Advantages: Brilliant albums
Disadvantages: only ten choices
I like to think I have quite a wide range of musical taste and will give anything a listen to see what it's like, except manufactured music. (Saying that, in true hypocritical fashion I actually have taken a bit of a liking to the new Here'say song!) Well, I won't blabber on for ages, so here's my list, hope you enjoy, even if you don't particularly agree. (Apart from no. 1 they're not really in any order - it's too hard to separate most of them.) 1) OK computer - Radiohead My favourite band made history when they released this album - the best ever. Every track on it could be described as brilliant, with the exception perhaps of 'fitter happier' which most people find strange. Thom Yorke has an amazing voice and the lyrics are amazing. The rest are in no order. Appetite for destruction - Guns 'n' roses The epitomy of a rock album. Great guitars, powerful lyrics and an energetic singer to top it off. Great for ' rocking out' on your own round the house at full volume. ------------------ Queen Greatest hits - Queen My other favourite band's finest songs all on one CD - heaven. This CD is incredible, with every song being a classic. Freddie Mercury was a brilliant vocalist and entertainer and his voice is so charismatic when you hear it you have to stop what you're doing and listen. If you haven't heard this you are missing out. ------------------ Led Zepplin - Remasters - Led Zepplin Perfect easy rock - with an almost mystical touch. Amazing guitar solos and wondrful lyrics and vocals, this double CD is full of excellent songs. ------------------ What's the story morning glory? - Oasis The best album to come out of the britpop era? Definately. Everyone's favourite mancunians made a cracker here and it's full of brilliant lyrics and good vocals, notably Noel on 'Don'
t look back in anger'. ------------------ Jagged little pill - Alanis Morissette A strange inclusion some might say, but this album is in the top ten largest selling albums of all time list and is really good easy-listening, although some of the songs are a bit more heavy-handed for that kind of mood. A brilliant voice coupled with some excellent lyrics leave you wanting more, which she didn't really give the fans in her second album. Looking forward to the third, out later this year. ------------------- The bends - Radiohead Another brilliant album from those Oxford boys. This was my favourite radiohead album but then changed my mind to OK computer, although there is not much between them. If you want a slightly more 'rocky' radiohead than OK computer, try this out, and you won't be disappointed - I guarantee. ------------------- Nevermind - Nirvana The best word to describe this album is genius. Opening with 'Smells like teen spirit' you are given an excellent taste of what the rest of the album is like, outstanding. Cobain's muscal talent is on show for everyone to see here, and this angst-rock album will blow you away. ------------------- Everything must go - Manic street preachers I chose this as my favourite manics album but I am not yet sure. They are all great and it's hard to choose one. But with songs like Kevin Carter, removables and small black flowers... it's not hard to see why I chose this one. Really energetic and perfect listening if you want to let some anger out. ------------------- Automatic for the people - REM These guys have produced about 6 excellent albums, but this is the best, definately. Michael Stipe's lyrics and vocals and so smooth and controlled and this album is perfect soft-rock-chill-out music. Get it if you don't already have it. Great for anyone.
> Well, there it is, not for definate my top ten albums of al time, but pretty close, and there are others I left out which came pretty close. If you fancy hearing some great rock music, check out any of these albums and you won't be disappointed.

- 31/03/01 Some nice choices. Personally I think 'The Bends' to be far better than 'Ok Computer'. Nice choice to put Oasis into your top ten (everyone seems to forget them these days), and I was also pleased to see a mention of 'Automatic For The People' (an all-time great). Thanks! |

- 22/03/01 A little bit middle of the road for me, but a good opinion none the less |
