Advantages: I have an odd taste in music

Disadvantages: None? But I'm biast in this instance

I am very big music geek sadly.
I have followed the UK Singles Chart for about five years now and buy far too many CDs.
I really started getting into music when I was about 8 years old, thanks to the Spice Girls [embarassingly]. After their split I was a bit bored of the music scene but got back into it again a couple of years later.
My music taste has shifted quite a bit in recent years from less pop stuff to groups that are more common to grace the pages of Kerrang!
Below however is a guide to my top 10 singles of all time...

10 - Spice Girls - 2 Become 1
Ok so it's nearly Christmas in 1996 and I'm 8 years old sitting at home flicking through channels. We'd just got cable [Diamond Cable I believe it was back then!]
and I was watching The Box [the music channel]. Over the course of half an hour, this song was played about 9 times or so and I soon found my obsession with the Spice Girls and music in general growing.
The song is special to me for that reason alone. Before then music had just been something my parents listened to on the radio and I remembered random songs I had heard.

09 - Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
I do think this is one of the best songs ever written. The lyrics are brilliant and Natalie gives an incredible performance. I have followed her music career closely since this but sadly she doesn't seem to have produced anything as good since this track.

08 - My Chemical Romance - I Don't Love You
My favourite all time band and their best song. I love the bitterness and emotion Gerard Way uses in his voice when he sings this song and also it's a bit softer than some of their other tracks which took me by surprise when I first heard it.
It still has that dark trademark feel to it though.

07 - Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight Tonight
I loved this band for such a long time! I actually remember first seeing the video to this song back in 1997 and being totally fascinated by how odd and inventive it was. The song was also a perdonal favourite of one of my best friend's who commited suicide last year, causing me to listen to it again and
remembering why I loved it.

06 - Garbage - Only Happy When It Rains
Garbage are another of my favourite bands who I didn't really begin to appreciate until a few years ago. I really feel as if this track relates to me as I somehow deliberately sabotage things when my life is going well as I feel like
I deserve to constantly be in strife. Shirley Manson is an amazing woman and I love the emotion she has when singing this song.

05 - Madonna - Frozen
I do find Madonna to be quite overrated but this song comes from an equally amazing album [Ray Of Light]. It was so different to anything she'd ever done before and again I love a song in which I can relate to and feel the lyrics.
There's a really disturbing atmosphere to the track and when you listen to it, it feels like you're floating away all alone. I love the harmonies in it as well. Very creepy.

04 - Evanescence - My Immortal
I fell in love with Evanescence when I heard this song. Amy Lee is one of the most beautiful and inspirational women in music and there is such powerful and emotion in this song it sends shivers up and down my spine.
I rushed out to buy their album 'Fallen' and I remember that I listened to this track non stop for about a week. It's so haunting and also at the same time soothing.

03 - Avril Lavigne - When You're Gone
This is a very recent song but one whic hI heard for the first time last year when a friend of mine had just died. It made me cry really. Avril at times may be bratty and as far away from this place as can be but when she does
venture into it the result is truly beautiful. There's just something about the strain she puts on her voice as if she's bleeding pure emotion.

02 - Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Me and my friends back when I was about 17 used to go out and get drunk and then head home and just blast this song out loud. Very anti-social of us I must confess but it's an anthem and I think it will continue to appeal to people for generations to come. Following first hearing this I discovered the entire Nirvana back catalogue and became virtually hooked on them for quite a while.

01 - Charlotte Church - Moodswings [To Come At Me Like That]
So yes my favourite single ever... A shocking choice perhaps? Or a very poor #1 as many people have told me. I just love the song - everytime I listen to it, it's like I'm listening to it for the first time. It has a great catchy feel to it and makes me just want to get up
and start throwing things. Very autobiographical as I often feel like I'm constantly changing moods and opinions on things, mostly just to please people.

So there you go. A brief insight into my favourite songs of all time.
