Hehehehehehe, I like reviews like this, they are quite easy to do and the imagination comes into play as you reminisce of days gone by as you sat by the wireless as Winston gave his infamous speech about fighting them on the beaches, fighting them on the shores, and how we will never surrender. So, anyone who likes history can look away now, because this review is simply my top 10 singles of all time. Now, anyone on this excellent site that knows anything about me will know I am a die hard metal fan, especially a certain Metallica, but this review could stir a few eye brows as I take a trip back down the road to my childhood. So, anyways, enough of that, read on, I hope you enjoy! I think that just for a change I will go in reverse order, makes a bit of a change from my normal layout for these things. 10/ Hmmmm, much pondering, I think I would go with a certain song by one of the worlds smaller stars of the 80s, and go with Michael Jackson's Bad. This song was a particular favourite when I got the album, bearing in mind that Bad was the first album I ever had bought for me, and was only a tape. That was at the time when it was only a favourite of the time. It was when I first saw the Michael Jackson film Moonwalker that this song really hooked me, the scene where the kids dance in the subway had me in hysterics, silly I know, but a great song none the less! 9/ What do I think comes next, geeee, this is more difficult than I thought it would be, so many good songs to choose from, but I am only allowed 10 grrrr. In that case I think it will have to be Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, my girlfriend will kill me for that because she is an avid Queen fan, and she hates this song, but I have loved it ever since I first saw Wayne?s world, a film that I think people will now naturally assume I like, because it managed to work it's way into my top 10 films aswell, let's just say "schwing". This is also the song tha
t got one of the biggest rock bands their first number 1 in the UK, so it has to find it's way into my top 10 somehow. 8/ Again, this is a difficult choice for me, I think I will choose another Michael Jackson, some people reading this are now thinking to themselves how the hell has he turned into such a metal nut hehehe. The answer is simple, I have older brothers who corrupted me at an early age, and a dad who likes classic rock, although Michael Jackson was my childhood hero, the guy could sing, he could dance, and he had an afro, what more could you want? Thriller is the song, and it is off the album that went on to become the biggest selling album of all time, which is an achievement of great stature considering that he has beaten albums such as the Beatles Sgt Peppers. 7/ This is getting difficult, I think it is time to have some good old school rock, and what better way to introduce it than with meat loaf, bat out of hell. Hehehehe, welcome to the old school, scuse the pun, but when it comes to this song, I am "a real dead ringer" for it, classic song I must say. 6/ I feel that another rock song is in order to even the balance a little bit, so I think I will have to give in to the temptation and place a Metallica song in here, so I will use what I class as one of the godfathers of old school heavy metal, and use a song off the Kill Em All album, it has got to be the Four Horsemen. The song describes itself, and as far as me liking it is concerned, that is an understatement. You want power, speed and aggression, this song quite frankly just has balls. Although I was introduced to Metallica about 5 or 6 years ago, it is only really the last 3 years that I have really gotten into them, and boy have I become a fan in a big way! 5/ I think I will add a bit of spice now, I think this is the right place to add in Guns 'N' Roses Sweet Child Of Mine. This is a song I have definitely loved for abo
ut 9 years, ever since I first heard it I got goosebumps right down my spine just from the amazing guitar riffs in it. Fantastic track, shame the lead singer was such an idiot, otherwise maybe they would have gone on to become one of the true legends of the industry, they had the talent afterall. 4/ The Indy scene is one that really put me on track to becoming a metal fan, and it was largely Blur that did that for me. Te song I would say that really got me into Blur was parklife, the cheeky cockney Damon Albarn and his mob doing their thing, the video made me laugh loads when I first saw it, but the song just rocked, this slot would often have been taken by song 2, but that is a song that everyone thinks of already, so I chose the one that I always think of when I think Blur! 3/ Back to the old school with this one, I have always and will always love Motorhead's Ace of Spades. I always seem to think of this song when I go out mountain biking and I am contemplating doing something incredibly stupid, like big drops and stuff, I always have the words "do you like to gamble....." going through my head, it is a good way of psyching myself up more often than not! 2/ Iron Maiden have become quite a highly ranked band on my play list of late, and I suppose this is cheating a little bit, but the live version of Aces High, this is for the simple reason (You will see a connection with the introduction of this review in a second) that is is started with the Churchill speech that he gave over the wireless at the beginning of world war 2. I just think that even though it is a great song already, and it hasn't been released as a single in it's live form, the speech really sets the song in good stead. Any patriotic British person, like me, will get goosebumps just hearing the speech! 1/ Well well well, what can I say, it was inevitable really was it not, that Metallica would be at the number 1 slot. I will stick to
the rules however, and use For Whom The Bell Tolls for the song, it has been a proper single, and I do love the song, so it is definitely justified in it's presence. The song just has sheer old school grunt, and is a true metal classic. Not many compilations can afford Metallica because of their sheer size, but when the greatest air guitars album was put together, this song was on it, which in itself goes to show the magnitude of what is a relatively unknown song by today's standards. Anyways, thank you for reading this review, as always with these types of reviews, it has been fun writing. I hope it has been fun to read.
