Advantages: My favourites all in one list
Disadvantages: I know I will get hammered with useful and somewhat usefuls from people disagreeing with my taste
Here are my top 10 singles of all time (I write on a whim, these I will say, may be subject to change):
You Learn - Alanis Morrisette
I have loved Alanis all my life, I bought Thank You first, going backwards to Jagged Little Pill then skipping back forward and buying Under Rug Swept. Since then I have been an avid fan, buying any of her back catalogue I didn't have and going to see her. The song is about, unsurprisingly, learning. Learning when you choke, when you choose, when you cry. Alanis recommends life experiences, such as having your heart broken, to help you learn and become a bigger better stronger person. Makes me feel so good every time I warble along to it!
Jealous Guy - John Lennon
I enjoy songs with words, and this is another great song. I love the message. He's sorry he hurt you, but he did it because he was jealous. I imagine an enraged spurned lover exacting her revenge whenever I hear it.
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - The Beatles
When I was little, my Dad and I would drive around in his car singing any Beatles song which popped in to his head. But this was his favourite; he would bang on the drums (on his steering wheel). He told me it was speculative that this song was about LSD, he taught me the words and I imagined the song in my head. Happy times :o)
One - Mary J Blige (U2 original, Bono collaboration)
I remember the first time I heard this song, Chris Moyles played it on the Radio One Breakfast show and he said to his listeners 'When I first heard about this I thought, well you don't mess with U2, but then when I heard it I thought, that's a really good record' I listening to the song and I fell in love with it. In my opinion it is far better than the original and Mary J Blige is outstanding. I cant listen to the original now without singing at the pace and in the tone of Mary!
Show Me Love - Robin S
And
You Got the Love - The Source feat. Candi Staton
No matter how down I am, or how miserable and unsociable I feel I can put these songs on and feel ready to go out, they pick you up no matter what, brilliant dance songs, on every mix tape I ever make!
Stay - East 17
This is very sad and embarrassing; but I love the song because of a good reason! This song came out the Christmas after my Granddad died. My Nanna loved it and played it lots. She said the words reminded her of my Granddad. She died of a broken heart not even 12 months later.
Jesse James - Cher
Cher gets a lot of stick and people say she wasn't great she was just a phenomenon because she looked good and wore outrageous costumes. People say she cant act and that her come back tours have been poor. I love her! I love the film Mask, she is amazing in it, and I love this song to death, in fact it's one of my favourite karaoke numbers
Always - Erasure
Perhaps one of the greatest love songs for me of all time. I like to make believe.
Sober - Pink
Pink is one of my heroes I love her, and I would love to be so strong and independent like her. This song is the anthem to my life and I play it to death! The video is good too ;o)
