Advantages: Pig's are cool!
Disadvantages: I feel all Christmas-sy now...
It has been freezing cold recently and with the frost on the ground this morning Christmas seems not so far away (42 days to be precise…).
10. Socks. Yes, I know it’s one of those presents where you groan and moan because it is so unimaginative. I have perhaps 7 socks at the moment, most of them with holes in. I never buy myself socks though, because I always think when I’m in a shop that I’d much rather buy something a little more exciting than socks!
9. New strings for my guitar. I have my mum’s old guitar (it is truly old!) and the strings have turned a coppery colour and just generally need changing.
8. I would like my cheque from my solicitors please…! I’m currently waiting to see if/ when how much compensation I will get for a car crash I was in over a year and a half ago. It’s now at the stage where the other side will say “here you go, have some money”, or it’ll go to court. I would very much like a cheque through the post… please!!!
7. Heroes Season 1 DVDs – I watched the first episode which was quite good, and my friend told me it was amazing.
6. A winter coat – I saw the most gorgeous coat in Topshop the other day, and now I am dying for a lovely new coat/ jacket. Winter is the perfect time to get one after all!
5. 24 Season 6 DVDs – need I say any more. There is no-one who is cooler than Keifer Sutherland. No-one.
4. Spooks Season 5 DVDs (I realise this is the 3rd DVD collection I would like, but when you are a student you need something engrossing which is a real excuse not to do any work!) – I have always harboured a secret desire to be in the secret service, acting undercover and saving lives. I know, I know, it’s probably not very glamorous or exciting, but Spooks makes it seem like it is. Also helps that the cast are pretty gorgeous!
3. Ben Elton – Blind Faith book. Until recently I had no idea Ben Elton was more famous for stand up, than he was for writing books (I know, I have lived a sheltered life). His books are hilarious (unlike his stand up). I’ve read every single one, and whilst some aren’t as good as others, they are still all pretty good. That is why I have been superly excited about his new book being released!
2. A bus pass (oh the excitement!). Yes, I know, it’s not exactly the most thrilling present, but it is a very much needed one! It costs me (without a bus pass) £1.50 a journey, and with the travelling I have to do to get to uni etc. it comes to about £15 a week. However, you can buy a First bus pass for £104 for three months (a big saving!). So, whilst a bus pass is not the most exciting thing to get for Christmas it would be the most useful, and save me sooo much money!
1. A pig. A pig!? Yes, a pig! I would love it if someone would buy a pig, or a goat, or chickens etc. or just donate some money to a worthwhile charity. Christian aid are doing something called Present Aid, where you can buy a variety of things, such as a pig, an ox, a wheelbarrow, shoes etc. The money you spend on items will be used to help people in poverty. “if you buy a goat, ducks or worms from the farming category, your money will be spent on livestock and agricultural projects throughout the developing world; choose a community tap from the eco-systems category, and your money will go into the ‘water and environment’ fund to pay for clean water projects that fight disease and make crops grow.” (http://www.presentaid.org/page/howitworks). This is an amazing gift, and I would love to know that instead of receiving a present, that someone who is a lot more deserving than I am was getting something that would improve their life. Summary: Send someone something worthwihle this Christmas

- 29/04/08 Theres a literaracy application on Bebo where you can donate grains of rice for every word you get correct. I've donated about 3000 grains so far. It really does work. |

- 14/01/08 I LOVE those charity gifts. I tried to persuade my inlaws to get them for me because their tastes are very different to mine and they always get me stuff I hate, which is sweet of them but kind of annoying at the same time. However, they refused, saying that it wasn't a "proper" present... weird, as I would have GREATLY preferred the charity pig to the fake-wood resin photoframe with a huge elephant on it. :( |
