A reason I love these films.

I love a film with good lines and they are always the most rememerable ones too. I watch so many films but there some good lines, here are my top ten!

      10. 'Here's Johnny!' -
The Shining. Jack Nicholson's face scares me in this, he is the king of facial expressions! I love scaring people with his face except I wouldn't say 'Here's Johnny' but 'here's Geo..'

      9. The opening monolouge in Love Actually.
It relates to how we describe love and how love is not just boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, I have always loved it.

      8. 'The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return'
Moulin Rouge. Its one of my favorite film, and I just love this quote a little too much.

      7. The 10 things I hate about you poem.
Can't explain how much I love it and it is one of my favorite poems too.

      6. 'I'm just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love me'
Notting Hill. Great line, Great British film.

      5. 'A real looser is so afraid of not winning, they don't even try'
Little Miss Sunshine, so true. I fell in love with this quote.

      4. 'Only exists in my memory'
Titanic. This broke my heart its so sad. But she will always remember him even as an 100 year old lady, so sweet, it is really sweet when she says it too.

      3. 'Quite Frankly My Dear I don't give a Damm.'
Gone with the Wind. It's a great line, one of the best film lines let's admit it.

      2. 'There's no place like home.'
Wizard of Oz. True, home is where the heart is.

      1. 'Tomorrow's another day...'
Gone with the Wind. One of the greatest lines, no matter if you lost everything, your world is falling appart tomorrow is another day and it will be alright in the end.

great lines to use in conversations with friends.

I love a good film , and when i watch them i do tend to pick up a few lines from them and if I've found really funny will replay the scene in my head and giggle out loud or if they are extremely funny and i can use them in real life situations i will ,
So on with the subject, and my favourite movie quotes.

My first one comes from the film called the "Sweetest Thing" staring Cameron Diaz and Christine Applegate,
They are in the the changing rooms and Cameron Diaz is in a bikini and is going on about gravity effecting her boobs , so she says stuff about them being perky at 22 and lifts her arms , and when she drops them to her side she says 28 and her boobs droop when her arms are down so the first quote although small is funny with the film scene.

      1, The quote by Cameron Diaz .....22 28 i

My Second chosen one come from Scarface , when in they all come to get Al Pachino and he stands there with his gun ready for combat and he says....

2, The quote by Al Pachino ...... Say hello to my little friend .. (he then fires his gun)

My third is from the Clint Eastwood film where Clint is in his truck and the orangutan is with him and they come face to face with the Black widows at a stop sign in "Any which way you can"
and Clint turns to the orangutan and says

3, The quote by Clint Eastwood ... Right Turn Clyde, (he then does this and knock them all over)

The Forth quote i have to add has to come from the " The Shining" where the woman has locked herself in the bathroom and Jack Nicholson had turned loop the loop and starts smashing down the door with an axe, the woman screams and begs for him to stop but he continues with the axe till he gets a hole in the door big enough for his head and he pops it through with a menacing look on his face and says .....

4, The quote by jack Nicholson ..... "Here's Johnny" in fact the best part of the film and funny too)

5, This quote was a must have for me it is from "When Harry met Sally" and they are in the cafe and Sally is having her fake orgasms just after she has finished screaming "oh yes oh yes " at was some kind of the top of her voice for all to hear , a woman , whom was some kind of extra turns to the waiter and says ....

5, The quote by unknown ...." I will have some of what she is having" (a classic line )

As for my sixth favourite quote i will have to look at Samuel L. Jackson and Eugene Levy when they starred together in the film "The Man" Samuel L. Jackson , plays a very disgruntled hard faced cope while Eugene Levy is a sales man for a dental firm, who both end up together to try and catch the gang whom lead a fire arm ring. The part is when surrounded by the police and they seem to think Samual l.Jackson is a crook , he gets out the car and demands they run his "Plates" after proving who he is he gets back in the car and says .......

6, The quote by Samuel L .Jackson .... "That was fun" ( he looked as though he did not care)

For my seventh Im opting for the 1939 classic of " Gone with the wind " When Rett Butler decides to leave , and go back to Charleston, after Scarlet trying to persuade him to take her with him, at the door as he is leaving he turns to her and says .....

7, The quote by Clark Gable ... ".Frankly my dear i don't give a Damn",( this quote is so old I'm sure most people would of said it at sometime in there life.)

My eighth quote comes form Adam Sandlers film called " Happy Gilmore" Where he is tee-ing up to drop a golf ball in to its hole and he is ranting about it going home in fact pleading for it to go home ,in saying this he means for the golf ball to go in the hole, anyway he misses and says ....

8, The quote by Adam Sandler ..... " Suck my white bum ball" he does not say "Bum" in the film but I'm being correct and putting a less offensive word , but in the context of the film it is really funny.

My ninth is from the film " Heartbreak Kid" starring Ben Stiller and Malin Akerman and they are sat at a cafe table and Ben Stiller is trying his best to end his marriage and tell her it is all over when four Mexicans approach the table and start playing , Ben Stiller tells them to stop and go away before he stands and says ...

9, The quote by Ben Stiller ... stop with the der der der der der der , its hard to explain but if you have seen the film you will understand , i found this to be so funny i had to rewind it over and over to watch again,

My final choice has been hard as i would of liked to of added more but finally chose to go with
Ricky Gervais in the film "Ghost Town" he is ready to go in to hospital and has to answer loads of questions given to him by the receptionist concerning his routine and name and address etc and he starts to get annoyed and he turns to the woman and says .....

10 The quote by Rickey Gervais ,,,, " Sorry you babbling idiot , can we talk about my bowels"
I think he is talented and he has loads of quotes i would of like to off added but I do not think it would ever end if i started !!!

Well there we go those are the ten that stick in my head the most , i just hope some of you will agree with some of them , some of the quotes as i said i do use and the last one Ricky Gervais is good to use when people start to bore you !!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Read them all, let me know if you agree

I love a good film and have a soft spot for those cliches moments that you know will become catchphrases the world over! Anyway, I have listed below my top ten favourite all time quotes in no particular order:

      1. "You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? Well, who the hell else are you talkin' to? You talkin' to me? Well, I'm the only one here. Who the f--k do you think you're talkin' to?" Good old Travis Bickle going insane in Taxi Driver (probably one of the best films of all time too)

      2. "Henry Hill (Ray Liotta): You're a pistol, you're really funny. You're really funny.
Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci): What do you mean I'm funny?
Henry Hill: It's funny, you know. It's a good story, it's funny, you're a funny guy.
      [laughs]
Tommy DeVito: what do you mean, you mean the way I talk? What?
Henry Hill: It's just, you know. You're just funny, it's... funny, the way you tell the story and everything.
Tommy DeVito: [it becomes quiet] Funny how? What's funny about it?
Anthony Stabile: Tommy no, You got it all wrong.
Tommy DeVito: Oh, oh, Anthony. He's a big boy, he knows what he said. What did ya say? Funny how?
      Henry Hill: Jus...
      Tommy DeVito: What?
Henry Hill: Just... ya know... you're funny.
Tommy DeVito: You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little fucked up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to fuckin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?
Henry Hill: Just... you know, how you tell the story, what?
Tommy DeVito: No, no, I don't know, you said it. How do I know? You said I'm funny. How the fuck am I funny, what the fuck is so funny about me? Tell me, tell me what's funny!
Henry Hill: [long pause] Get the fuck out of here, Tommy!
Tommy DeVito: [everyone laughs] Ya motherfucker! I almost had him, I almost had him. Ya stuttering prick ya. Frankie, was he shaking? I wonder about you sometimes, Henry. You may fold under questioning!" A truly scary moment, when I actually feared for Ray Liotta! Joe Pesci may be a little guy, but boy is he scary. Sorry it is a long quote, but you need the whole lot to appreciate the moment!

      3. "Colonel Jessep (Jack Nicholson): You want answers Kaffee (Tom Cruise): I want the truth.Jessep: You can't handle the truth." A memorable scene in A few good men. But check out Tom Cruise's teeth in this movie....

      4. "Go ahead, make my day" It just would not have been right to do a best quotes without Clints immortal words from Sudden Impact.

      5. "E.T. phone home". The best children's film ever deservs a mention for the quote that spawned a million TV ads.

      6. "A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti." More for the sucking noise Anthony Hopkins makes after, but still, a creepy quote again! Silence of the Lambs is a fantastic film.

      7. "Show me the money!"In times of recession I feel like shouting this down the phone in work a lot too! Jerry Maguire gets to work.

      8. "Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."I like this quote, because I think it is pretty accurate! Forrest does the talking, we all do the listening. Great film, great actor, great quote.

      9. "Mrs. Robinson, you're trying to seduce me. Aren't you?" The dream of every young man....the Graduate and thesexy charms of Mrs Robinson sure do work on Dustin!

      10. Striker: "Surely you can't be serious!" Rumack: "I am serious... and don't call me Shirley." Airplane, comic genius. I actually could have just had a top 100 quotes from Airplane instead! Brilliant

Just can't believe how time flies!

Here's my list of top 10 quotes from the movies. Some of them are from my personal favourite films, some I've included because they're so outrageously famous no list should be complete without them.

        Drum roll please!

        10. "Play it Sam. Play 'As Time Goes By'". The original quote from Casablanca. Surely one of the most misquoted quotes from any film. Not to be confused with the "Play it again Sam" Woody Allen film from 1972.

        9. "Nobody puts Baby in the corner" ~ Dirty Dancing (1987). Were people actually paid to write babble like that? A film you either love or hate. Personally thought it one of the worst films of the '80's but the lead song was catchy.

8 "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!" ~ Gone With The Wind (1939). This is a film I've never even seen, and probably never will, but worthy of this list anyhow.

        7. "Here's Johnny!"~ The Shining (1980). Just picture if you will Jack Nicholson's face poking through the bathroom door in the Overlook Hotel. To me, this is one of the single most memorable images of a film I have. One of the best films of it's genre, and also one of Jack's best performances.

        6. "You're goddamn right I did!" ~ A Few Good Men (1992). Another fine Jack moment, this time when under oath at the military trial.

        5. "You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? Then who the hell else are you talking... you talking to me? Well I'm the only one here." ~ Taxi Driver (1976). De Niro talking to a mirror, back in the day when he made first class films.

        4. "Free at last, free at last!" ~ Carlito's Way (1993). One of my favourite Pacino films.

        3. "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" ~ The Italian Job (1969). This had both Michael Caine and Benny Hill, what more could you want?. Ignore the lame copy from 2003.

        2. "Attica, Attica, Attica!" ~ Dog Day Afternoon (1975). Another favourite Pacino film, this time when he's getting the crowds whipped up over police brutality.

1 "You're gonna need a bigger boat!" ~ Jaws (1975). And didn't they just! Still a cracking film, even though the shark itself looks risible now. The scene on the creaky boat with Robert Shaw recounting his WWII experience at sea to Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss is a classic. Thanks to Spielberg, I keep my eyes peeled even at Brighton.

My top ten movie quotes. Hope they made you laugh to!

Don't you just love them movie quotes that stay with you for years up on years, when you can say them and still laugh! Well heres my top ten movie quotes!

"Ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light?" - (Batman) Batman

This is one my favourites because since its came out we've said it in my family for years, I always thought it was part of some song until i watched the film a few years ago and found that it was in the film! I think my mam even said it to me today, don't know why they started saying but they started making me say it! =)

"Mother is God in the eyes of a child" - (Cybil) Silent Hill

I think maybe I've heard this before as it sounds familiar, but dont know where. I think this quote is quite touching, and goes quite well with films like that. I just generally like quotes like this.

''im sorry wendy but i just dont trust anything that bleeds for 5 days and doesn't die'' (Mr Garison) South Park the Movie

This quote is just too hilarious NOT to put down! But in a way i find it quite....true!! LOL! I love south park.

"Without evil there could be no good, so it must be good to be evil sometimes." (Satan) South Park

Another south park quote and another in some what a true wierd quote! How else would you identify good if there was no evil? South park the movie (and series) is loved between all my friends and me, we say random things from there that make us laugh quite alot!

          "Heeeeeres Johnny" (Johnny) The Shining

If you dont know the quote fromt the film and simpson fan will know it from there from a tree house of horrors. Said when he is startng to go crazy on the way to kill his wife and kid. My dad seems to say this quite alot even though his name is dave...? lol it makes me laugh.

"Come with me if you want to live" (Terminator) Terminator 2

A classic, surely everyone knows this quote even if they havent watched the film. I chose this just simply coz it is a classic, and great quote!

"There can only be one!" Highlander

Im pretty sure its said by various characters, i good quote from a good film. Of course another quote that is said qiute alot in my family and with my friends actually, basically all my quotes are ones that make me laugh and remind me of stuff. In the film they mainly say this when there about to fight or fighting.

"My Mama always said, 'Life was like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're gonna get.'"(Forest Gump) Forest Gump

Another amazing quote from another amazing film. Firstly i just enjoy saying this quote the way he does, at least i try to say it. The quote is quite true, unless you know what box of chocolates your gunna get, or at least read whats inside...

"For Frith Sake!" (about every character) Watership down

Frith is the rabbits God, so they basically replaced God with Frith, and now, sadly enough, my family has also pretty much half the time we say it! And its a clever idea! ahha!

"According to the map we've only gone 4 inches." (Harry) Dumb and Dumber

Is hilarious!! Put it that simply! And still makes me laugh, there are a lot of great quotes in that film all through out.

So there you have it! My top 10 quotes

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Genius up there with Kubrik, Wells and Fellini

The advent of films with sound began a long tradition of cinema providing us with many memorable lines and quotes. From the "Frankly my dear I don't give a damn" from Gone With The Wind to Borat's "Wawaweewa" sayings and lines and from films have left lasting impressions upon us. Sometimes it's through the sheer intensity of delivery and quality of acting like in Brando's "I could've been a contender" in On the waterfront, and sometimes it's the comedic genius of someone like Woody Allen in lines such as Don't knock masturbation ... it's sex with someone I love. But there has been no one more consistent in the 80's and 90's for producing, in my cheesy little mind, the best film one liners, than Arnold Schwarzenegger.... and here are his top ten in no particular order.

            1) "Well I hope you left enough room for my fist because I'm going to ram it into your stomach and break your goddamn spine!" - From Running Man delivered with such poor acting it is bordering on genius.

            2) "Let off some steam, Bennett." - From Commando. Said whilst breaking a piece of piping from the wall and ramming through the bad guy Bennett into a steam vent... Genius

            3) "Hey Benny, SCREW YOU!" -from Total Recall- a classic Arnie cheese fest of a line said whilst ramming a drilling bit through Benny's cabin

            4) "Consider that our divorce" - Said as he killed his wife in Total Recall

            5) "He had to split" - Asked where Buzzsaw was in Running Man, Arnie had just used his chainsaw to circumsize the baddie. A gem from Running Man

            6) "Here is SubZero, Now Plain Zero" - Running man again. The iced themed baddie had just been 'iced' by Arnie (see what I did there?)

            7) "Don't disturb my friend, he's dead tired" - From Commando Arnie is explaining the limpness of the man he has just killed on the plane next to him.

            8) "If it bleeds we can kill it" - Predator this time, sort of sums Arnie up

            9) "Stick Around" - classic Arnie from Commando said whilst putting a knife through someone pinning them against the wall behind them

            10) "I'll be back" - what Arnie list could be complete without this simple but well known line. From Terminator. Arnie classic.

There's more profound, funnier and better delivered lines out there from many a better actor but when it comes to cheese, there is none cheesier and none finer than from the current Governor of California, the worlds 8th largest economy. (scary eh!?). Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger king of the cheesy film quotes and provider of this top ten list

Thanks for reading and hasta la vista

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

A bunch of memorable quotes from films!

This is quite a difficult one, and I'm not sure I can even put them in order, so as they come to me:

"You had me at hello" Renee Zellweger to Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire.

"And what exactly are your intentions towards my father?" In Jersey Girl when Ben Affleck's daughter catches him getting friendly with Liv Tyler, in a parody of his earlier question to the boy she bought over to the house.

Morgan Freeman/William Somerset: "This guy's methodical, exacting, and worst of all, patient."
Brad Pitt/David Mills: "He's a nut-bag! Just because the fucker's got a library card doesn't make him Yoda!" From Se7en (alternatively there is always "Whats in the box?!?!?!?")

John Travolta to Olivia Newton-John "Sandy??"
ON-J to J T "Tell me about it, stud!"
From Grease, Slutty Sandy when she shoes up at the fair.

              Ah, Pretty Woman:

              Vivian: You're late.
              Edward Lewis: You're stunning.
              Vivian: You're forgiven.

"I made a promise Mr Frodo, Don't you leave 'im Samwise Gamgee, and I don't intend to" Sam to Frodo in Lord Of The Rings.

Mac MacGuff: [a very pregnant Juno enters the room] Hey there, big puffy version of Junebug!
My all time film of 2007! Juno.

              Another Juno one...
"Su-Chin: [protesting in front of the abortion clinic] All babies want to get borned! All babies want to get borned! "

              Knocked Up:
Alison Scott: [to Debbie] What do you think? He's funny, right?
Ben Stone: [to Debbie's kids] Fetch!
Debbie: [to Alison] He's playing fetch... with my kids... he's treating my kids like they're dogs.

"Why so serious?" Heath Ledger as the joker.

                Woody Allen's humor for masses

On my endless wandering in search for something completely different I have stumbled upon web site with Woody Allen quotes. I watched a lot of his movies. Once I had a high regard for his work. Then I was disappointed with him. Now that everyone says that his latest work is a shadow of his early achievements I am discovering a new interest for everything with WA brand name. For the sake of this new flame for nonsensical and absurd world of Woody Allen here are his top 10 quotes chosen by me.

                10. My love life is terrible. The last time I was inside a woman was when I visited the Statue of Liberty.
                Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989)

Trademark WA quote - love, loser, cinicism - all this in 2 sentences.

                9. Don't knock masturbation -- it's sex with someone I love.
                Annie Hall (1977)

Sex life and all its variations - endless topic for Woody

                8. My brain: it's my second favorite organ.

                Love and Death (1975)

Death is in the title of this movie so you can find many similar lines in it.

                2. I think crime pays. The hours are good, you meet a lot of interesting people, you travel a lot.
Take the Money and Run (1969)

Always look at the bright side of life.

                1. I don't want to achieve immortality through my work; I want to achieve immortality through not dying. I don't want to live on in the hearts of my countrymen; I want to live on in my apartment.

Immortality is very high on the list of his obsessions. This one is not from the movie, I think, but it is a good one...

I hope my comments were not too long and didn't spoil your fun of reading few gems from Woody Allen. And don't worry - I am moving to something completely different in my next review.

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

If you haven't seen the films then why not?

I love films and tend to quote them quite a lot, sad I know but when it came down to choosing my top-ten favourite quotes I was stuck. I mean which ones to choose. The list that follows therefore is a mixture of quotes that have stuck in my head and I've changed the order of these a fair few times I can tell you. Some have done so because they are funny, others because they are poignant. They all have however for some reason or another stayed firmly in my head. So you may think my list is a little obscure but I like it J

I've done my list in reverse order 10 - 1 (got to keep you in suspense some how.

                  10/ "Tess: You're a thief and a liar.
Danny: I only lied about being a thief, I don't do that anymore.
                  Tess: Steal?
                  Danny: Lie."

From Ocean's Eleven. I just love this quote, I'm not sure why I just think it encompasses what the film is about to be honest and the way George Clooney delivers it does make it rather humorous.

                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9/ "I own the hotel, and I live there. My life is very much like Monopoly."

From the Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock film 'Two Weeks Notice'. I just love the film and this quote is something I always remember. The way Hugh Grant delivers this line, so deadpan always makes me laugh. So a brilliant line, delivered brilliantly from a brilliant film. What more do you want :):)

                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8/ "Houston we have a problem"

I mean everyone knows this. If you tell me you don't then you're lying. You must be. This line from Apollo 13 is something people tend to say without even realising it's from a film, it's that good. I love the film too which helps.

                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7/ "Will Turner: This is either madness... or brilliance.
Jack Sparrow: It's remarkable how often those two traits coincide."

From Pirates of the Caribbean. I love the film and there are so many humorous and memorable quotes in it. This one however is quite possibly my favourite maybe because it is so true to life. I mean how many times does someone call you mad for doing something and then later decide it was a brilliant idea, think about :)

                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6/ "How could I forget about you? You're the only person I know"

This is from the Bourne Identity and I think it is the one line that sums up the whole film. He's forgotten everything else so he can't forget her. I personally absolutely adore the film and I think this is one of the line that makes me feel so sorry for Bourne and so want to support him whatever I find out about him.

                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5/ "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"

This line is of course from the original Italian Job and is something that people whether they have seen the film or not (I haven't and keep meaning to). Proof just there I haven't seen the film but still know the quote. Why? Quite simply because of the way it was perfectly scripted and everyone knows how it was said. Now that's what you call a popular film quote.

                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4/ "You don't need a patch on your arm to have honour"

This is from A Few Good Men and is said by Tom Cruise's character a naval lawyer called Lt Kaffee. I like it because I think it can be applied to lots of things, that being honourable and having honour doesn't mean you have to have a badge that says you are so.

                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3/ "No matter how loud you shout, you will not drown out the voice of the people!"

This is from the 2006 film Amazing Grace and is said by William Wilberforce. Personally I don't think anything else needs to be said about the quote apart from the fact that it hits the nail right on the head.

                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2/ "All my life I always wanted to fly. I always wanted to live like a hawk. I know you're not supposed to be jealous of anything, but... to take flight, to soar above everything and everyone, now that's living. But a hawk is no good around normal birds. It can't fit in. Even though all the other birds probably wanna be hawks; they hate him for what they can't be. Proud. Powerful. Determined. Dark. Odin is a hawk. He soars above us. He can fly. One of these days, everyone's gonna pay attention to me. Because I'm gonna fly too."

This quote is from the film 'O' (2001) and is said by Josh Hartnett's character Hugo. I know this is a long 'quote' but I really like it. Half of this is said at the beginning of the film and I think that by repeating it at the end it really reiterates that all, this boy wants is to be recognised. It also shows how just because you want it 'to be a hawk' doesn't mean it's good for you.

                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now without a doubt this next quote is my favourite all time movie quote (it didn't move from the top spot at all when I was shuffling my order around). It's from the film Black Hawk Down and for some reason will always stay in my head.

1/ "Nobody asks to be a hero it just sometimes turns out that way"

This is said by Josh Hartnett's character Matt Eversmann and after a rather hectic and action packed film a poignant moment like this really stands out. To be fair a lot of the last few minutes is poignant and has great meaning but this is the line that always brings a lump to my throat. The lines that follow usually simply make me cry, and that's difficult, as Black Hawk Down is actually the only film I have ever cried at.

So there it is, my countdown from 10 to 1. I hope you liked it.

                    Advantages

                    Disadvantages

                    Make 'em laugh!

It is really hard to think of my Fav 10 movie quotes... But these are the ones that spring to mind -

                    1) Ace Venture: "If I'm not back in five minutes...just wait longer!"

I love this film and even now find it as funny as very, I personally felt that Jim Carrey got a little to much after being in several films and the same acting style became a little boring and hards to watch. However the 2 Ace Ventura films were classics and a fantastic introduction to Jim Carrey. Ever line is funny and fun, and the characters lovable.

                    2) Big Daddy: "Having a kid is great... as long as his eyes are closed and he's not moving or talking."

As a huge Adam Sandler fan it is hard to pick out just one quote - But Big Daddy is one of my favourite Adam Sandler films and this quote for anyone with or without kids is relatable. Kids can be adorable but they can also be a bloody nightmare!

                    3) Forrest Gump: "Mama always said life was like a box a chocolates, never know what you're gonna get."

If you say this line, everyone knows the film, actor and setting. Forrest sat on a bench with his box of chocolates. I believe any movie that produces a line that everyone knows and loves deserves to be a classed as a winner. Even if you don't like the film - you know the line!

                    4) Nancy: What ever you do, don't fall asleep!

A bit of Freddy - the biggest Baddest Nightmare of them all. When Freddy Kruger first came out I was quite a bit younger and not technically old enought to see it, but of course my mates and I managed to see it - and I have to admit I didn't sleep properly for weeks afterwards. Watching it now that seems silly - but the idea of a guy popping into you dreams and attacking you really was scary. This quote sums up the entire Nightmare on elm street series of films perfectly.

                    5) South Park: "Sorry kids, I just can't trust something that bleeds for five days and doesn't die. "

I like South Park any way but this quote by Mr Garrison about Woman is brilliant - it still makes me laugh no matter how many times I hear it. Matt Stone and Trey Parker are fantastic and whether it be inappropriate kids or crime fighting puppets their writing is original, and pure genuis - they have no problems exploring and making fun of all things.

                    6) Waynes World: "Garth, marriage is punishment for shoplifting in some countries!"

I love Waynes world and our introduction to the brilliance that is Mike Myers. It was either this quote of their interpretation of bohemian rhapsody (which unfortunately was a litte hard to include in this list). He has a point!

                    7) E.T.: "E.T. phone home".

A classic film, great for Adult and Children alike... I watched this when I was little and still watch it when it is on TV.

                    8) Jaws: "You're gonna need a bigger boat"

As you can see there are a lot of cheesy classics on my list. I loved jaws and even though it is cheesy and unrealistic, it is still a great film.

                    9) Fight Club: "The first rule of Fight Club is - you do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is - you DO NOT talk about Fight Club."

I loved fight club, one of Brad Pitts best performances (althought I haven't seen many). I love the psycology of this film and this quote is what the film is about... people that know the twist at the end should be able to see how this related to the entire theme of the movie.

                    10) Knocked Up: "Yeah, it's a cure-all. My buddy Jonah broke his elbow one time. He just smoked some weed. It still clicks, but it's cool."

A new film, a brilliant film. As you can see most of my Favourite quotes are from comedies, things that make me laugh are always a winner!

Good writing is a good movie

The only movie quotes I remember are the ones that everyone else remembers so you don’t want to hear those all over again. I’m not a first year student at a good university so I’m not going to start quote anything verbatim in a really loud voice, even after a few pints. And that includes ‘Withnail and I’! So I’m going to have to cheat a little and extract dialect from my favorite films that I recall had great quotes and dialogue. By using the IMDB movie database, ‘Quotes Alphabet’, I have cut n pasted the ones I remember the most that made me chuckle. My contribution is a little scene setting. I’m afraid there’s a dooyoo record for expletives to come, on Sunday to.

Shortbus is the naughtiest DVD on general release in this country, taking over from the far superior-intelligence wise-Yu Tu Mama Tambien. The script is by far the bitchiest and sassiest I have heard for a while.
This scene is set at the Shortbus nightclub, a hang-out for the young and beautiful Bohemian types of Manhattan, hypocritical and opinionated as you can get. Here, a middle aged transvestite called Justin comments to a new guest, like only he can, whilst both observe the orgy going on in front of them. The line sums up the movie.

Justin Bond: “These bitches sucking c*ck and eating ass... then they show up at the buffet and say they're vegan”

This is one of Britain’s finest cool dialogue led movies and a must see for all guys and girls that drink pints. Sir Ben Kinglsey gives a startlingly dark and unrecognizable performance as psychotic crime gang muscle, Don Logan, who travels to the Costa’s to recruit reluctant Ray Winstone for one last job for Mr Big (Ian McShane) back in the ‘Smoke’.

The first dialogue is Logan trying to persuade the now retired Gal (Winstone) to come back to London and do that one last job for Teddy Bass (McShane). You don’t say no to Don Logan. Don is nuts and somewhat violent.

Gal: I am going to have to turn this opportunity down.
Don: No, you are going to have to turn this opportunity yes!

Don: Shut up, c*nt. You louse. You got some f*ckin' neck ain't you. Retired? F*ck off, you're revolting. Look at your sun tan, its leather; it's like leather man, your skin. We could make a f*cking suitcase out of you. Like a crocodile, fat crocodile, fat bastard. You look like f*cking Idi Amin, you know what I mean? Stay here? You should be ashamed of yourself. Who do you think you are? King of the castle? Cock of the walk?
                      [He gut-punches Gal]

Don: What you think this is the wheel of fortune? You think you can make your dough and f*ck off? Leave the table? Thanks Don, see you Don, off to sunny Spain now Don, f*ck off Don. Lying in your pool like a fat blob laughing at me, you think I'm gonna have that? You really think I'm gonna have that, ya ponce. All right, I'll make it easy for you. God knows you're f*cking trying. Are you gonna do the job? It's not a difficult question, are you gonna do the job, yes or no?

                      ------------------------------------------------------
This scene sees Don belittling one of Gal’s fellow Costa del criminals who is also on easy street with a chubby belly.

Don: You're the problem! You're the f*cking problem you f*cking Dr White honkin' jam-rag f*cking sp*nk-bubble! I'm telling you Aitch you keep looking at me I'll put you in the f*cking ground, promise you!

                      ------------------------------------------------------
This scene is quite contemporary, Don sent back to England with a flea in his ear after Gal turns him down flat for the job. Logan lights up on the plane at the Spanish airport and is thrown off for smoking. In the security cabin he explains to the Spanish Police what ‘might’ have happened...

Don: Yeah, that's what I said. There's me putting my bag up in the cupboard next thing ya know, I feel hands on me. Someone's touched me, touched my front... my front bottom. I can't believe it, I've gone all cold. I look around, he standing there isn't he? That steward with the guilty look on his face. I was shocked; I didn't know what to say. I had to sit down, I was that perturbed. Then his mate, the other one who was giving us all lessons on what we do if we land in the sea. How to wear your life jacket etc; He starts off, he starts looking at my all funny... suggestive. Now I don't know if they're wanting me for a twosome or something, I don't know how they work it. But I'll tell you what, it scared me. I was shaking like a leaf, so without thinking I lit up a cigarette to calm me nerves. I was trembling, I was very emotional and that when all the rest of it happened. It's very regrettable. Now, I don't want to kick up a fuss, right, press charges... contact the British embassy. I'd rather not pursue those channels, that's not my style. I'm not that sort of a bloke. I don't want the man to lose his job and I'm sure he's not representative of all you Spanish people. But I would appreciate it if you had a word with him, let him know he's been rumbled

Dean Man Shoes almost fills the huge shoes of Sexy Beast shoes, so to speak, as the coolest Brit crime flick since. The narrative of the movie is a simple one. Richard, an ex-squaddie, has returned from Iraq after seven years to avenge his brothers abuse within the small Derbyshire village where the brothers grew up. The scene below is where the drug dealers finally front up to the psychotically seething Richard in the street. Sonny’s gang is rather comically squeezed into a lime green Citroen Diane with a broken sunroof watching on.

                      [In the car]
Tuff: Why doesn't he just chin him?
Big Al: He's weighing him up; he's weighing him up, shut up.

                      [On the street]
Sonny: You're making me very nervous, Richard.
Richard: Well you should be. If I were you, I’d get in that f*ckin' car and I’d get out of here man. I'd gather them goonies and get whatever you've got comin' mate... 'cause I’m gonna f*cking hit you all.
Sonny: I don't like being threatened, Rich'.
Richard: I'm not threatening you mate. It's beyond f*cking words. I watched over you when you were asleep and I looked at your f*cking neck and I was that far away from slicing it.
Richard: [Richard opens up his hand right hand and points towards his palm] you’re f*cking there mate!
                      [Richard clenches his hand]
Richard: So get in that car... and F**K OFF!

This is Rodney Dangerfield’s funniest film. He is that obnoxious fat guy with the goggle eyes from the equally hilarious Caddyshack. Rodney plays Thornton Melon, the 60 something owner of ‘Short n Fat’ clothes chain, the stores that cater for the bigger man. To help his son cope with college he has also enrolled. Chaos and fun ensues.

Thornton Melon: What's your favorite subject?
                      Teacher: Poetry.
Thornton Melon: Really? Well, maybe you can help me straighten out my Longfellow.

Diane: Actually, I'd like to join you, but I have class tonight.
Thornton Melon: Oh. How 'bout tomorrow night?
Diane: I have class then, too.
Thornton Melon: I'll tell you what, then. Why don't you call me some time when you have no class?

Thornton Melon: Please, try to understand. I don't have the background for this. I mean, the high school I went to, they asked a kid to prove the law of gravity--he threw the teacher out the window!

Thornton Melon: [on his second wife] Oh, we were doomed from the start. I'm an Earth sign. She's a Water sign. Together, we made mud.

There’s no need to tell you about Mr Tarantinos genius. Heres three short cool lines from a blisteringly good movie full of them!

Mr. Blonde: Hey Joe, you want me to shoot this guy?
Mr. White: [laughs] Shit... You shoot me in a dream; you better wake up and apologize

                      Mr. Pink: You kill anybody?
                      Mr. White: A few cops.
                      Mr. Pink: No real people?
                      Mr. White: Just cops

Mr. Pink: Why am I Mr. Pink?
Joe: Because you're a faggot, alright?
Mr. Pink: Why can’t I be Mr. Black? All the others have cool names.
Joe: Mr. Blacks on another job in another town. Now shut the f*ck up.

This little know British film starring David Thewlis (when he made decent movies) as an obnoxious smartass drifter who spends all night winding people up this classic dialogue led movie.
Tonight it’s a gormless security guard Brian, protecting an empty warehouse across the road from where Johnny is boning some chick, who will get a shotgun blast of his caustic wit and observations on life.

Louise: How did you get here?

Johnny: Well, basically, there was this little dot, right? And the dot went bang and the bang expanded. Energy formed into matter, matter cooled, matter lived, the amoeba to fish, to fish to fowl, to fowl to frog, to frog to mammal, the mammal to monkey, to monkey to man, amo amas amat, quid pro quo, memento mori, ad infinitum, sprinkle on a little bit of grated cheese and leave under the grill till Doomsday.

Brian: What are you doing here?
Johnny: Well, I was standing over *there*, but that didn't seem to be working out for me, so I moved over here, but this one isn't much better.

Louise: What are you doing here? You look like sh*t.
Johnny: I'm just tryin' to blend in with the surroundings

Johnny: You know what frightens me about the human body?
                      Sophie: What?
Johnny: Well, it's like the, er, most sophisticated mechanism in the entire universe, and yet it's so fuckin' quiet, isn't it? Know what I mean?
Sophie: Dunno. Mine makes enough noise.
Johnny: It's like this, er, wet, pink factory. What the fuck are they makin' in there? I mean, what's the product? You never see no delivery trucks comin' and goin', do you?

Johnny: What if God just put us here for his own entertainment? That's all we are - just something for him to have a bit of a laugh at?

Again I don’t need to tell you about the greatest movie ever made and this, its most famous scene, deserves top billing. Henry (Ray Liotta) and Tommy (Joe Pesci) are dining on a big table full of mob guys and good food in a busy swanky restaurant.

Henry Hill: You're a pistol, you're really funny. You're really funny.
Tommy DeVito: What do you mean I'm funny?
Henry Hill: It's funny, you know. It's a good story, it's funny, you're a funny guy.
                      [laughs]
Tommy DeVito: what do you mean; you mean the way I talk? What?
Henry Hill: It's just, you know. You're just funny, it's... funny, the way you tell the story and everything.
Tommy DeVito: [it becomes quiet] Funny how? What's funny about it?
Anthony Stabile: Tommy no, You got it all wrong.
Tommy DeVito: Oh, oh, Anthony. He's a big boy, he knows what he said. What did ya say? Funny how?
                      Henry Hill: Jus...
                      Tommy DeVito: What?
Henry Hill: Just... ya know... you're funny.
Tommy DeVito: You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little f*cked up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh; I'm here to f*ckin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?
Henry Hill: Just... you know, how you tell the story, what?
Tommy DeVito: No, no, I don't know, you said it. How do I know? You said I'm funny. How the fuck am I funny, what the f*ck is so funny about me? Tell me, tell me what's funny!
Henry Hill: [long pause] Get the fuck out of here, Tommy!
Tommy DeVito: [everyone laughs] Ya motherfucker! I almost had him, I almost had him. Ya stuttering prick ya. Frankie, was he shaking? I wonder about you sometimes, Henry. You may fold under questioning.

I love this movie and not enough people have seen it to see just how good it is. It’s currently on at the West End as a stage play (which the movie is in all truth) I believe and has some of the crispest dialogue around. It was also Jack Lemmon’s last great performance. In such a star packed movie with the likes of Pacino, Spacey, Baldwin and Ed Harris on show you can’t go wrong-and everyone gets decent lines.
David Mammet is a superb writer and his version of the Death of a Salesman will leave you enthralled. Admittedly it makes a very undramatic period property sales office in Chicago feel like a nuclear control bunker at the end of the world but what writing. This scene sees slick rich and handsome sales boss Alec Baldwin lecturing the troops in the office for motivation. My way or the highway…

(Blake: We're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anybody want to see second prize?
                      [Holds up prize]
Blake: Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired.

Blake: That watch costs more than you car. I made $970,000 last year. How much you make? You see pal, that's who I am, and you're nothing. Nice guy? I don't give a sh*t. Good father? Fuck you! Go home and play with your kids. You wanna work here - close! You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you c*cksucker? You can't take this, how can you take the abuse you get on a sit? You don't like it, leave.

Blake: A-B-C. A-Always, B-Be, C-Closing. Always be closing, always be closing

Probably Al Pacinos best movie here as he plays bottom feeding mobster Lefty Vittori, a suitable klutz for the F.B.I to befriend through agent Donnie Brasco-brilliantly played by the immaculate Johnny Depp, even though he was poorly cast- to infiltrate the Mafia.
Pacino absolutely revels in playing the idiot savant gangster who his fellow mobsters willingly mock. Its great movie if you haven’t seen it, the last of those extremely successful mobster movies of that era.

Lefty: A wise guy's always right even when he's wrong, he's right.

Lefty: If anything should happen to me... make sure Annette gets the car.

Everyone loves Rocky and if you didn’t get to see it first time around then you can see it all again, retiled Rocky Balboa in the shameless 2006 release. Stallone wrote this movie in three days and the comical Italian American street slang is surely the reason why this worked so well. In the eighties Sly would be the third most prolific writer in Hollywood, scripting all manner of movies.

Bodyguard: Hey Rock! Did ya get the license number?
                      Rocky: Of what?
Bodyguard: The truck that run over your face.

[Rocky and Gazzo steps out of the car for a talk]
Gazzo: [upset] How come you didn't break this guy's thumb like I told ya?
Rocky: Well, how did you know I didn't...
Gazzo: You don't think I hear things? Did I give you a job this morning or I didn't, huh?
                      Rocky: Yeah.
Gazzo: So why didn't you break his thumb like I told ya? When you don't do what I tell you to, you make me look bad, Rock.
Rocky: [trying to come up with an excuse] I figured - Look, I figured if I break the guy's thumb, he gets laid off, right? Then he can't make...
Gazzo: [cuts Rocky off] Yeah, well don't figure - Let me do the figurin', okay, Rock? From here on in, just let me do the figurin', you know? These guys think we're runnin' some kind of charity or somethin'. That they can get off light. From here on in, do what I tell you to do, because it's bad for my reputation, you understand? You got - you got it, Rock?
                      Rocky: I got it.
[Gazzo walks back towards the car]
Rocky: Hey, how do you spell "Del Rio"?
Gazzo: [angrly] Open a dictionary, Rock!

Well, that’s it, and I didn’t even quote Michael Caine!

                        Disadvantages

list of my top ten movie quotes with brief reasons why

My husband is a pedant for movie quotes. He loves them. No, adores them. In fact, he can’t get enough of them, and it made me think that we must all have particular favourites when it comes to movie quotes. Something that means something special to us or just sums up a whole film for us. So, here are mine, hope you decide to share yours too.

‘Nobody puts baby in a corner’
Ah, don’t you just love the smell of cheese in the morning? Yup, at number 10 in my top 10 movie quotes it’s this humdinger of a line from Dirty Dancing. This one’s used when Johnny, played by Patrick Swayze, returns to save the day dragging Baby from her corner so they can dance the last dance of the season together. Pure cheese, but I love every minute of it, though doubtless any non-sad people out there won’t admit they recognise it, this is the line that sums up the whole film for me. Dirty Dancing came out when I was a young teenager so had a huge effect on my hormones at the time, but even now it’s still a favourite.

‘A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.’
I can’t be the only one who got the shivers the first time I heard this quote in The Silence of the Lambs, can I? Fantastic film, one of the most sinister I’ve seen and the noise Hannibal Lecter makes at the end of this quote was pure brilliance. Definitely a quote to drag out every time you spot a bottle of Chianti in the supermarket.

‘Now you know what we are; now you know what you are. You'll never grow old, Michael, and you'll never die.’
This is a particular favourite from the Lost Boys but for a bit of an odd reason. I loved the film – again it came out when I was a teenager and fed my raging hormones, but this particular quote only started to mean something to me when a band called China Drum stole it to use in one of their songs. The song is one of my absolute favourites and this quote makes the song extra special, hence it’s inclusion at number eight in my list.

                        ‘Hasta la vista, baby’
This one from Terminator 2 hits my list at number seven. I know, I know, it’s another cheesy one – but the memories I have of this quote, another film from my early teens, basically revolve around the lads at school shouting it at each other as they mimed shooting the rest of the class with very large, imaginary guns. It was the epitome of cool at the time, as was the film itself. Haven’t heard it for the longest time, though, for some reason Mr Schwarzenegger doesn’t seem to use phrases like this one anymore… Wonder why?

                        ‘Yippee-ki-yay, motherf***er;
Yes I know, how naughty of me to include a rude word in my opinion, though I have used *** so the more sensitive amongst us shouldn’t be offended. Ah, Bruce Willis is a particular favourite of mine, and the Die Hard films are a little bit special, aren’t they. Notice that’s not a question, I will tolerate no argument! Hehe. This particular quote is another one that sums up the whole film in a couple of words. Love it or hate it, you have to admit that Die Hard was an exceptionally popular trilogy, and now that there’s a fourth one out I really must get around to watching it soon.

                        ‘Houston, we have a problem’
Don’t tell me you don’t know which film this one’s from, I won’t believe you for a second. Not only is this quote from Apollo 13 instantly recognisable, but it must have been parodied in any and every comedy about space travel that’s been made in recent years. I’ve included this in my list at number five, because it is a decent little quote, but we’re coming up on my real favourites now.

                        ‘Here’s Johnny’
Spoken with far too many e’s in the ‘Heeeeere’s’, this quote from the Shining was made terrifying by the image of Jack Nicholson peering through the door he’d just smashed a huge chunk out of with an axe. A truly, truly frightening film, this quote was a must for my list as its such an icon of Kubrikness, if such a thing exists. To be honest I feel guilty resigning it to position four in my list. It was a tough choice, but the top three deserve their places, I think.

                        ‘I see dead people’
This classic from the Sixth Sense has been used in every parody movie going, I’m sure. And if it hasn’t, it should have been. Even so, I still remember how very, very scary this movie was the first time I saw it. How atmospheric and genuinely tense it was when Haley Joel Osment as Cole announced that he could ‘see dead people’. Another one that made me shiver and a worthy third place in my list.

‘My own brother, a goddamn, s*it-sucking vampire. You wait 'till mom finds out, buddy!’
Ah, I love this quote from the Lost Boys so much that it actually made my number two despite the fact that I’d already included a quote from the movie earlier in the list. Again, I’ve *’d out the rude bits for the more delicate reader, so hope no offence will be taken. For me this line sums up all that was best about the movie. Yes, it was about vampires and teenage angst, but it never took itself too seriously either. A classic quote from a classy movie.

And finally, my number one movie quote has to be:

‘You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off’
Don’t tell me you don’t love the original Italian Job, because I won’t believe you. This film is British cinema at its best; Benny Hill as the mad scientist with a taste for the larger lady, Mr Bridger with his personal toilet and, of course, the manic mini chase. The film is an absolute classic and whilst its stuffed full of great one liners, this is the one for me, and for lots of others out there it would seem, as nowadays you can even buy the t-shirt!

Hope you enjoyed reading my top ten movie quotes, I’m hoping you'll share some of your favourites soon too.
