Kazziee Kazziee I love Lord of The Rings, and Harry Potter can keep my 13 year old brother quiet for hours so I am full of praise for J.K Rowling! Great op, K x 27/04/03
Knor Knor Great op. some excellent choices in there! 21/06/02
Ophelia Ophelia Well deserved crown. It was a sad day when Douglas Adams passed on. 12/06/02
CARIAD_FACH CARIAD_FACH Unbelievable but true. i have only read one Pratchett novel and that was a collaberation. GOOD OMENS
Thank you for reading my op.

delawney delawney What a fantastic op - really detailed and well researched.

I loved "Tha Animals of Farthing Wood" as a kid, and had just about forgotton its existence. Thanks for reminding me!

I love Douglas Adams too, although I did meet him once at a book signing, and he must have been having a bad day coz he was well grumpy. Didn't spoil the book though!

writer29 writer29 I liked the structure of your op, the way you dealt with 10th position. My top ten would be totally different to yours mind you and would include John Grisham and Dean Koontz, but hey, that's how it is. Nice op, thanks.

jamesdean1981 jamesdean1981 Great op, although there's a few there I could never really get into (Adams and Dann, especially) The IT quote is one of my favourites from Discworld, as well :-) 12/10/01
defiler defiler Soul Music is among my favourites but I wasn't that keen on the colour of magic, probably one of the worst discworld books in my opinion. Douglas Adams is probably as good as Pratchett but Pratchett has given me far more books that I enjoy and I prefer the fantasy setting. 11/10/01
R_Easton R_Easton I agree mostly but I thing Douglas Adams would have been my top. 11/10/01
ILoveJackDaniels ILoveJackDaniels I love the Discworld series - some of the greatest books ever written. Naturally I totally disagree with which ones are the best - although Men at Arms is in my top 3. I reckon Soul Music (just for Death on the motorbike) and the COlour of Magic are his best :)
A great op!

donnaford donnaford Well I cant really argue with your top 10 because I havent heard of most of them (and I have studied English & American Lit at degree level LOL). As long as you enjoy them :) 28/09/01
JEHodgson JEHodgson Great op- lots of very good authors there- I won't go into detail about why I think x should actualy be ahead of y and so on! Thankyou thankyou for the hhgttg link for the game. I always regretted that I couldn't play it when it came out!

curly00 curly00 Wow, excellent op. *Crown* 24/09/01
Kool_Beans_1 Kool_Beans_1 Hmmmm...thanks for the ideas of some novels I need to read. I find that I tend to stick to more classical novels...but I have to say that I have read some of the authors in your op and I agree with your placements of them :) Good op. I'll have to stop by your profile and read some more some other night.

LostAngel LostAngel A pleasure to read! Loved the selected qoutes esp from 'Lords and ladies' and 'Good omens'. Thanks Andrew. 23/09/01
defiler defiler I know I'd rather read Terry Pratchett than something I'd written :) 23/09/01
MichelleScott MichelleScott Not that they were any better written than your own words, of course! 23/09/01
MichelleScott MichelleScott Excellent op. Enjoyed this immensely, especially the Terry Pratchet quotes. 23/09/01
defiler defiler Lot's of people seemed to guess that, not sure how... :) 23/09/01
defiler defiler @karenuk Everyone should :)
@avitally sorry, have one now :)
@x_elff_x Which one? :)
22/09/01
x_elff_x x_elff_x Wow is right. Loved reading that, and in particular the gag at the end, I'll be chuckling about that all day now :o) 22/09/01
karenuk karenuk Excellent title! I love Pratchett too. 22/09/01
defiler defiler Not read too much Stephen King but I do like what I have read, just not enough to make my list other than a quick mention. There's only one other opinion in this category though, I take it you mean Top 10 books? (although the other opinion in this category does have Stephen King in it). 22/09/01
Smark1985 Smark1985 Lovely to see Colin "Animals of Farthing Wood" get a well deserved mention. Lol, how'd I guess Pratchett would be top?!

Possibly one of the few ops on this category I've read that do not have Stephen King in!

Smark.

defiler defiler I really do use too many :)'s don't I... 22/09/01
defiler defiler Didn't expect this many comments when I got back :)
@Skybly - I was just about to rush off and buy the alternate versions before you spoiled it :(
@avitally - Maybe she doesn't deserve to be in the list any more than some of the others but she has written 4 books that I've really enjoyed which is more than most other authors have.
@The Solid Grey - Will update that, though I tend to say shown even if I mean heard :)
And to everyone else thanks for all the nice comments :)

northernlight northernlight Amazingly I have read all your top 9 and most of the tenth so I can't fault your taste. Very thorough and deserves a crown. 22/09/01
The+Solid+Grey The Solid Grey good op glad you mentioned douglas adams, one thiong the radio version being 'shown' on the radio? 22/09/01
jillmurphy jillmurphy Wow too. And phew! ;) 22/09/01
Atchoo Atchoo Fantastic op. The only one I disagree with is JK Rowling- the rest (incl. 10) constitute most of my top 10 authors. 22/09/01
Skybly Skybly Then again, they might just have less colourful covers :) 21/09/01
Skybly Skybly The adult versions of the Harry Potter books of course contain lots of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. 21/09/01
Trevor15 Trevor15 An epic. And a great one at that. It's always interesting to see what other people like - and why. Top stuff! 21/09/01
