this q&a challenge set by MALU can help newbies find out what dooyoo is about and, if many established members participate, what the community is like and will hopefully convince them to stay and become active. to be sure, everything has been said before, but has it had any impact? only for a limited time until the opinion disappeared from the front page. by presenting the tips on helping new members in the form of a questionnaire which can be done by several members the impact can perhaps be prolonged. several members, better: many members, to show that many roads lead to dooyoo. q: when did you join dooyoo? a: I first joined many moons ago in 2000 under the name of pepperann, I left because I had a bit of a to-do with another member and decided it wasn't worth the hassle. I then came back another time as Pinkle and started using my account to raise money for charidee, I left when my computer broke and I then returned last year in my new guise Glory_Fishes as a pun on my Ciao name Glorificus as my friend's daughter pronounced Glorificus that way and I thought it was sweet. ** If I could just say - any people who are thinking of deleting their accounts because of abuse, don't do it, you should just take a break because getting known all over again is a big pain in the bum and people come and go on this site and opinion sites in general. Just report it to abuse and take a break. Learn from my mistakes, someone has to, I didn't ________________________________ q: how did you discover dooyoo? a: a then friend of mine was writing for the site and thought that I would be good at it... how wrong was she? ________________________________ q: why did you join? a :I joined as I had just got my first puter and I thought I could use the money for Christmas presents as a skint student. No honestly I was, ok I am probably worse off now. _______________________________
_ q: what was your very first opinion on ? a: I think it was Captain Corelli's Mandolin it got about six reads ________________________________ q: did you find it easy to get the hang of dooyoo? A I did but I didn't get (and still don't) get why people get upset with rates, because unless it's something that took you ag es... it is still money ...... ________________________________ q: did you read other opinions before you posted your first one? A: I think I read all of my then mate's stuff and that was about it. Naughty. ________________________________ Q: Do you write no/some/many comments? A: i write when I feel I have something to say . I hate it when I see member's cutting and pasting comments , I mean get a life. ________________________________ Q: When you click on the list of Newest Reviews, do you read your friends' opinions no matter what they're on/according to subject no matter who has written on it/preferably the opinions of new writers? A: I try and read as many opinions in the new reviews bit as I can. Notice I said read NOT skim and no I don't place particular emphasis on the opinions of people I am close to, if I don't want to read about something I won't. It's not like you don't have loads of things to read on site , although I would argue that there are probably less new products than ''the old days'' but that's another rant entirely. _____________________________ Q: Do you write your opinions in one sitting? Book Reviews: Household Products: Yes. Music Reviews: No I like to be a bit of a geek about instruments, sounds, context and lyrics , sorry . Personal experience based opinions: Yes, because it makes the experience fresh to me. ________________________________
>Q: Do you use a spell check? <b r> A: Obviously not. I should really ________________________________ Q: Do you think you can improve your chances to get a crown if you suck up to a guide? A: Er no I happen to know quite a few of the guides offsite through MSN, meets etc and can I just say the only thing I'm likely to get of them is alcohol, which is alright by me. I always get a bit shocked when I get a crown. This current guise has two crowns and I think I've had three crowns before that, so I am hardly Dooyoo royalty. Q: Are you a member of a forum or a chat room? Yes I am. I like the message boards and was really hacked off when Cweb finished in my abscence , Sorry Mrs M, I was but huzzah we now have www.opinionators.co.uk thanks to Andy Mack and I think it's fab... even if certain members keep talking footie and promoting lyric / rhyme congas hehe. No seriously, join now, but do not give me hassles over ratings haha. ____________________________________ Q: Does it get to you when members praise or condemn you? A: I like it when someone I admire as a writer says ''Good work missus'' but it doesn't really bother me when someone says ''That is a big pile of cow plop there'' because when you are putting ''your stuff'' out there you have to expect a bit of flak. .____________________________________ Q: What did you do in your spare time before you joined dooyoo? A: There was LIFE before I started this opinionating lark??? Er I would be opinionated towards my friends and make them listen to my new CD's.. they thank you all for chilling me out and rescuing them from my huge Nick Cave/ PULP obsession. Q: What do you wish for the future? A: That people took it all less seriously. That the site worked better and that I will be able to raise lots of
money for my chosen c harity and continue to have fun. Mostly that the site didn't stumble like a drunken OAP.
