Advantages: All the songs maybe??
Disadvantages: nope
I found it hard to cut down my top ten favourite songs into a list of ten and also found it hard to position them in order, aside from the first two. So this list may well not be my ten favourite songs of all time but it is certainly close. Here we go: 10) Don’t look back in anger – Oasis Although they’re a bunch of prats, Oasis definitely have produced some brilliant music over the last 6 or 7 years. Probably their 2 most famous songs are both included in this top ten and this song is great. Everyone who has heard it will know how good it is, with great lyrics and excellent vocals. Even if Oasis are a bit stale now, this song will always be a classic. 9) Bat out of hell – meat loaf I love this song simply for the emotion meat loaf puts into the singing. You can tell he wrote it from his heart and it is a classic rock song –great guitar and drum solos as well as a brilliant singer. 8) Wonderwall – Oasis Undoubtedly their most famous song, the lads from Manchester produced another classic when they wrote this baby. The lyrics are great and as everyone knows, it is just an all-round great song, which makes me feel great every time I hear it. 7) Hey Jude – The Beatles The first of two songs from these guys in my list. Nearly every song they made was a cracker and it was hard to only choose two. But this one stands out and is many people’s favourite Beatles song. Lennon and Macartney’s genius is clearly evident in this song, from the lyrics to the vocals to the music itself. Macartney’s voice is very well suited to this song and I can see why so many people love it. 6) Cat’s in the cradle – Guns ‘n’ roses So many people have covered this song, but my favourite version is by Guns ‘n’ roses, although the original by (I think) Harry Chapin is close. Axl Rose’s voice really made this song brilliant but it̵
7;s the lyrics about a son and his father which I love. Any guns ‘n’ roses fan should definitely hear this. 5) Hotel California – The Eagles I don’t know much about the Eagles and I haven’t heard much of their work but this song cannot be described as anything other than amazing. I’ve been told it is not like other Eagles songs but it still has country rock elements in it and the guitars are brilliant. I love hearing this song and look forward to hearing some other Eagles work. 4) Let it be – The Beatles My favourite Beatles song was recently voted the best song ever in a radio countdown. Although I think it is an outstanding song it is certainly not the best ever! Again it’s Lennon and Macartney who made this the song it is. Brilliant lyrics and vocals stand out against anything else this song has and is the most soothing song I have ever heard. 3) Stairway to Heaven – Led Zeppelin This masterpiece of rock music should be in every top ten and it is only number 3 in mine because of the wonder of the two songs above it. This song is so good it is hard to describe. It is the best guitar playing ever and the lyrics thrill me. If you have not heard this song, you have not lived. =1) Paranoid Android – Radiohead This song is joint top as I just could not decide which was better and it would be unfair to say one was a better song. Both are masterpieces, as is Stairway to heaven, and I couldn’t decide between the two, it would be an impossible task. This is just one of many Radiohead songs which I wanted to put in my list but since I could make a whole list from just Radiohead songs I limited myself to one. This song is probably the finest 6 minutes of music ever created, it and my other number 1 being as close to musical perfection as is possible. Everything about this song is breathtaking, the music, the lyrics, Thom Yorke’s amazing vocals, and even
the video is brilliant. It culminates with a brilliant finish and is just too good to describe with mere words. The biggest injustice ever committed is that this song was kept off the number one spot in the UK chart by MMMBOP! The worst song ever made blocking the best, is that ironic or what? =1) Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen Of course, how could it not be number one? Words cannot describe how good this song is, and the one which does come to mind every time I hear it is GENIUS, and Freddie Mercury’s genius at that. Queen are one of my favourite bands and this song is their best piece. Again, everything about it is amazing, the music, a brilliant combination of rock and opera, which only Queen and Freddie could have pulled off, the vocals, Freddie at his best, and of course, the lyrics, so unbelievably brilliant as to be out of this world. Wow! That’s all I can say. It excites me just to read this list and see son many classic songs together on one page. I have run out of superlatives to describe them, so I’ll leave you to wonder at them yourselves.

- 18/03/01 Good op, Personally I like people like the Spice Girls, All Saints, The Corrs, Jennifer Lopez and destiny's Child, although I understand that different people have different tastes, I still enjoyed reading your op and seeing what you liked about the songs, christophene |
