Advantages: All great songs
Disadvantages: They don't seem to make them like that any more!!!
After reading quite a lot of opinions on ten best singles I thought I would add my own list in this category. Well, what a hard thing to do!!! I'm a real music fan and like all sorts of music, from the 50's to the 90's and have a record collecton of about 4,000, so you can imagine what a task it was to choose only ten!! Anyway I did it, and here they are: 1: The best of me by Cliff Richard, I have been a big Cliff fan for 33 years and this has got to be the best song he's ever done, recorded in 1989 this was his 100th single, he chose this for his 100th because he says it reflects the sort of relationship he has with his fans, and I always imagine him singing it just for me!! The words are really lovely, I also chose this song when I got married earlier this year, the words just say it all!!! 2: Paranoid by Black Sabbath, This has got to be THE best song ever recorded. This is real rock!!! Black Sabbath was one the the best rock groups ever, although they never had great single success. They had more success with albums. Paranoid was their first single which was recorded in 1970 and reached number 4 in the charts, they never released any more singles until 1978 but with not much success, they went on to make a few more until 1989 when they seemed to give up. 3:Disco 2000 by Pulp, This is the only record I've chosen from the 90's, not that I don't like 90's music, but theres not all that much that I could say stands out to be special, but this is just brilliant, from one of the best groups of the 90's. it was voted the best song for the millenium on our local radio station last year, this record will always remain a classic. 4:Whiskey in the jar by Thin Lizzy, reached number 6 in 1973, I remember my friend playing me this record, and when I heard it, well, WOW!!! this is great, really great rock record with Phil Lyott on lead vocals and guitar, and could he play that guita
r!!! just pure brilliance. 5:Battleship Chains by Georgia Satellites only reaching number 44 in 1987, I first heard this on a music channel just after it's release, I'd never even heard of this group before, but after hearing this song I had to go out and by their album, it was just great, really heavy kinda rock stuff, with great guitar sounds, Georgia Satellites were an American group who never went on to have success here, only releasing three singles and only just making the top 70!!! I really couldn't understand this as they really were great, perhaps they just didn't have the airplay they deserved as I'd never heard them being played on the radio. 6:Gee baby by Peter Shelley, I loved this song from the first time I heard it, reaching number 4 in 1974, such a lovely soppy sort of song, Peter Shelley was the genius behind Alvin Stardusts success writing songs for Alvin in the 70's he decided to have a go at singing himself although this was a big hit he never really made it, only releasing one more single and an album, which I have to say was also brilliant. 7:Could it be forever by David Cassidy, The heart throb of the 70's, I fell in love with him when he first appeared on the scene, This was his first release reaching number two in 1972, this is just so dreamy!!! just like David himself, He must have been the most geogeous guy I'd ever set eyes on!! he became the most lusted after man in the 70's with young girls going crazy over him. He went on to realease a load more hits until 1975 when he finally called it as day. 8:Spirit in the sky by Norman Greenbaum, This was a great disco hit in the 70's and still does well at parties even now.A real classic, great to dance to with some great lyrics, this was the only record Norman Greenbaum ever came to release, but will always remain one of the biggest hits of all time. 9: Wind me up (let me go) by Cliff Richard, As you all know I&
#39;m a really big Cliff fan, well, this is the one that started it all off!!, I was 11 when my friend (also a big Cliff fan) played this to me, although Cliff had been around a long time I'd never really taken a lot of notice of him until I met my friend who had been a fan since she was about 5!!! She played this to me and I thought WOW!!! what a song!!! what a voice!!! from that moment on I was hooked, Cliff has been my hero, my life, ever since. 10: The last kiss by David Cassidy, David Cassidy disappeared from the music scene in 1975, but came back in 1985 with this, I coudn't believe it, still as gorgeous as ever and still singing so brilliantly, this record was just magic, he sang it so lovely, with such lovely lyrics, it reached no.6 in the charts, unfortunatly he went on to release one other single which only reached no.54(romance) and he gave up altogether after that. shame!!! Well I hope you enjoyed reading all about my choice of records, they may not be to everybodys taste but thats what I like!!
