Music has been, is and always will be a huge part of my life so whilst writing as many useful product reviews as I can for you guys I thought I would slip in a list of my top ten favourite singles.
I have a wide variation in this list which sums up my love for music, I listen to everything from Classical to heavy metal and enjoy many different songs for many different reasons.
I will give you the top ten in reverse order, so starting at number ten we have, Meatloaf - two out of three aint bad. This has been a favourite of mine since I first heard it and I never tire of hearing it or singing along to it. It is a brilliant and powerful ballad and one of Meatloaf's best singles.
At number nine for me would be, Iron Maiden - Can I play with madness. The hard rock band Iron Maiden released this as a sort of bridge song between pop and hard rock, for me it is still more rock but the lyrics are a bit more sing along to than most hard rock tracks and it is just so catchy and brilliant to drive to, I love it.
At number eight a song with real meaning for me, Cat Stevens - Morning has broken. Better known to most as a hymn this was the song played at my Grans funeral and it is still very touching to me after six years but also is a very nice song.
Number seven in my top ten singles is a more upbeat song, Amy Stewart - Knock on wood. This is a top disco track from the 70`s and a song I just love to have on full blast when driving or getting ready for a night out, It just gets me so in the mood. If it comes on at a party then I will be first on the dance floor and no mistaking.
On to number six and a song that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up, Hymn to the sea - James Horner. This is the eerie, haunting melody from the awesome Titanic movie. The wash of emotion that comes over me when listening to this piece of music is indescribable in words. If you have never listened to this then do so as soon as you can!
At number five would be the late Luciano Pavarotti - Nesun Dorma. An unmistakable song from a man with an unmistakable voice. Enough said.
At four is a song that always brings a tear to my eye, Elvis Presley - My boy. A song about a man staying in a broken relationship just for his son whom he clearly loves more than life itself, sung by THE best voice ever to be heard!
At number three I would put Randy Crawford - Almaz. This is another very powerful ballad that gets me every time, randy`s voice is so pure and the lyrics so good this song just blows me away.
Number two for me in this list of top ten singles goes to the late great Freddie Mercury with the song Bohemian Rhapsody. As lead singer of the band Queen Freddie had so many great singles I could have made a top ten just from them but the one that really stands out for me is this one, just sheer brilliance!
My all time number one single is a song that has real meaning and is sung with such passion by the man that wrote it that it will never be surpassed as far as I am concerned, Labi Siffre - Something inside so strong. Labi was inspired to write this song as an anti-Apartheid anthem when he saw a white soldier shooting at black children. He was so appalled by what he had witnessed that he wrote this song to advise Africans to stand tall in the face of adversity. It has so much meaning that it becomes very moving but even with that meaning taken away the song is beautiful and his voice is excellent.
Well there you have it my all time top ten singles, I bet you were expecting the all saints and spice girls eh? I do of course have many more songs that I love including a lot more modern singers and bands such as Snow patrol, Amy Winehouse, The Kooks and the ting tings. I am also a big fan of Radiohead and there track "Creep" could so easily have been in my top ten.
The reason those songs are in the top ten and more modern ones are not is that for me a song has to be with you for years before it can become a favorite. I have many songs that I listen to now that in a few years will probably not be on my IPod any longer but those ten will always be present.

Summary: Real music must have meaning!
