I’ve always been a very big reader, since I was about, I don’t really know where to start my top 10 as I’ve forgotten more books than I can remember! But I’ll give it a go! Right pop pickers, in at number 10 we have…. **Robert Goddard with ‘Caught in the Light’** This was a book I came across while on holiday (I borrowed this of the same lady I lent my No.1 to!) It isn’t something I normally would have picked but she insisted! The book is about Ian Jarrett, he is on an assignment in Vienna and comes across a mysterious woman, Marian Esguard he falls in love with her and when he goes home he leaves his wife and plans to meet his lover at a specific place and time. Surprise, surprise she doesn’t turn up and he sets of trying to find her and solve a mystery on the way that could be up to 170 years old, a lot of the story is based around old photography, there are many twists and turns and there is no guessing the end as there is any possibility with this writer! At number 9 we have… **Helen fielding with ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’** I think there is no explaining this one, great fun book to read, not hard to follow, good for the beach. Based on Bridget Jones a singleton for those who’s heads have been stuck in the sand! Bridget suffers many disgraces in the book including coming down a fireman’s pole (oo er missus) and landing on the camera bum first live on national telly (at least she wasn’t wearing those huge pants – but that’s another disaster!) The second book Edge of Reason is a great read too! At number 8, up three places…. **Patricia Cornwell with ‘Postmortem’** Patricia Cornwell was my favourite writer for a long time, before all her novels sort of merged into one! They were all so alike they got dull! This is one of her first books, Kay Scarpetta is
the main character along with her very unhealthy sidekick friend Pete Marino. Kay is the Chief Medical Examiner in Virginia and Pete is a cop, They are after a serial killer, three women have died so far and Kay receives a call for the fourth! Uh oh – it all kicks off! The next four or five of her books are well worth the read, make sure you read them in order though as they do have information and characters in all of them that are not as well explained unless you read them in the right order! All well worth the read, Down 2 places at No.7 we have…. **John Grisham with ‘A Time to Kill’** This is quite similar to a classic book, ‘To Kill a Mocking Bird’ It’s about a 10-year-old girl’s life that is ruined by two drunk men, the story is very moving, the father takes the law into his own hands and finds himself on trial. The book is based around vengeance and racism and the culture in Southern USA. Once again John Grisham is a great writer, I do have a few of his books unread at home due to the same reason as Patricia Cornwell, all books seem to merge together and only change slightly. However this is a great book and well worth a read, along with his others such as Pelican Brief, The firm, both have been made into films (along with this one) A non-mover at No.5 is…. **Jeffery Archer with ‘Kane and Abel** This was a very unlikely book for me to read, my step dad had this so I picked it up and thought why not? This book is about William Lowell Kane and Abel Rosnovski, both are on opposite sides of the world but on the same day, William is the rich son of a Boston millionaire and Abel is a poor immigrant, they are destined to meet later in the book as Abel struggles to make his fortune. This book has it all – very hard to understand at the age of 15 but never the less a great one, I enjoyed it so much I then read the follow on
8216;The prodigal Daughter’ Number 4 this week is…. **Harlan Coben with ‘Tell No One’** I have already written a review about this one – great book, great writer, twists, it’s got it all! Read it! And now we have the top three, at Number 3…. **Jill Mansell with ‘Miranda’s Big Mistake’** Jill Mansell writes great books, all easy reading, funny, smart and witty. This one is obviously about Miranda, it’s a romantic comedy. Miranda meets Greg who is obviously gorgeous and funny! He also has a secret – he has just left his pregnant wife! He doesn’t think she’ll find out so what’s the problem? You’ll see! I have read a fair few of her books and have ‘Head over Heels’ just calling for me to read it in my draw at work (I’m too busy with Dooyoo and Tooyoo though!) And here’s number 2, didn’t quite manage to knock of the top slot but here we are with the classic… **Margaret Mitchell with ‘Gone with the Wind’** Is this not a classic? First published in 1936 set against the backdrop of the American civil war , this is a love story about Scarlett O’Hara and of course Rhett Butler. The book also has a sequel – Scarlett, also a right riveting read! And it’s a non-mover at number one, please give a warm welcome to….. **Maggie O’ Farrell with ‘After you’d gone’** This is by far the most moving and emotional book I have ever read, I am not a soppy person, as you’ve seen by the rest of my choices! I don’t cry easily at films and this one was not a good choice to take on a dream holiday to the Maldives! I took six books with me and this was the third one I read, I read this book in about three days, in between the snorkeling, sun bathing and drinking! My b
oyfriend couldn’t believe how upset I was! I then lent it to an English teacher, needless to say the next time we saw her she was wearing shades due to the puffy redness around her eyes! Ahhh, it wasn’t a soppy nice cry either. This book is about three generations of women, based around Alice, she saw something that shocked her and she ends up in hospital, the book is about her life and how she got to be there. It’s fair to say that this book really touched and upset me – It’s not easy to make me cry and believe me I couldn’t stop! This book is the most beautifully written book, the feelings she feels are explained so well that you almost feel them yourself. This is an absolute must read, this is also her first book. Oh, how exciting – just found out her new book is out in Hardback – Called my lovers lover! I’m off to Amazon to buy it £6.50 wow – save 50%! Thanks for listening pop pickers, hope to see you all here next week for another Top 10 Goodnight, god bless! This was a long un wasn’t it?!!

- 24/04/02 I'm sorry! I looked through and I couldn't find any of them I liked! Still, it was well written and you like 'em, so that's the important thing. |

- 22/04/02 I love Jill Mansell's books too. Not overkeen on Bridget Jones though, preferred the film! |

- 21/04/02 Yep, great op.
Some I've read. Some I haven't. Some I agree with. Some I don't.
The Bridget Jones one ..... Nooooooo!
Kane & Abel ..... He can't tell the truth, but Archer can definitely tell a story. This one makes my countdown too.
Tell No One ..... Read this a couple of weeks ago. And was most disappointed. The ending really ruined it for me.
Anyhoo ......
