I thought I would really struggle with this op. I knew I had a couple of all time favourite tracks but when I actually got to writing this list, I couldnt stop! Also, I thought this category was looking a little thin on the ground and decided I'd plump it up a little!! So anyway, there are a few stragglers at the end; those unfortunate blighters that didnt quite make it although were worthy of a mention.

I am sure this list wont be to everyones liking; after all, my school lunchtimes mainly consisted of making up dance routines in the school hall to Bros and Brother Beyond songs!!! Suffice to say, to save myself complete embarrassment I have omitted them from the list but they were great tunes at the time!

My favourites tend to consist of ballads or soul tunes but there are a few hip-swingers in between. Theyre also not in any particular order, apart from No 1 - confused?! I hope you like!

Radiohead - Talk Show Host (specifically from the Romeo and Juliet Soundtrack).
I wouldnt class Radiohead as a favourite band in any shape or form but R&J is one of my favourite films and this tune is a very prominent part of it. Its so moody and provocative - a little like myself!! "I want to, I want to be someone else or Ill explode. Floating upon the surface for the birds, the birds, the birds...!" Make of it what you will but nevertheless its a great track!

Nickelback - How U Remind Me (Silverside Up)
I think this must be awarded the title of undisputed Kind of Tracks for 2002, thus far. Its been hugely successful, from a band that I hadnt even heard of prior to this track. I could listen to this for hours on end and indeed I did when I first bought it. I am sure the first words Rachel will utter when she eventually starts talking will be "Ive been wrong, Ive been down, into the bottom of every bottle". That could be quite worrying come nursery time!!! I havent bought the album, Silverside Up
, as I am aware this track is the closest theyll ever come to a ballad. They are just a little too hard rock for me, sadly.

Lightning Seeds - Waiting for Today To Happen (Very Best of Lightning Seeds)
I am a huge fan of ER, especially during the George Clooney era. Before Georges big exit, trailors were shown during most satellite adverts to advertise the coming episodes and the track which accompanied these trailors was, yes you guessed it you brainy little devil!! My hubby and I didnt know what it was at the time but figured out who the song was by, and so we went on a mad hunt to try and track it down. When we eventually did, on the Very Best of The Lightning Seeds Album, we played it for hours on end, at full blast to the annoyance of our neighbours. But we were living in Salford at the time so we didnt really care!!

Fat Boy Slim - Funk Soul Brother (The Rockafeller Skank).
Weapon of Choice could have easily shot FSB off its pedestal, but it didnt quite have the right ammo...sorry! Anyway, I had to choose between the two and FSB makes me swing my hips a little harder. This makes me think of hot sunny days in the car with the windows down and the stereo blasting out this hit. It was just so...funky! There are no emotional ties to this song, its just one that I always enjoy, each time I hear it.

Sade - By Your Side (Album: Lovers Rock)
Now then, this has to be my second favourite track of all time. I am a self-confessed soppy ballad princess I am afraid and this song just does it for me, in so many ways! I could lock myself in a darkened room with this song playing over and over and I wouldnt come out for days. "You think I'd leave your side baby, you know me better than that. You think Id leave you down when you're down on your knees, I wouldnt do that." Soppy I know, but you cant fail but to be affected by its musical spell. This track will stay with me forever.

Warren G - Regulate
.
The lyrics are about gang warfare but the song itself reminds me of summertime in the prime of my life, with the love of my life. This song is his favourite of all time, but although its good I wouldn't go quite that far. This has made a welcome return to MTV Base over the last couple of weeks, and is what prompted me to start writing this op.

Al Green - Lets Stay Together, 1971
Good ol Ally McBeal for reviving Al Green! Sadly the show has come to an end, but luckily Al's music lives on. Whilst on a bargain hunt in my local ASDA recently I came across the Greatest Hits of Al Green album for a fiver! Woo-hoo! This too is close to being my favourite track of all time. Whenever I am feeling a little low or the kids (thats my daughter Rachel and my husband Steve!!) are driving me mad, I can put this track on safe in the knowledge that everything in my world is as it should be. It makes me dance around the kitchen, swaying my hips to the soulful tones as I'm chopping carrots! What a sight eh? A definite feel-good song.

New Order - Round and Round
I dont like New Order as a rule (sorry!) but was introduced to this track by Steve and I'm very grateful to him for it. This again, is one that I have to play at full blast and it has to be the full length version, including the instrumental in the middle and at the end. Steve used to think it was great that during the instrumental, the sound darted from speaker to speaker; I think he may have been drunk at the time. But I was listening to this over the internet the other day and it definitely still sounds as good as it did when I first heard it.

Sting - Every Breath You Take.
Yey, my number one favourite track of all time. Sting is one of my favourite artists ever and I could have added so many of his tracks to my top ten but I resisted temptation. These include Fields of Gold, Englishman in New York, Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot, Roxanne, to name but a
few. This is a beautiful, heart warming ballad, which actually makes me think of my mother in law, who passed away a year ago this month after suffering with lung cancer. "Every breath you take. Every move you make. Every bond you break, Every step you take, I'll be watching you." Simply stunning.

Well, thats it folks. Some that really should have been on the list but that there just wasn't room for include Percy Sledge-Sitting on the dock of the bay, Blue-Best in Me (yes thats right, Blue; dont judge me until youve heard it!), Al Green Tired of Being Alone, Phil Collins-In Too Deep and Hold on My Heart, and Santana-Smooth. I hope you agreed with at least one of these or I will be very disappointed! Thanks for reading x
