Q: Does it get to you when members praise or condemn you?

A: No, not at all. I would rather someone came straight out and said what they thought. How else are you supposed to improve yourself? If everybody just praised you, you would never look at different angles. Praise, of course, is al
w
ays ni
ce, but I find misplaced praise annoying. SAY WHAT YOU THINK!!!

Q: What did you do in your spare time before you joined dooyoo?

A: I used to be a lot more active to be honest. I used to play football a bit as well as other sports. I also used to play on my PS2 a lot (Gran Turismo 3 was the dogs b******s!!). Nowadays, I tend to reach for my X Box instead, but the PS2 still gets a look in now and then.

Q: What do you wish for the future?

A: Sort out the problem with CAPITAL BLOODY LETTERS!!! Also I hope I win the lottery so I never have to work in a crummy taxi office again. Don?t get me wrong, I enjoy my job generally, but a life of leisure sounds great to me. All that time to dedicate to Dooyoo!!

I hope you enjoyed reading my responses to the questions. If you want to participate, please add. :-)

Please don't take this challenge to ciao without asking MALU, she'd rather decide herself what to do with a text she's written, when to take it there or if at all. Thank you.

I think we're all fed up of the lack of capital letters!

The capital letters thing doesn't really bother me too much but I agree that (good or bad) people should say what they truly think. Great answers.
