Newest Review: ... first throat then let the body slide down a chute to be used in Mrs.Lovett's pie shop ("These have gotta be the woooorst pies in London!!") I was hooked line and sinker! I love the music, I love the bleakness, the very macabre humour and the whole grisly notion of Todd's victims being made into pies and for this reason it is my favourite musical of ALL time.....whether you enjoy the original stage presentation or the recent film remake, this is a musical that has leaves no holds barred. 2) LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. Probably the third musical I ever saw, this is again a dark, comic tale but this time featuring a flesh-eating plant c... more

Despite a very common misconception, you don't actually have to be gay to like musicals; contrary to belief it is not written in law! Neither do you have to be a woman, ever-so-slightly-over-the-top-camp, a complete saddo or one of them "theatre types" who also like ballet- and lets be honest, who REALLY likes ballet? My first experience of a musical was West Side Story; a modern take on Shakespere's Romeo and Juliet and a favourite of my mums. Needless to say I was less than impressed, especially when we had to sit through it in installments in my music lessons at school, and that paticular show doesn't make my top 5!! What does make my top 5 ...  Read the complete review

Having been part of a show choir when I was younger I have sung many songs from musicals, and I do love to watch a musical but as my husband can't stand them it's not something I get to do very often! My top 5 probably changes depending which ones I have seen most recently so this is what they are at the moment!! 1. Les Miserables I've seen this 3 times in the West End now, watched the film a few times and I'd still go back and see it again and again. I love the music/songs in this, there are numerous songs I've performed and love to sing. The stage show is breathtaking. Based on the novel by Victor Hugo this was produced for the stage by ...  Read the complete review

I love musicals. There I've said it so its official!!! I can understand why some people don't, it can be off-putting when characters burst into song for no apparent reason, but that curse is also its blessing!! Why not burst into song for no reason. Maybe the world would be a better place if we all did it every now and then!! Anyway, here we are my top 5. Calamity Jane The first time I saw this film was as a child at my grandparents house. My grandad really reminded me of Howard Keel and this could be why I think of it so fondly. However, I challenge you not to tap along with the songs and not to have a lump in your throat as Doris Day belts out 'Secret ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review My all time favourite musicals (1048 words)

Grease Grease is my favourite, number one musical of all time. I first watched this on the television when I was 8 years old, so in 1984. It is a love story based around two characters called Danny Zuko and Sandy. Danny is the lead member of a gang called the T Birds, the T Birds are very cool and can only be seen with the coolest 'chicks' on their arm. Sandy has transferred to Rydell High from Australia, she is very prim and proper, Danny fell in love with her during the summer whilst on holiday and was then very surprised to see that she started at the same school. The film goes on to show them having their ups and downs and tells the stories of the other T ...  Read the complete review

As a huge musicals fan, finding this category was like a dream come true for me. Well, all apart from one minor detail - I can't choose five! So here we go with my top 10 musicals... but feel free to stop reading after five if you want to! These are in a very vague order of preference, but this is subject to change. As you can probably tell by the fact I've doubled the allotted number of musicals, I'm quite indecisive. Jerry Springer - The Opera --------------------------------- I'm a huge fan of this musical. Despite its terrible screening on BBC2, which drew protests from outraged Daily Mail readers up and down the country, and more ...  Read the complete review
