Advantages: They're mine

Disadvantages: Most people will probably hate them!

I can?t begin to count the amount of people that are going to read this op and think what a strange taste in music I have!! I like so many different kinds it?s untrue.

I?ve been a music freak ever since I was small. I was bought up on a diet of Elvis Presley and The Beatles, which were played on one of those wonderful old record players that had the arm, on which you could stack about ten 45?s. However, this eventually had its day, and with my first wage packet, I bought a ?proper? music system from my friend for a mere £20. I can honestly say I spent hours studying music magazines and read Smash Hits avidly, just so I could compete with my mates as to who knew the most words of songs in the charts. Happy days indeed but my love of music has stayed with me over the years and I?m still as avid a listener as I ever was back in the days of my youth. Now I have two teenagers, one into Hip Hop and the other into R&B, and a daughter aged ten who is loves R&B, Soul and Pop so e have a wide variety of music playing in the house continually.

Anyway here goes with my Top Ten Albums. Albums that very nearly made this list are George Michael ? Ladies and Gentleman, The Essential Luther Vandross, Sting and The Polic e- Greatest Hits, Sugababes ? Angels with Dirty Faces, Eurythmics ? Touch and Gabrielle ? Rise.

U2 ? ZOOROPA
*******************

U2 were always going to make it to my Top 10, the question was, which album? I?ve seen U2 twice in concert, and they are simply up there with the super bands. I am not so keen on their later stuff as I feel their musical style has changed so much over the years, it?s just too ?out there? for me now, but The J
oshua Tree, Rattle and Hum and Zooropa are all great albums.

My son Jack who is only 13 has a bit of a penchant for U2, especially the song Beautiful Day so they appeal to all ages (although he would hate me for telling the world he even listens to U2.

Zooropa was released in June 1993 and I have to say the first time I listened to the album, I thought it was weird. It was totally different to any of their other albums, especially the tracks Babyface and Lemon yet it grew on me and today I?m on my third copy. I can?t say anyone else in the house feels the same way about the album as me so this is one I tend to listen to on my own.

Track Listing: Zooropa, Babyface, Numb, Lemon, Stay (Faraway so close), Daddy?s gonna pay for your crashed car, First Time, Some days are better than others, Dirty Days, Wanderer.

Favourite track: Lemon because it is so different to anything else U2 have ever done.

PAUL YOUNG ? NO PARLEZ
**********************************
Although this album was one of my ex-husband?s favourite albums, this hasn?t put me off it a bit. This brings back so many memories of my late teens when a friend and I used to play it at full volume in my little old Datsun car as we drove around the town on a Saturday afternoon.

Paul Young was once part of the Q-Tips but went on to enjoy commercial success on his own. He was backed by The Fabulous Wealthy Tarts, whose name created quite a stir at the time although in this day and ago no one would bat an eyelid. This album was released in 1983, and takes pride of place in my collection. I still play this a lot, and it reminds me of great times spent with my mate Lisa
.

The album is a real mixture, with the distinctive voice of Mr Young, who reminds me slightly of Rod Stewart in the voice department.

Tracks: Come back and stay, Love Will tear us apart, Wherever I lay my hat, Ku Ku Kurama, Behind your smile, Love of the Common People, Oh Women, Iron out the rough spots, Broken Man, Tender Trap, Sex.

Favourite Track: Ku Ku Kurama

SUPERTRAM& #80; ? EVEN IN THE QUIETEST MOMENTS
********************************************** ******************

Released in 1977. I freely admit that I have all of the Supertramp albums, but this is my favourite, purely because it has the song ?Downstream? on. This is my favourite Supertramp song of all time, and it?s a slushy one. Words include

You are the reason I was born
Be with you through all seasons
I'll always hear you when you call
We'll keep the love light shining
Through each night and day
A lonely life behind me
Oh what a change you've made

I was first introduced to Supertramp when I was about 14, and they bought out Breakfast in America, released from the album of the same name. I then made it my duty to find out more about them, so ended up buying all their albums, which I now have on CD. The one huge bug bear I have with Supertramp is that they have very few tracks on each album and this is no exception having only seven. I think because they were a super group they knew people would go out and buy the album regardless of how little they were getting for their money. Supertramp were weird, long hair and freak
y people, but the music they made is fantastic.

Favourite Track: Downstream

The Beatles ? 1962-1966 The Red Album
********************************************** *

I have a lot of Beatles stuff, and the memories of their music go back to my earliest childhood. My mum went to see them when she was six months pregnant with me and was kept behind until everyone had left the venue by a concerned security guard. Maybe the fact that I heard their music in the womb is why I still love their music to this day.

This is my favourite Beatles Album, because my mum and I used to play this a lot just before her death, and it brings back sad as well as happy memories. This album now sells in HMV at an amazing £30.99. Better to go to Kazaa and get it!

Tracks: Love me do, Please Please Me, From me to you, She loves You, I want to hold your hand, All my loving, Can?t buy me love, Hard Day?s Night, And I love her, Eight days a week, I feel fine, Ticket to ride, Help, You?ve got to hide your love away, We can work it out, Day Tripper, Drive my car, Norwegian Wood, Nowhere Man, Michelle, In my life, Girl, Paperback Writer, Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine

Favourite Track: 8 days a week

SIMPLE MIN DS ? ONCE UPON A TIME
********************************************** *

I class Simple Minds along the same lines as U2. If you have ever been to one of their concerts you will know exactly what I mean. It was quite difficult to choose my favourite album by Jim Kerr and co., but I chose this one, as it was just after they
released this that I went to the first of their concerts. The album was released in 1985 and does only have eight tracks on, but each one is wonderful. If you haven?t seen Simple Minds sing Alive and Kicking live with their backing singers, then you ain?t lived especially the following verse

What you gonna do when things go wrong?
What you gonna do when it all cracks up?
What you gonna do when the Love burns down?
What you gonna do when the flames go up?
Who is gonna come and turn the tide?
What's it gonna take to make a dream survive?
Who's got the touch to calm the storm inside?
Don't say goodbye
Don't say goodbye
In the final seconds who's gonna save you

Tracks: Once upon a time, All the things she said, Ghostdancing, Alive and Kicking, Oh Jungleland, I wish you were here, Sanctify Yourself, Come along way.

Favourite track: Alive & Kicking

Robbie Williams ? Escapology
***********************************

Although I have all of The Robster?s albums, this one I have to say, is outstanding. His other offerings have been pushed to the back of the shelves, lost forever in the dusty abyss. This one has been played so much I shall probably have to replace it at some point. Love him or hate him, Robbie has talent and has come a hell of a way since the days of Take That.

When this was released last year, Robbie had ceremoniously given Guy Chambers his marching orders and as Guy co-wrote most of the songs on the album his critics said he would never be as successful again He?s not released anything else yet so we?ll see what happens!

Released after ?Swing when you?re winning? this is Robbie at his best and many
of the songs on the album have already been released as singles.

Sexed up is supposedly Robbie?s view on his ill-fated romance with Nicole Appleton. Lines include

Screw you I didn't like your taste
Anyway, I chose you
Let's all gone to wasted Saturday
I'll go out and find another you

Why don't we
Why don't we break up
There's nothing left to say
I got my eyes shut praying they won't stray
Oh! When I sexed up
That's what makes the difference today

Favourite Track: Something Beautiful ? This has to be the next single

LUTHER VANDROSS ? GIVE ME THE REASON
********************************************** ***********

Released in 1986. It has to be said that Luther Vandross has one of the most amazing voices. Luther has been around for years and I have been lucky enough to see him on a few occasions. One of the concerts I saw was at Wembley Arena ?in the round? when I was seven months pregnant with my first baby. For the duration of the concert, Rob was jiggling about in my stomach and even though he would never admit it at the age of 16, he will sing along with Luther if he hears a song by him!! I?ve chosen this album as this is still the one I play the most, even though it does remind me of the ex-hubby.

TRACKS: Stop to Love, See Me, I gave it up (when I fell in love), So amazing, Give me the Reason, There?s nothing better than love, I really didn?t mean it, Because it?s really love, Anyone who had a heart

Favourite track: I really didn?t mean it

#70;LEETWOOD MAC ? RUMOURS
***************************************

I was going out with my first boyfriend at the age of 13. He arrived one evening, with this clutched under his arm. I thought he?d gone barmy, Fleetwood Mac were for ageing hippies, in my opinion.

However, after listening to this I was hooked and still play it to this day. This album is timeless, and sounds as good now as it did back in 1977 when it was released. Most people who listen to the album will instantly recognise ?The Chain? as the theme music for one of the motor racing programmes on the TV.

This doesn?t mean to say I?m a Fleetwood Mac freak, I only have this ?Tusk? and their new album ?Say you will? but I think they are brilliant. Mick Fleetwood has to go down in history as the worst Brit Awards presenter though after his ill-fated appearance in the Eighties with the gross Samantha Fox where they continually fluffed their lines.

Tracks: Second Hand News, Dreams, Never going back again, Don?t Stop, Go your own way, Songbird, The Chain, You make loving fun, I don?t want to know, Oh Daddy, Goldust Woman

Best Track: Dreams
Even typing these words makes me shiver, a classic track

Now here I go again, I see the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself
It's only me
Who wants to wrap around your dreams and ...
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
Dreams of loneliness ...
Like a heartbeat ... drives you mad ...
In the stillness of remembering what you had ...
And what you lost ...
And what you had ...
And what you lost

BORN
; TO DO IT ? CRAIG DAVID
***************************************

Erm yes ok, this is a little embarassing but it has sentimental value!

I bought this album just at the time my husband and I got together, so it quickly became very special to both of us. Although this was released in August 2000, I didn?t get round to buying it until March 2001. I loved the song Fill Me In and thought Craig had a great voice.

I have to say that this is the best of Craig?s two albums. There is only one duff track on thes album in my eyes, and that?s ?Follow Me? where the lyrics show how young and inexperienced Craig is.

When I get on top and I make it real hot
And you tell me don't stop (ooh, yeah)
Are you fallin'
When I get on top and I make it real hot
(When I get on top of you)
And you tell me don't stop
Whose name you calling

Oh come on Craig, you obviously need to learn a bit more about the bedroom!

Tracks: Fill Me In, Can?t be messing around, Rendezvous, Seven Days, Follow Me, Last Night, Walking Away, Time to Party, Booty Man, Once in a lifetime, You know what, Rewind

Favourite Track: Once in a lifetime.

PAUL WELLER ? MODERN CLASSICS
**********************************************

Steve is probably going to be hacked off that Craigy?s not No. 1, but he is going to have to agree that I play this more than any album in our entire collection, and I?m now on my third copy!! I?ve followed Paul?s career from his days with The Jam
, through The Style Council and finally his solo career. This bloke is so under-rated and so talented it?s unreal. This is the best album he?s ever done and we have all of them. There is not one naff track on here, but there are a couple that stand out. Namely Broken Stones and You do something to me.

Tracks: Out of the Sinking, Peacock Suit, Sunflower, The Weaver, Wild Wood, Above the Clouds, Uh Huh Oh Yeh, Brushed, The ChangingMan, Friday Street, You do something to me, Brand New Start, Hung Up, Mermaids, Broken Stones, Into Tomorrow

Favourite Track: Broken Stones although it used to be Sunflower!!!

Lyrics include:

Like pebbles on a beach
Kicked around, displaced by feet
Like broken stones
All trying to get home

Like a loser?s reach
Two slow and short to hit the peaks
So lost and alone
Trying to get home

Well that?s it, my ten of the best. I have absolutely hundreds of albums in the house but these are the ones that have stood the test of time, although at the moment I?m obsessed with Joss Stone, George Michael and Blu Cantrell so they could make an entrance at any time!
