Advantages: Great music, great memories

Disadvantages: None

Here is my list of my 10 favourite artists. You will find my tastes quite conservative, but I'm that kind of gal!

1. ABBA. Without doubt my favourite group of all time. I've been a fan since I was 11 (I'm now 34) and am so pleased their music is enjoying a revival. They were never fully appreciated in their heyday; now they are finally getting the recognition they deserve. A favourite track? There are so many - "Thank you for the music", "The winner takes it all", the not so well known "Our last summer".....how long have you got?

2. LINZI HATELEY. You may not be familiar with her, but I think Linzi Hateley has one of the best voices I've ever heard. I first heard her in the musical "Joseph" at the London Palladium a few years ago, where she played the narrator. She's tiny, but has the most amazing, powerful voice. I have an album of hers called "For the first time", or alternatively listen to the cast album of "Joseph" if you want to hear her.

3. QUEEN. Another classic group, again so many excellent songs - "Hammer to fall", "Is this the world we created", and of course "Bohemian Rhapsody". Who can fail to be moved by Freddie Mercury's powerful vocals.

4. SPANDAU BALLET. I wasn't really into the New Romantic scene in the early 80's, but I had a soft spot for Spandau Ballet. I had my first "slow dance" to the sound of "True" - I still go all tingly when I think about it now!

5. EARTH WIND & FIRE. Another group that were in my prime when I was in my teens. The beautiful "Fantasy" would definitely feature in my top ten songs of all time.

6. BILLY JOEL. When I first started going out with my husband we would play Billy Joel's greatest hits album in the car all the time. One of our favourites here was "Piano Man" - what's he doing now, doe
s anyone know?

7. MADNESS. The Nutty Boys were always good for a laugh and my friends and I used to have great fun trying to dance like them. Their music was pretty good too, the best one Being "One step beyond". This is the heavy heavy monster sound!

8. DAVID ESSEX. Yes, I know he's not the greatest singer in the world, but there's just something about him (probably those gorgeous blue eyes!) He's been around for years and is still popular. I like his early stuff like "Rock on" and "Hold me close", but later tracks like "Myfanwy" and "A Winter's tale" (just right for this time of year) make for pleasant listening.

9. LIONEL RICHIE. Either with or without the Commodores, Lionel is the ultimate in easy listening. His album "Can't slow down" is excellent to have on in the background at dinner parties.

10. THE POLICE. I wasn't sure whether to include the Police at first, as when I was at school I only pretended to like them (it wasn't cool to admit you liked Abba!) but over the years they have grown on me. "Don't stand so close to me" has to be their best song, mainly because Sting was a teacher and penned it from personal experience.

Well there you are, my top 10. You may or may not agree with some of my choices, but thank you for reading!

Hoping you'll come back, Krystal. BILLY JOEL UPDATE!! Last I heard (and this was about a year ago, I think) was that he has stopped writing lyrics, having discovered that he could do stuff that was just as moving without them. He's currently working on that. Don't know any more than that (release dates etc), I'm afraid, but there you go. Recently new to dooyoo, and I love your list. I like alot of these, but I'm not sure how many would be on my Top Ten. Great op though!

I agree with ABBA - especially your song 'Our Last Summer', from the album Arrivals, which made my top 10 album list if you care to check! Keep rockin - Andy
