There is a huge list and I admire many actors in the industry and most of them have excellent potential and have real talent! Here are my top ten (as I'm a drama student and admire many actors I'm narrowing them down to ten!)
1. Heath Ledger
This actor was one of the greatest in his generation, sadly he passed away cause there was so, so, so much more to come from him. Unlike many actors his age, he had real talent and one of those young actors who could actually can act. His performances in Dark Knight and Brokeback mountain were some of the best out of his career, cause these two roles showed his ability to perform and to outshine his talent and love for acting.
R.I.P. Heath you'll be greatly missed.
2. Jack Nicholson
He is the king of Hollywood! He's just incredible - he can almost play any role and his voice is beautiful and pure. He has some of the best facial expressions, especially in 'The Shining.' His performances in 'Over who flew over the Cuckoo's nest' and 'As good as it gets' are some of my favorites, this shows how incredible this guy is. 3 Oscars? totally deserves them!
3. Daniel Day Lewis
Although he hasn't been in many throughout his career, less than 30, but every film he has been in shows that he really, really can transform into any character. He does a special acting technique named 'method acting' which means he goes in depth into a role, so that means off set as well as on set, for example if he had to speak in a American accent, he would talk off set with it as well as playing his character. One of the best British actors and I believe that more people should show some more respect for this guy.
4. Tom Hanks
This guy is also great, I loved his performance in 'Forrest Gump' you could really see it in his eyes and really see the character of Forrest come to life. He has done loads of films, but I love his talent and his voice is just as good. Every role he has done, it makes a film so good!
5. Sean Penn
This guy is amazing, he really has talent, even he has got into a lot of trouble with police and that when he's off set, but we also have to respect this man for his talent and makes Hollywood proud!
6. David Tennant
I was very lucky enough to see this actor on stage, not once but twice and all I can say that is he is brilliant on theatre as well as TV and film, cause you can get actors who are brilliant on screen but not as good on stage, that is not as common in some actors. So this actor is a genius just like the doctor.
7. Joaquin Phoenix
Although this guy has been in about 20 films - as he announced his retirement in film earlier last year. But he has done some incredible films from Gladiator and walk the line, he shouldn't haven't retired cause he has done some amazing films and my dream was to work with him, but it isn't going to happen now sadly.
8. Johnny Depp
Like many, many people all over the world this guy is just one of the best actors in Hollywood and there is nothing bad to say about this guy! I love his film and everything he has done I never have anything bad to say about it any of his films in general. Can't wait to see his future films and I would love to work with him any day!
9. Russell Crowe
He was great in Gladiator and A beautiful mind - these have be two of my favorite films starring him! He is just great, great, and nothing bad to say about his acting, just a general great actor.
10. Christian Bale
I love him! My all time favorite Welsh actor, he has an excellent range of roles which he his performed in so well and I can't wait to see his future films! He is just another British/Welsh actors, as we don't have many modern Welsh actors, but we do have many vintage Welsh actors like Richard Burton and Anthony Hopkins.
These are probably not my top ten actor's full stop but they are ten that make you take notice and can act enough to make you rent a movie with them in it. The Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt type of pretty boy just doesn't do it for me and I like actors that really get into the part and not worried about how they look line on screen or if the other guy or girl has better lines. They just take over the movie and suck you in. Rebellion and charisma is the name of the game. In their profiles I have suggested a film from each actor for younger readers to see them in as you guys still have so many cool films to enjoy in life that us older ones have already seen and so have a duty to tell you about them. I have included some actors on here just to point at that film that I know you would like. They are in no particular order.

Don: What you think this is the wheel of fortune? You think you can make your dough and f*ck off? Leave the table? Thanks Don, see you Don, off to sunny Spain now Don, f*ck off Don. Lying in your pool like a fat blob laughing at me, you think I'm gonna have that? You really think I'm gonna have that, ya ponce. All right, I'll make it easy for you. God knows you're f*cking trying. Are you gonna do the job? It's not a difficult question, are you gonna do the job, yes or no?
'Sexy Beast' (2000)
The greatest actors are the ones where their name is quickly forgotten on screen as he or she becomes the character, Kinglsey mind boggling good at distancing himself from the real person. I was watching '50 Dead Man Walking' the other week and it took me an hour to realise Kingsley was the British agent, his accent and look unrecognisable under the wig and only his mannerisms giving it away in the end. I'm not really into Kingsley's Ghandi reputation as his mix-raced Kenyan Indian heritage gave him the head start in that one like it did for Forrest Whitaker playing Idi Amin and Kinglsey certainly portrayed a rather bias and good Ghandi. What I am into is his startling contrast work like Don Logan in Sexy Beast, his psychotic Mr Fix it of the Underworld who is sent out to the Costas to recruit an extremely reluctant Ray Winston for a job in London a truly brilliant and quotable turn. It's a really cool movie and along with Shane Meadows Dead Mans Shoes it's a cut film guys really need to see before the decades out.

Jimmy Conway: I'm not mad, I'm proud of you. You took your first pinch like a man and you learn two great things in your life. Look at me, never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut.
As with most of the great Italian American actors out there they are brilliant in their younger years and then tiresome in the latter years, lost without those mafia movies from back in the day, Deniro and the likes of Pacino doing nothing of note in the last fifteen years other than playing themselves for big bucks, that commercial pull peaking in the extremely over-rated Heat.
DeNiro trumps them all because he was the business in that golden period for these guys between the mid 1970s and Goodfellas in 1990. His amazing performance as the delusional budding stand up comic in The King of Comedy is one you must see in that rather odd and appealing film. Everything from that visceral Russian Roulette scene in the Deer Hunter to his unrecognizable flabby turn in Raging Bull he was an actor who gave 100% to the method. Now he's just flabby and lazy and almost enjoying parodying himself in movies like Analyze This & That. His attempt to win the Oscar by playing 'the retard role', as Kate Winslett so cheekily put it in Ricky Gervais`s Extras, failed miserably with Flawless, as did Sean Penns with 'I am Sam', actors that have run out of road and ideas. But for his iconic movies and commitment to 'the performance' he makes my list, not least because he is in Goodfellas, my favourite film ever!

Reduced to playing the wise and worldly old farts these days, Caine is more of a cinema icon than a great actor. It's basically Michael Caine on screen in every one of those 100 plus films he's been in and we watch those movies for that reason only. He doesn't try to do character acting and his best performances have been in the latter part of his career with a bit of facial hair to give him more authority, Educating Rita right up there, but he is charismatic and British and so deserves a place. Impersonation is the best form of flattery for Britain's coolest actor.

Crimson Tide (1995)
The great Sydney Poitier paved the way with his groundbreaking Oscar for 'In the Heat of the Night' for guys like Denzel to go on and also win awards and continue smashing down barriers, although his somewhat ironic best performance as a leading man Oscar for Training Day for playing a jive talking cop did raise an eyebrow or two, the type of role black actors were supposed to be moving away from. But on screen he is dynamite and very sexy, an actor who knows just that and so pitches just the right level of performance, never the ham always the star. Admittedly he is a little outspoken on various issues, like 911, and so perhaps doesn't get offered the best scripts. But boy can he sell a movie across the spectrum. Wouldn't you like a million dollar smile like that?

Donnie Brasco ( 1987)
Again an Italian American actor that is pretty limited in that he plays himself, mostly in those mob movies that earned him his reputation back in the day. Scent of a Woman was his only Oscar, The Academy; it seems, refusing to award much to that whole glamorization of the Italian American mafia thing that born us with so many great actors. The Godfather did cough up a golden statue for Marlon Brando in his rather silly parody of what a mob boss should be like but nothing since. Pacino was superb in Donnie Brasco and Carlitos Way and should have at least won one there. He was just as good back in the 70s with Dog Day Afternoon and Serpico but nothing for that either. To have one less Oscar than Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington shows just how much political correctness and studio power has taken over Hollywood. I would not watch Pacino much today though as he considers himself a Broadway luvvie and so only does films for cash to pay the tax man.

-Quote- Jay: "You know the difference between you and me? I make this look good".
If you could describe the perfect modern A-List movie star then Will Smith is your man, the only reason he make my list. He's intelligent, educated, handsome and can sing and dance too, the consummate all-rounder. His everyman charm and charisma appeals to most cinema demographics across the younger social spectrum - class, age and race not a problem. This guy can sell Will Smith to anyone and the slick PR machine behind him makes sure that happens. There's not really much more you can say other than he is the perfect modern multiplex star up on the big screen. I mean who doesn't like Smith or his movies? Ok, Hitch was dire and Seven Pounds rather silly but you know he will deliver a cool action movie one day soon.

Red: (addressing the parole board) There's not a day goes by I don't feel regret. Not because I'm in here, or because you think I should. I look back on the way I was then: a young, stupid kid who committed that terrible crime. I want to talk to him. I want to try and talk some sense to him, tell him the way things are. But I can't. That kid's long gone and this old man is all that's left. I got to live with that. Rehabilitated? It's just a bullshit word. So you go on and stamp your form, sonny, and stop wasting my time. Because to tell you the truth, I don't give a sh*t.
Shawshank Redemption (1992)
Freeman makes the list for me because he has no shame in playing the stereotypical wise old black guy that's seen it all. He's not angry with the world at all. I like that. I'm a black guy and I'm just going to get on with and enjoy my life and the people I meet. He is certainly using his fame to catch up his reputation by living in the fast lane, recently involved in a car crash late at night with his now 37-year-old girlfriend, his wife Myrna immediately filing for divorce after rushing to his emergency bed in his native Louisiana.
His Oscar for Driving Miss Daisy came when he was in his 50s and before that his film career was rather chequered, an actor finally making his name well into mid life, the Clive Dunn of Hollywood. I really do feel he should have got an Oscar for his astounding performance in Shawshank as the old lag too but it wasn't to be and both he and the film were totally blanked by the Academy, purely because it wasn't hyped up for its cinema release, probably the world's most popular word-of-mouth success.
Best Film- Any Bond...
A good movie to see him in - The Hunt for Red October
"My names Bond...James Bond"
You can only include Sean because he's the best Bond ever and Bond is British, this, a shameless patriotic inclusion of the man every woman secretly wanted in his hey day. Like Caine, the Scott has hidden behind a beard or two in his best roles although sees himself more of a thespian and serious actor than Caine by doing stage plays as well as movies. Sean was very sexy and so his roles tended to be macho ones and we loved him for it, not afraid to have his say over issues, owning up to backhanding the misses once or twice in his younger days. He just the bad boy actor that appeals to all and his stage presence and delivery in the big movies are right up there. I suppose you could say he's our Harrison Ford. He hasn't worked in a movie for five years now and he still lives down near Marbella knocking the golf ball around, rumours of health problems and still not planning to live in beloved Scotland and pay some bloody taxes to the country he won't shut up about.

Jules: The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
I would list SLJ purely because he's just so cool up on screen. You can't act that charisma and the mix of menace and more than a suggestion of anti-white about him means when he gets a great script like Pulp Fiction he's going to be sensational. With his chequered early years of drugs and crime and his schooling under 'chippy' Spike Lee' directorship, appearing in most of his early films, he puts that life experience of a lower class black dude on the screen with a thump!
Pulp Fiction allowed him to graduate to action hero roles like 'Die Hard with Vengeance' and so the big bucks flowed. He opposed other black role modes like rappers and soul singers appearing in movies as it was undermining his profession yet has done six movies with rappers and singers. He's way bigger a movie star than we realise and in 2005 became the actor whose movies have grossed the most money in the world - in excess of $3 billion, doing around four films a year, no doubt accruing a fair chunk of those billions. As an anglophile he has a home in London and was recently mooned by two chavs girls in a British seaside resort. He's clearly not here for our culture.

McMurphy: [about shock treatments] "They was giving me ten thousand watts a day, you know, and I'm hot to trot! The next woman takes me on's gonna light up like a pinball machine and pay off in silver dollars!"
What can you say about this guy that hasn't been said? Unlike most of my picks this guy did nearly all his best work back in the 70s, One Flew over the Cuckoo Nest, Five Easy pieces and Chinatown two of the great movies of the decade. With a staggering three Oscars and nine nominations, including five nominations in six years, he's the most decorated on my list. Nicholson has that edge of insanity mixed in with instability on screen that makes him so interesting as you don't know when he's going to stamp his fist next. As with The Shining he almost becomes the character as the blurring is all too real. He is astoundingly watchable when he's in the mood and if the director is not up to it he will run wild. He hardly spoke to director Milos Forman on the set of Cuckoos Nest and earned the wraff of him by insisting three of his mates will be in the film with him or he would walk, Danny Devito getting his big break this way. Scatman Crouthers, another mate, would follow him to The Shinning as the caretaker.

Harry Callahan: "I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya?"
There's not a lot more you can say about Clint Eastwood either, other than he is the consummate American movie star. Born to a blue-collar family and an old man who worked in heavy industry, a confession to act then would have made him look a right dandy's in these parts. But that macho upbringing would see him play the iconic cowboy in the Sergio Leonia movies to soften the blow and then follow on in World War Two war films. But after the intriguing character study Play Misty for Me he moved on to new pastures and made some cool movies, keeping his machismo with Harry Callaghan, but also more subtle stuff. But it's his directing\leading man combo that has earned him the awards and some say its payback by Hollywood with those somewhat soft Oscars (Million Dollar Baby is rather dull) for being such an all-American icon. With four more nominations he's up there with the greats and what better way to finish my list.
Now, my top ten worst actors!
#1- Ben Affleck...
It would be easy to rattle of a list including the likes of De Niro, Pacino, Brando, Bogart, Nicholson, Day-Lewis, Olivier, Peck etc etc. But everybody knows these names and their movies. I would like to give props to those who get little or no recognition, those who you may never have heard of. Generally I'd like to give credit where it is due to a few of my unsung acting heroes and rising stars.
Some of these names many of you will be acquainted with but they don't appear on many people's lists. In no particular order (apart from my number 1 choice) my alternative list of ten actors whose movies you should seek out are as follows:
- Sonny Chiba. Born Shinichi Chiba, this Japanese tough guy made a name for himself in the 1970s starring in martial arts movies. He is a legitimate karate master who is a cult hero all around the world. For me his best works are the "Streetfighter" movies where he plays a mercenary karate master who ends up becoming something of an anti-hero as he always seems to get double-crossed by the gangsters who hire him. I find his work easily as enjoyable as that of the likes of the genre's biggest and best known names such as Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. One of Chiba's movies "Bullet Train" has been mentioned as being the inspiration for the Hollywood movie "Speed" Starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. Such luminaries as Quentin Tarantino, who cast Chiba in "Kill Bill", have also hailed the actor's movies as a source of inspiration. The "Streetfighter" box set containing all 3 of the films in this series can currently be purchased from amazon.co.uk for an absolute bargain price of £5.98. These movies are very much of there time but are a truly great old-school martial arts treat.
- Eddie Marsan. A British actor (hurrah!!) who is actually beginning to get some recognition. I first came across him on an old sitcom called "Game On" where he played one of Sam Janus's many boyfriends. Then he popped up as a naïve yet weasely character called Eddie in "Gangster Number 1", a great British gangster movie set in the 1960s also featuring an up and coming Paul Betteny. The best of his work though is his portrayal of Scott, the vile driving instructor in Mike Leigh's "Happy Go Lucky". It's nice to see Marsan being rewarded for his good work and given the chance to work alongside such industry cash cows as Will Smith in films like "Hancock" where he played a villain. "Happy Go Lucky" can be purchased from amazon.co.uk for £4.98.
- Brian Dennehy. He was in loads of stuff that I watched when I was a kid. His acting credits include "Cocoon", "Silverado", "F/X: Murder By Illusion", "F/X 2" etc. His best work is as the local sheriff in "Rambo: First Blood". Dennehy is the first actor who I can personally remember as being "that guy", the kind of actor who you know the face but not the name. In recent years he has appeared in the remake of "Assault On Precinct 13" which was quite decent as remakes go. "Rambo: First Blood" can be purchased for £5.38 from amazon.co.uk.
- Peter Capaldi. First came to prominence playing Danny Oldsen in Bill Forsyth's brilliant "Local Hero" but best known as the rancid, swearing, aggressive, manipulative spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in Armando Iannucci's BBC comedy show "The Thick Of It" and "In the Loop", a movie which is not quite a spin off of "The Thick Of It" as the only character reprised from the tv is Tucker but which is pretty much in the same vain. You couldn't get 2 more contrasting roles really and that is testament to Capaldi's acting skill. He certainly deserves all of the praise and success he has enjoyed recently as he has been a fine actor who has endured and reaped the rewards. "In The Loop" is released on August 24th 2009 and is available for pre-order on amazon.co.uk at £10.98.
- Michael Fassbender. This guy's star is massively on the rise. If you haven't already heard of him already then you soon will. Fassbender will be up on the big screen in Quentin Tarantino's newest movie "Inglorious Basterds" and will be appearing in "Jonah Hex", a comic book adaptation that is due out in summer 2010. His best work is in his mesmeric performance as prisoner and IRA volunteer Bobby Sands in "Hunger", a based-on-fact movie about the Irish hunger strike that took place in 1981. This guy has serious acting chops and I hope he doesn't waste his talent making crappy Hollywood gumph. "Hunger" can be purchased for £4.98 from amazon.co.uk
- Benicio Del Toro. Ok so not exactly an unknown but he's on this list for a reason. Del Toro's portrayal of Che Guevara in Steven Soderbergh's epic movie "Che" that had to be chopped in half and served in 2 parts due to its 247 minute running time is one of the great performances of the first decade of the 21st century. It won Del Toro the best actor award at the Cannes Film Festival and at the Goya Awards (Spain) but he got completely snubbed "The Academy" (The Oscars). Even Sean Penn who won several awards for performance in "Milk" was dismayed at the snubbing of Del Toro. It really angers me that the Americans continue to snub such fine performances seemingly because they are contained within a movie made in a foreign language. Che Parts 1 AND 2 can be bought as a 2 disc set for £17.98 from amazon.co.uk.
- Sally Hawkins. A great British actress who I hope is destined for big things. Her best work was as the annoying yet brilliant Poppy in Mike Leigh's "Happy Go Lucky" which I have obviously already mentioned in this post. Hawkins was also the only actor who performed well in Woody Allen's "Cassandra's Dream", a recent train wreck of a movie with unusually awful performances (and accents) from Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor. Again, "Happy Go Lucky" can be purchased from amazon.co.uk for £4.98.
- Alan Arkin. A veteran actor who always puts a smile on my face. For such a decorated actor (2 Oscars, 2 BAFTAs, several Golden Globes, EMMYs etc etc) Arkin doesn't seem to make it on to any top actor lists I can recall seeing. It's a shame because he is a fine actor and as such I would like to give him his props. He is probably best known to most as the acerbic, rancid grandfather in Little Miss Sunshine, a role which won him his second Oscar (best supporting actor). There is also a scene in the pretty lame recent comedy "Get Smart" involving Arkin's character nearly getting killed by a swordfish that had me in absolute stitches. He is the archetypal old git, and I say that with the warmest of affection. In "Little Miss Sunshine" he is sensational in practically every scene in which he is present. "Little Miss Sunshine" is currently selling at a bargain price of £3.98 on amazon.co.uk.
- Vincent Cassel. An amazing French actor who has a film currently in cinemas called "Mesrine: Killer Instinct" which is the first of a 2 parter telling the story of the infamous French gangster Jacques Mesrine. Cassel is one of my very favourite leading male actors and his brooding presence serves to lift basically every movie he appears in. His breakthrough role came in "La Haine", a French movie shot in black and white that tells the story of a day in the life of 3 friends living on a rough estate on the outskirts of Paris just after a riot has taken place. Cassel's character wants to be Travis Bickle (Rober De Niro's character in "Taxi Driver"). Only an actor with the talent of Cassel can hope to pull off such a brooding character. I am absolutely buzzing for the release of the 2nd part of the Mesrine story which is out later this month. Cassel is one of the best actors and most on-form actors of his generation and I think he's ace. Do yourself a favour, go to amazon.co.uk and spend the £4.98 it will cost you to buy "La Haine". Go!! Now!!
This brings me to the last name on my list, the actor whose movies you simply must see if you haven't already.
- John Cazale. An American actor who sadly died of bone cancer aged just 42 back in 1978. Cazale was arguably the finest character actor of his (or any other) time. Bear in mind he made movies in the 1970s, a particularly fruitful period in the history of films. This was a time when movies were driven by plot, interesting ideas and directors with genuine vision. This was a time when true heavyweights of the acting profession were giving all-time great performances. The likes of Hackman, Hoffman, Nicholson, Pacino and De Niro were in their prime and the generation previous to them (Brando, Olivier etc) were still delivering the goods. Cazale only ever appeared in 5 movies :
"The Godfather Part 2"
"Dog Day Afternoon"
"The Deer Hunter"
Every film he appeared in was nominated for the Oscar for best film and 3 of them took home the big prize. The number of films he was seen in is actually 6 if you count archive footage from "The Godfather Part 3", which was also nominated for the best film Oscar. What an amazing record!! My mind boggles at what kind of legendary status this man could have attained had he not died so young.
It's astonishing but this man, who played weak and feeble characters like Fredo Corleone in "The Godfather" movies and Stan in "The Deer Hunter", did more than just hold his own when acting alongside the likes of Brando, De Niro and Pacino. For me personally no other actor has ever been able to portray such conflicted, messed up characters like Cazale. He is often referred to as an actor's actor and it's easy to see why. The firebrand of acting that is Al Pacino, who knew and worked with Cazale for many years is quoted as saying "All I wanted to do was work with John for the rest of my life. He was my acting partner". Cazale always provided a beautiful, almost downtrodden contrast to the bombastic powerhouses like Pacino and De Niro.
My favourite of Cazale's movies is actually "The Deer Hunter" in which he stars alongside Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken (who won the best supporting actor award for his performance) and his fiancee Meryl Streep. Yet again he perfectly portrays Stan, a man with deep personal issues. I love this movie but it's correct what a lot of people say about it in that it's hard to bring yourself to watch it again. The emotional power of the movie is such that watching it is one of the most emotionally draining 3 hours you can imagine. Also, on a personal level, I find it upsetting knowing that during the making of the movie this great man was actually gravely ill due to the terminal bone cancer and had to shoot all of his scenes first. John Cazale died before filming was finished but had shot all of his scenes by then. I only have to hear "Cavatina", the signature music of this movie, and my mood can become melancholic.
Go to amazon or wherever you have to go but if you haven't seen any of John Cazale's movies then you really should be looking to purchase one. There is apparently a documentary which was shown at this year's Sundance Festival that is meant to be on general release at some point next year that tells his story. I look forward to this with great anticipation.
The order was difficult to decide as I'd probably have most of them as joint number one, but anyway...
1. Christian Bale - Bale has been working overtime since 2000: American Psycho, Equilibrium, Batman Begins, The Prestige, 3:10 to Yuma, TDK, Terminator Salvation and Public enemies in production. There are actually more than this. He has been turning out massive titles. It seems that everything he is in turns out extremely popular.
2. Edward Norton - Fight Club, American History X, The Incredible Hulk, The Italian Job... Norton has some huge titles under his belt. I think his best performance was American History X, very closely followed by Fight Club.
3. Zack Braff - I think he will end up directing more than starring but Scrubs and Garden State alone make him number 3. Maybe when he is further into his career he'll be higher up.
4. Robert De Niro - I don't think I really need to explain this one! Casino, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver... they all speak for themselves and Goodfellas is one of my all time favourites.
5. Will Smith - I prefer his drama-based performances like I Am Legend and Pursuit of Happyness to his comedy roles like Hitch but he's clearly proven himself as one of the best actors in the world right now.
6. Kevin Spacey - I can't decide if his best role is The Usual Suspects or American Beauty. I'd probably go with the latter. He also made 21 much more successful than it otherwise would have been.
7. Denzel Washington - Training Day and Man on Fire are both amazing and Denzel couldn't have lead them any better. They're almost the exact opposite roles too, which couldn't have been easy.
8. Morgan Freeman - The best narrator of all time! Couldn't have picked a better actor for Shawshank and he has shown he can perform a variety of roles, by starring in movies like Lucky Number Slevin and The Bucket List.
9. Ben Affleck - I thought I'd include Affleck... more out of pity! He's an excellent actor but I really don't think he got enough significant roles. He started off with a masterpiece; Good Will Hunting but nothing stood out as much. Daredevil was poor, Changing Lanes and Sum of all Fears were decent, maybe we'll see something better in the near future.
10. Seth Rogers - Exactly my type of humour. I've loved all his movies (both directed and acted by him).
TOP TEN ACTORS - I don't fancy these (well not all of them) but appreciate them as actors and there just seems to be something intriguing about this lot...
I loved Arnie from the first time I saw Terminator when I was a little girl and although he is not the most talented actor (the most believable) I cant help but watch movies he is in and I love it when he tries not to be such a hard man (eg- Twins and Junior)
He is by no means the best looking actor but there is something about him that draws me to his movies - it must be the roles he chooses to play. Once again an actor whose films I generally go and see. I love his action packed movies such as gone in 60 Seconds and Bangkok Dangerous but I also like his other 'quieter' work such as national treasure - he is quite versatile.
Ok he is a HUNK! I think I first stumbled across him in Crank but I am not sure. He generally plays the hard man in many an action film. Other than being totally gorgeous he really seems to play his roles well and I certainly cant take my eyes of him!
This is mainly based on his older work although I still liked him in Da Vinci Code I think I preferred him when I was younger. His role in The Green Mile bought me to tears. He can just about act anything and be anyone. He is such a sweet and lovable character and someone that everyone will know probably from Forrest Gump - Life's like a box of chocolates....
This is an odd one. Although he looks strange and can be a little bit of a 'stiff' actor he is still in my top 10. I fell in love with Rocky and have seen them all and I still love all his old stuff. I even went to see the new Rambo without complaining to my partner because he is secretly an actor I like to see.
Leonardo Di Caprio:
Ok this one was one of my teenage crushes and I did pretend and re-enact those scenes from Titanic in my mind. (as most of us did?) I didn't realise that I had seen him much earlier in Who's eating Gilbert Grape where he acted alongside Johnny Depp as his younger handicapped brother (acted terrifically). I also really like him in Blood Diamond.
I LOVE HIM - Ok he is number one. A great versatile actor who is gorgeous and takes on the unconventional roles and does them superbly. I don't know if I would like him in real life but I love the characters he plays. He is gorgeous (oh I have already said that) but I can't express it enough. I loved his most recent character Jack Sparrow!
Ok I don't really like Kung foo movies but have had to suffer many at the hands of my partner and Jackie is one of the actors that I do like. He makes the character funny and has impressive moves - he is just so loveable and makes the movies much more enjoyable.
Sorry John I nearly forgot you - but you're the one that I want. Since watching Grease I was hooked on John and love pretty much all his work even now although he doesn't really have the WOW factor anymore there is something that makes me watch a film he is in. Once again he chooses many different roles and manages to internalise it and make it real. A great actor.
Although he is getting a bit weird now I can't fault his films and loved him growing up. I loved him in his pilot outfit! He can still make fun of himself though as seen in Tropic Thunder (he is in disguise) A must for a top 10.
Oh no there are too many...I have run out! (This may be updated subject to me changing my mind - lol)
In the wonderful world of cinema there are many fine actors past and present, but only a few can really be classed as the worlds finest. This is a matter of opinion of course and everyone's top ten would probably be different in some way depending on age, style of film you maybe into etc, etc. For actresses I will do a separate list, anyway this is my top ten, counting down from 10 to 1, hope you enjoy.
10. Steve McQueen :
For me McQueen or the 'King of Cool' is the original Hollywood action hero or anti-hero as the case may be. The first McQueen film I remember seeing as a young boy was 'Hell is for Heroes' and I thought McQueen was just the coolest guy on the planet, a real man's man.
What I loved about McQueen was his talent for acting on screen when there was no dialogue, he had that rare ability to convey so much just through his expressions and body language, his on screen presence was undoubtedly his biggest talent and one that was only matched in my opinion by Clint Eastwood and the late great Marlon Brando. He has without doubt played some of motion pictures greatest characters such as 'Hilts' in the Great Escape, 'Vin' in the Magnificent Seven, 'Bullitt', 'Doc Mcoy' in the Getaway, 'Henri 'Papillon' Charriere' in Papillon , 'Michael O'Hallorhan' in Towering Inferno and of course 'The Cincinnati Kid', and in my opinion deserves to be in anybody's top ten.
9. Jack Nicholson:
Jack Nicholson is one of those actors that you either love or hate; I obviously love him and find his neurotic and irascible acting style refreshing and diverse. I love that no matter what role he is playing he gives the impression that he could turn into a mad man in an instant and his acting style almost intimidates the viewer and he has the ability to be slightly creepy while charming at the same time, and his sarcastic sense of humour is very entertaining in an industry full of predictable boring male protagonists.
Predictable and boring Nicholson isn't and like Pacino he is a very explosive actor, very in your face and if you don't like it then who gives a s***. His most memorable roles for me were as 'Gittes' in Chinatown, 'McMurphy' in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, 'Jack Torrance' in The Shining, 'Col Jessep' in a Few Good Men, 'Joker' in Batman and 'Melvin Udall' in As Good As It Gets. Love him or hate him he is without doubt one of the finest actors around and it is hard to imagine Nicholson doing anything else.
8. Daniel Day Lewis:
Daniel Day Lewis is one of those actors who is often overlooked when it comes to these kinds of lists, and in a sense I can understand why as he hasn't done a huge list of films and keeps himself to himself, but that is why I admire him so much, the fact that he does this job purely for the love of it and this shows in his brilliant performances. Daniel Day Lewis is very selective when it comes to film roles and rarely will you see two films in the same year starring him, in fact he usually does one every couple of years, but when he does do a film there are few actors who can give a performance with such devotion and passion. A real modern day method actor, Day Lewis immerges himself into the characters he plays and almost becomes that person until filming is finished, of course it is well documented that method acting can be detrimental to the mind and soul which maybe why Day Lewis only works every couple of years.
Who can forget his mesmerizing portrayal of 'Christy Brown' in My Left Foot, a truly amazing piece of work and as 'Bill 'The Butcher' Cutting in Gangs of New York and more recently as 'Daniel Plainview' in There Will Be Blood. His commitment, passion and devotion to his work are admirable and his talent is up there with the best and he is now one of the most respected actors in the business not just by his peers but by movie fans and critics.
7. Clint Eastwood:
For me Clint Eastwood is one of those actors who should be in everyone's top ten, ok so many of you might not agree and my friends and I have argued over this many times, some of my friends think he is over-rated but I couldn't disagree more. There are certain levels of movie star, there are those actors that are well known like, Jack Black, Adam Sandler and Robert Downey Jnr, then there are movie stars like, Bruce Willis, Tom Cruise, Ewan McGregor and there are movie legends such as Steve McQueen, Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro and Paul Newman. Eastwood definitely belongs in the latter category, he is as big a star as they come and in my opinion should be in everyone's top ten just on screen presence alone, no actor in history oozes machismo masculinity like Eastwood he is the ultimate alpha male and never has anyone been able act with just there eyes like Eastwood can, he has motion pictures greatest stare.
And not only this but the guy can act as well and has given us some of motion pictures greatest icons 'The man with no name' from the Dollars trilogy, easily the greatest cowboy of all time and he also played the greatest cop of all time 'Dirty Harry'. And not only is he a great actor but he also one of the finest directors around today bringing us films like 'Unforgiven', Bridges of Madison County', 'Mystic River', 'Million Dollar Baby' and the more recent 'Gran Torino'. As well as all this he is a producer and composer, his talents are endless and his longevity unmatched and that is why he should be in everyone's top ten
6. Leonardo DiCaprio:
Ok so this maybe a controversial choice as many people might wonder how I could put DiCaprio ahead of Nicholson and Eastwood etc, but in my opinion he is the finest YOUNG actor around and anyone who has seen his performance in 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' will surely be as puzzeld as me why he never one an oscar for that role, that performance was breathtaking.
With the exception of 'Titanic' I can't think of one film DiCaprio has been in where his performance has not been exceptional, from his early films like 'The Basketball Diaries', 'Marvins Room' and 'This Boys Life' to his great performances in 'Romeo and Juliette', 'The Beach', 'The Departed', 'Blood Diamond', ' The Aviator' and 'Body of lies', his acting is flawless and in my opinion he is the most under rated actor around. The only thing that puts Johnny Depp ahead of DiCaprio is that Depp takes on more challenging and unique roles where as DiCaprio tends to play it safe with similar kinds of roles (Gilbert Grape aside), but that doesn't change the fact that DiCaprio is a brilliantly talented actor and I am sure that if he keeps going the way he is going and maybe if he takes on some more challenging roles then in many years to come he will be regarded as one of the best of all time.
5. Sir Anthony Hopkins:
If ever there was an actor who is the total opposite to Jack Nicholson but is just as good, if not better it is Sir Anthony Hopkins. One of Wales' greatest exports and a great film and theatre actor, Hopkins style of acting is quite understated compared to many actors on this list, but he pulls it off with such ease and makes it seem so effortless.
There are many actors who are particularly good in a certain genre of film but Hopkins is one of those actors who could act in any type of film and still steal every scene he is in. His most memorable roles are his disturbing but brilliant portrayal of 'Hannibal Lecter' in The Silence of the Lambs, 'Richard Nixon' in Nixon, 'Picasso' in Surviving Picasso, 'John Quincy Adams' in Amistad, 'Jack Lewis' in Shadowlands and 'James Stevens' in The Remains of the Day. Watching Hopkins act is a joy and his performances are consistently brilliant and flawless, a true British treasure.
4. Marlon Brando
Marlon Brando would perhaps be many peoples first choice but for me being a great actor is about the whole package and this is where Brando falls short for me. Some of his performances are undoubtedly breathtaking and his style was groundbreaking and set a new president for acting at that time, and some of his performances will go down as the greatest of all time, but for a period of time and as Brando said in his own words he 'lost himself to self loathing and self-parody' and became more well known for his sulks rather than his acting ability and will not only be remembered for his great talent but also his huge list of personal embarrassments.
This aside though Brando in terms of acting is about as good as they come, his performance in 'A Street Car Named Desire' brought about a new revolution in acting and the audience were shown for the first time how far an actor could be pushed emotionally and physically and this is widely considered to be the best performance by an actor of all time and Brando became an instant star. Brando gave us many more world class performances in films like' On the Waterfront', 'Last Tango in Paris', 'Viva Zapata', 'The Young Lions' and of course the brilliance that is the 'Godfather'. He will be forever regarded as one of the greatest of all time but for me personally he doesn't quite make the number 1 spot.
3. Al Pacino
You maybe surprised that Pacino is not my number 1 considering my user name, but it was the first thing that came to mind when registering with Dooyoo, so that explains why he is my username, anyway he is still one of my favourite actors and easily one of the best of all time. Well known for his explosive, intense acting style, Pacino at his best is nothing short of sensational and in terms of entertainment is the best actor to watch on screen. The first Pacino film I ever saw was 'Dog Day Afternoon' and from that moment I was a huge fan, the film is truly brilliant as was Pacino's performance and for anyone who hasn't seen it you really should give it a watch, this is early vintage Pacino at his best.
Pacino's intensity on screen is pure genius and unpredictable and he is brilliant to watch and it is hard to take eyes off him when he is on screen, he does without doubt have that x-factor and the list of great performances is endless from his early work that includes 'Serpico', 'Godfather', 'Scarface' to his awesome performances in 'Scent of a Woman', 'Carlito's Way', 'Heat', 'Devils Advocate', 'Donnie Brasco', 'Any Given Sunday', the list just goes on. Ok so we haven't really had vintage Pacino for a good 10 years now but he is and will be forever regarded as one of the greatest actors of all time.
2. Johnny Depp
First of all sorry Jan, I hope you understand my reasons...lol.
It was so difficult not to put Depp as my number one, especially as at the current time he is my favourite actor and is by far the best actor in the world at the moment, but I simply can't compare him to my number one at this stage in his career.
What makes Depp stand out as the best at the moment is his uniqueness and the choices he has made in his career, he could of so easily took the easy route and been a Hollywood heart throb and leading man in many a rom/com, but his desire to play the Hollywood game the way he wanted to and stay true to his beliefs was/is his greatest asset.
Never before has there been such a diverse actor and never before has an actor been criticized so much for taking on certain projects only to go and prove everybody wrong time after time. What make's him such a good actor is obviously first and foremost his talent, but also his honesty and integrity, with Depp what you see is what you get, no frills, a man who likes the simple life away from the glitz and glammer of Hollywood and his life story is truly inspiring as is his perception of the world . What I also love about Depp is that he is always ready to challenge an audience's perception of what a Hollywood actor should be, a challenge that he overcomes every time. But odd characters and risky film selections aside he is the most talented actor of his generation and everything he does is critically acclaimed, and he never fails to disappoint. His collaborations with best friend and confident Tim Burton have brought to the screen some truly magical experiences and some of his most memorable characters include, 'Captain Jack Sparrow', 'Ichabod Crane', 'Donnie Brasco', 'Edward Scissorhands', 'Ed Wood', 'Willy Wonker', 'Don Juan' and 'Gilbert Grape'.
1. Robert DeNiro
For me personally there is only one actor I can put in the top spot and that is the sensational Robert DeNiro.
In my opinion he is the greatest actor of all time and a master of his craft. An amazing method actor who raised the bar in terms of how acting should be approached and the task undertaken. To say he is a master of his craft is an understatement; he is the bench mark that every aspiring actor should be aiming for.
For me every single performance he gives is flawless, and even in the more recent films that have been nowhere near vintage DeNiro, his acting is still flawless, take the recent 'Righteous Kill' for example, the film wasn't very good and Pacino looked a shadow of the actor he used to be but DeNiro despite the film being poor still gave a faultless performance and that is what he has done consistently for the past 45 years, it doesn't matter how poor the films have been, DeNiro's performances have always been 1st class.
The way he physically changes his appearance for roles is testament to his commitment to his craft, he gets inside the characters he is playing and literally becomes them. The first DeNiro film I saw was 'The Deer hunter' and I was blown away with his performance, his performance as Jake LaMotta in 'Raging Bull' also blew me away, his performance in 'Awakenings' was breathtaking, then there is his performance as Jimmy Conway in 'Goodfellas' and as Travis Bickle in 'Taxi Driver' and as a young Vito Corleone in 'Godfather 2', the list is endless and I can honestly say I have never seen DeNiro give a bad performance, even when he was criticized for moving into comedy with films such as 'Meet the Parents' no one can deny he played the part of the intimidating, overprotective father in law brilliantly well, there is just nothing DeNiro cannot do in films.
There has only ever been and ever will be one DeNiro and that why he is my number 1 actor of all time.
Some actors that just missed my top ten were, Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman, James Stewart and Michael Caine.

These are my top 10 sexy actors, it was hard to condense them all but I think I've done it
1) The Rock (Dwayne Johnson)
I love muscle men & this guy has everything from the amazing body to the perfect smile.
2) Channing Tatum
For anyone that doesn't know who this s he's the sexy guy from Step Up & She's the man. He's absolutely gorgeous!
3) Jude Law
I know he's quite old but there's just something about him, I don't know whether it's his posh accent or just the fact that he's ruggedly handsome but I fall in love with Jude Law in every film of his I watch.
4) Brad Pitt
Probably the ultimate pin up, he's just drop dead gorgeous whichever way you look at it. The only reason I watched fight club was because I had seen photos of him with his top off in it & wow what a body!
5) Danny Dyer
I love bad boys & Danny Dyer is the ultimate bad boy, I love his cockney accent & his hairy chest, I'm not really into hairy guys but he definitely does it for me.
6) Matt Damon
I don't think id seen much of Matt Damon before the Bourne films & when I first saw him I thought wow!
7) Johnny Depp
What can you really say about Johnny Depp? Even dressed like a rough pirate he still manages to look sexy & I don't think any other guys would be able to pull that off! He just gets better with age.
8) Keanu Reeves
I absolutely loved him in speed, he's got a really sexy voice & of course he's incredibly good looking.
9) Orlando Bloom
Sometimes I like Orlando sometimes I don't, I don't really like skinny guys like him I like guys with a bit of muscle on them although he does have a gorgeous face.
10) Matthew Mcconaughey
This guys has it all, the looks, the body & the personality. He's definitely the whole package!
It seems like Ive got something in common with all of the other ladies whove written a review about sexy actors, keeping the list down to only ten is incredibly hard, but I think Ive finally done it.
- Jude Law
Theres just something about Jude Law that I cant quite put my finger on (well, all of him, if you take that comment literally). Obviously hes one of the beautiful people, a talented actor, much sought after (and not just for his acting ability) always got a beautiful lady on his arm, etc. Still, behind all of that charm theres something just a bit mean about him, something about the set of his jaw or a certain coldness in his eyes that just makes me think hes a bit of a bad guy underneath. Still, hes certainly hawt, and to be honest probably shouldve made it higher than bottom place on my final list.
- David Boreanez
The pretty boy with the big fangs from Buffy is now all grown up and perfectly formed. Hes in a really good series at the moment called Bones, and I make sure I watch it every week to lust aft I mean, because its so excellent. Actually, it really is excellent, but so is Mr Boreanez. Hes matured from the good-looking youngster who, lets be honest, looked just a little unfinished. Nowadays hes carrying the confidence and just a tiny bit of arrogance that shows that hes all growed up and knows it. Rawr!
- David Duchovny
Ive always held a little candle for Mr Duchovny since I first saw him in the X files, even though he always wore those damn suits and acted like he had a pencil constantly clenched in between his cheeks. But occasionally in the X files youd get to see him in ordinary clothes, or sometimes a little less, and those rare glimpses definitely caught my interest. Then the X files finished and I relished seeing more of Dave in Evolution. Ive always had a bit of a thing about really dark hair with pale skin, probably spent too much time around Goths as a teenager, but Davids a perfect example of exactly what I like. Now Californication means I can see even more of him than ever. Bliss.
- Robbie Coltrane
Of course Im serious. I know hes a bit older nowadays and not a classic Adonis, but Ive been a little bit in love with Mr C since the Cracker days. Cracker was all man with none of the rough edges knocked off, and I liked him an awful lot. Since then, everything Ive seen Robbie in has just made me like him more, well, apart from the Harry Potter films, cant say Hagrid did much for me. Hes got huge amounts of charisma, beautiful eyes and hes another one that I reckon could be a bit of a ruffian, given half the chance. Why do women always go for the bad boys, anyway?
- Daniel Craig
The new James Bond really is too hot to handle. Hes far more than just a bit of rough, hes rougher than a erm well a very, very rough thing, thats what. Before Casino Royale was released I remember my husband telling me that the new Bond was going to be blonde, I was mildly disappointed as Id always imagined Bond to have my preferred raven hair. Black hair always looks so damn good with a dinner jacket. But within seconds of setting eyes on Mr Craig his hair colour was forgotten, this is a man who could drink my martini any day of the week, shaken or stirred.
- Ewan McGregor
Not only is Ewan McGregor absolutely blooming gorgeous, but hes a family man too, the perfect package. I fell in love with him in Shallow Grave, first time Id ever seen him, but it was when he played Renton in Trainspotting that I really went head over heals for him. I dont know if it was my mothering instinct kicking in or if its just the same old good girl attracted to bad boy thing again, but now that Im hooked on Ewan nothings going to drag me away again. Im currently watching the Long Way Down every week for my McGregor fix, but no, Im going to resist the urge to make jokes like he could ride me the long way down any day. Oops.
- Jonny Lee Miller
Another one from Trainspotting, this time its Sick Boy who caught my fancy. The character he plays in this film is somewhat sick, hence the moniker, but Id actually seen him before in the pretty appalling Hackers against Angelina Jolie when he played the good guy, and even that didnt put me off. Unfortunately, hes now beginning to lose his hair, and although I generally find that doesnt affect my attraction to a guy at all (think Bruce Willis, yum!) with Jonny Lee Im finding my flame is on the wane. Hes got a bit of an oddly shaped head, you see, where that gorgeous shock of hair used to be hes now got an incredibly high forehead, and without the hair to balance out his face, his chin seems to stick out. I really wish hed just take the plunge and get what hair he has left shaved off rather than staying in this semi-bald limbo, its doing him no favours. So for old times sake Jonny Lee still gets my number 4 spot, but he used to be number one.
- James McAvoy
This is quite a new crush for me, but its hit hard. Theres just something about James eyes that I find absolutely captivating. Of course, hes also got my favourite dark hair and pale skin, but those eyes are definitely his best feature. Maybe its because theyre so very, very blue and thats pretty rare in a dark haired person. Or maybe its because hes an adept at the unblinking stare, but whatever it is, I hope he doesnt stop doing it. He also has an incredibly sweet smile that makes him look almost boyish. Ive got the feeling hes going to be one of those lucky guys that just gets better with age, too.
Another of those men who just gets better with age, and probably the man Ive lusted after the longest on this list, with the possible exception of Robbie Coltrane. Keanu, or Canoe, as my husband has always called him is, once again, the perfect example of black hair and pale skin that I keep going for, and until I wrote this list I didnt even realise that I had a type. With Keanu, whilst the acting isnt always perfect, hes got the vacant stare down pat. He originally caught my eye in Bill and Ted, but I think he was at his best around the time of Speed, though obviously he looked pretty darn special in the Matrix too. Personally I like to see him with a bit of a floppy fringe, though shorter hair suits him well too. I dont even mind the beard. Hes looking damn fine for a man whos already seen his 40th birthday, and long may he continue to do so.
- Kris Marshall
Or you may know him better as Nick Harper from My Family. No? Well how about the guy from the latest BT ads, the tall strawberry blonde one? Strangely for me my number one sexeh actor at the moment is not pale and raven-haired at all, but ginger. If youve ever seen him in My Family then youll know that hes a very, very funny guy, and humour goes a long way in attracting me. But this isnt a poll for my top ten nicest actors, you want to know why I find this person attractive, and Im going to tell you. Not only is he tall with broad shoulders, my absolute favourite feature in a man, but hes got a damn fine body too if I had to sum up the one thing that makes Kris stand out from every other man on TV at the moment, it would be his killer smile. It just makes me go week at the knees. Its a knowing smile, but also warm and open, with a hint of promise around the edges. Phew, now Im getting all hot under the collar.
Anyway, thats my ten, the others will just have to make do with a mention. Relegated to the second division were Sean Connery, though only just, hes still a God. Johnny Depp, a real toughy to leave out, very nearly took Robbies place. Brad Pitt, nuff said. Bruce Willis, because I adore the real man-ness about him. And, if I wasnt limited to only actors, the lovely Russell Howard. I could go on and on, but Ill stop myself here, before I really begin to bore you.
I've decided that writing this review will be just the thing to take my mind off a hard day at work.
Am I alone in thinking that men are getting prettier these days? Getting highlights in their hair, wearing moisturiser, etc. I like my men to be big rugged brutes. I just dont get the whole Jude Law and Orlando Bloom thing. Theyd never be masterful enough for me. Each to their own I suppose. Here are the objects of my fantasies.
Ive committed so many transgressions.
Drinking wine before noon on a weekday .
Being given too much change and not owning up
Not putting back library books
To my mind, all of them warrant having Kiefer handcuff and punish me. Theres nothing sexier that a man who knows how to interrogate by force. The tattoos, the guns, the stubble it all has me squirming in my seat. Thank God Im a woman!!!!
I fell in love with Bruce at the age of seven, when he sizzled on the screen with Cybil Shepherd in Moonlighting, and Ive been lusting after him ever since. I like his quirky smile and sly humour. I love him all sweaty and dirty in the Die Hard films. Bruce is a man that doesnt take himself too seriously. I thought he was great when he appeared in Friends, which he only did because he lost a bet with Matthew Perry. There are not many men who would make friends with their ex-wifes tomboy. It shows just how down to earth he is, which is quite important I think.
Goran Visnjic (Dr Luka in ER)
This darkly handsome Croatian actor has the sort of mesmerising good looks that could have me staring at him for hours with a ridiculous grin on my face. His voice is so sexy that he could read aloud the obituary notices in a newspaper and it would turn me on. As an added bonus, as if he needed one, he is a trained paratrooper with the Croatian army. I do like a man in uniform!
Ive seen what the man can do with a whip, and I like it. He oozed with sex appeal playing Indiana Jones the object of many of my fantasies! The reality is that if he tried to pick me up and throw me onto the bed hed probably end up needing a hip replacement.
There is just something about Johnny Depp, some sort of mysterious allure that makes him so attractive. I love his chiselled looks, his tattoos, and beautiful brown eyes. He is an awesome actor, and a really cool guy. Apparently he is one of the best actors for giving out autographs, so he hasnt got too big for his boots. I really like the fact that he stays away from the whole Hollywood scene when he isnt working.
James Denton (Mike in Desperate Housewives)
James Denton plays the sexy plumber, Mike Delphino in Desperate Housewives. If he lived on my street Id most definitely be inviting him round to check my pipes. He claims to have had a really raunchy sex life before he settled down with his wife, including having sex with a girl on his lap while driving on the highway. Lucky girl.
I cant believe the guy is 41; he just doesnt seem to have aged since he appeared in Bill and Ted. He seems to have a reputation for being a bit stupid, owing to his shy demeanour and the monotonous rhythm of his speech. Its a shame really, as he seems to be quite a nice guy. Few men could look as cool in sunglasses and a long black overcoat as he does in the Matrix. His exotic dark looks leave me drooling.
No list of sexy men would be complete with out a Latin lover. Antonio has a potent sexuality, and a strong earthy masculinity about him. He is truly thigh tremblingly gorgeous. It is no wonder that his wifes paranoia about him being seduced away from her has led to an addiction to plastic surgery. Ive no idea what he is like as a person, and I dont really care!!
Joaquin is a really striking man, and I think its his scar is what makes him so attractive to me. Hes also a big animal lover, and works as a spokesperson for PETA. When he posed for an anti-fur poster campaign he not only looked drop dead gorgeous, but he won major brownie points with me. Im sure hed be delighted if he knew that! Joaquin is an extremely talented actor, and proved he can sing in Walk the Line. Id love to go out with a man that could sing and be serenaded by him! The only downside to going out with Joaquin would be that hes a committed vegan, so Id have no chance of being treated to a steak dinner.
No, youve not read it wrong. No, its not an obscure Hollywood actor, Im referring to, it is in fact the British Jimmy Nail. Yes, Im aware the majority of people will find it weird. Ive been getting a slagging for my Jimmy Nail crush for years. If I met the guy in a pub, I would be attracted to his accent, and very rugged good looks. Theres just something sexy about him in Auf Weidersehen Pet, and hes funny. So there.
Considering my life is spent watching DVDs it should come as no surprise that I have a list of top ten hunkiest actors. Some of them are so mouth watering that I think if I ever met them I really would be speechless, and coming from a person like me, that takes a lot!
10) Kevin Spacey
I completely adore this man; I think his intelligence is what makes him so attractive. Such a caring and talented man I cant think of one woman who wouldnt be drawn in by those dark eyes and charismatic smile. His acting is superb as well; his performance in American Beauty really impressed him. He may not be everyones first choice and yes he may be a little bit too old for me but I still see him as one of the most sexiest and talented actors around.
9) Owen Wilson
I love this guy, every single film he is in he has managed to make me laugh. I think I like him so much because of his nose. Yes I know its a strange and broken nose but I think thats what makes him attractive. His flaw sort of adds to his sexiest. When you look at his nose doesnt even matter because it adds to his uniqueness. I also think he is extremely funny which probably makes him even more attractive; humour is the best way to a girls heart!
8) Brad Pitt
I know I know, he is a bit of an obvious choice, and I bet hes on everyones list. And I bet everyone thinks its a bit strange to have him so low on my list, well I do have my reasons. Yes he has been voted the best looking man in the world a few times and yes he is dating one of the most attractive women in the world but he isnt that great. I think he has typical good looks, strong chin, big eyes, nice six pack which does make him attractive. But to me he seems a little bit too perfect which I dont like that much. Yes he makes my list but hes definitely not the best looking!
7) Orlando Bloom
I had to put Mr Bloom on here because he is every teenage girls crush. Such delicate features and what a sweet elf he made. What a swashbuckling pirate he makes too, always have to love a guy who is good with a sword. This guy is amazingly good looking and has a lovely little body to go with it. I dont think hes a very good actor but who cares, all we want is a little bit of eye candy, am I right?! Oh yes and he loves his dog as well and you have to fancy a guy who is an animal lover.
6) Edward Norton
I first came across this actor when I watched Fight Club for the first time. Well what a brilliant actor with such good looks. Ok so he may not be the most brilliant looking actor of all time with conventional good looks but I find him extremely attractive. His floppy brown hair and puppy dog eyes make him extremely cute and having such a wonderful personality does help a great deal. God I sound like I have him over for tea all the time! Anyway a very cute guy who has a nice body and he seems so manly when punching other guys in Fight Club.
5) Goran Visnjic
I bet some people are saying who the hell is that?! Well hes the guy from ER, doctor plus amazingly good looks will definitely make any girl fancy him. The Croatian hunk is definitely one of the best looking men on TV. He has dark brooding eyes which could melt any girls heart. I loved him in Practical Magic because he played a bad guy, why is it then when they are bad guys they suddenly become more attractive. Very odd indeed! Anyway lovely looking guy who really does grab my attention whenever hes on the TV. Whenever you hear that ER theme tune, you know that Im sitting down watching it!
4) Keanu Reeves
Yes I fancy Neo, watching him in that gun fight scene from the first Matrix, wow what a gorgeous guy. Note to self, Keanu, guns, shades equals some good TV. I loved him in Speed, he just seemed to have amazing arm muscles in that film and if one thing that attracts me to a man most of all is arm muscles. I know I know Im weird. Oh I also loved him in A Walk in the Clouds, what a chick flick but hes just so cute and delicious in that I just wish that I could kiss him while watching that film!
3) Christian Bale
Yes number three in my list has to be Batman! The dark crusader has defiantly won my heart but strangely enough he didnt come to my attention as the hero. Instead I began to fancy him as the psychotic Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. Why are all the insane men the most gorgeous?! Oh my his body was certainly up to perfection in that film and his voice is one of most sexiest voices I have ever heard in my life! Yes playing a murdering psycho does drop him some points but he definitely made them up in Batman, seeing him in that suit definitely gave the crusader a boost in the sexiness factor.
2) Josh Holloway
What is it with me and the bad boys at the moment?! The mean talking Sawyer from Lost has to be one of the sexiest men on television. With his long runaway hair and tough Texan accent, oh and not forgetting his amazing body he definitely is one of my favourite guys. I also love his eyes; they just seem so devilish which is an added sexy factor. And that smile! Whoa how great is his smile, it just oozes charisma which you just have to love. Yes his character on Lost does make him seem all the more attractive but who cares, I can live in TV world cant I?
And so it comes down to numero uno. My number one sexy actor and this one I find to be so drop dead gorgeous I would practically faint if I ever saw him.
1) Jake Gyllenhaal
Yes the gay cowboy he may be, but one damn fine looking gay cowboy he made. That film did not do him enough justice, now he seems to have an absolutely amazing body with muscles to die for! And that beard, yes I know that sounds strange, not many men can pull off facial fuzz but he manages to give it a bit of style and class. I first came across this actor in the film Donnie Darko playing the slightly disturbed character Donnie. He does look a bit strange in that film; well what do you expect hes playing a guy talking to a giant rabbit! But wow did he change for The Day after Tomorrow. Looking like a cheeky chappy he certainly has everything to make me fancy the socks off him. He has an absolutely adorable and sexy face, a sexy body with arm muscles yummy. Hes a brilliant actor and definitely tops my list of sexiest actors. What I wouldnt do just to meet this guy!
And some men who didnt quite make it to my list but hold a certain part within my heart are: David Tennant from Doctor Who, who I find absolutely delicious. David Duchovney from the X-Files. Tom Welling the hunk from Smallville. Jensen Ackles from Supernatural. Dermot Mulroney from My best friends Wedding and of course Johnny Depp.
After a rather uninspiring night at my local Chicago Rock café where the talent was spread pretty thin I thought I would write about my top ten dreamy hunks from the world of film and TV.
Brad Pitt is my all time number one as I just love that twinkle he has in his eyes, I must admit I hate Angelina Jolie for baring his child when it could so easily have been me.
Gorgeous George Clooney runs him a close second mind, I have always had a thing about men in uniforms and George in his doctors scrubs was such a turn on, it is a shame that now I cannot get a weekly fix but have to wait for his latest film to be released.
Matt Dillon has for me a certain dangerous look about him that I really go for in a man
Mathew McConaughey has those wonderful steely blue eyes that seem to look straight through you when he is on the screen and I love his hair I just want to run my fingers through it. At this rate I will need a cold shower before I get to number ten.
Ben Affleck was the main reason that I watched both of the Bourne Identity films; he is very smooth with a bit of the boy next door about him that I find irresistible.
Mel Gibson is probably the oldest bloke in my list and he is there because of his eyes and another boy who looks a bit dangerous and wild.
Johnny Depp is another bad boy who makes my top ten and is in my opinion the most talented actor out of the whole lot of them; he looks like the sort of hunk that would really know how to have a great night out clubbing.
Clive Owen is the first Brit to make my list mainly because he looks so cool and stylish every time that I see him either on screen or in the magazines attending some party or film premier.
Rob Lowe is another Hollywood hunk who I find really attractive and I have been a big fan of his for a number of years, definite marriage material in my eyes.
Justin Chambers from Greys Anatomy is another one who meets my men in doctors whites criteria and he is a real hunk of a bloke and can check out my poorly bits any time he likes.
Now it is definitely time for a cold shower.
Well, I fancied doing this opinion. Its a light-hearted bit of fun and gives me an excuse to think of actors I find sexy. Hardly a taxing occupation!
Having said that though, actors is quite a tight brief. No singers (Sorry Dave Gilmour and Paul Heaton), no comedians or presenters (Russell Brand, Dermot OLeary, Jonathon Ross), no sports stars (Yep, Wayne Rooneys on my list!) just actors.
Having said that, I did come up with a shortlist of thirty-four that I had to reduce to a mere top ten! Eek! So how did I do this? Well, to me, sexiness is much more than classic good looks. I believe a man has to be intelligent to be sexy (Okay, apart from Wayne Rooney!). He has to have charisma, a good personality and be the kind of man youd want to be with and not just for a quick fling either!
So, bearing in mind that Im a married woman and any such encounter would in real life have to be platonic, heres my top ten sexy actors.
1st - David Tennant
Dr Who, Casanova, Blackpool
I think it was during Casanova that I fell in love with David Tennant, but as the leading role in Dr Who, hes pretty much perfect all round, isnt he? Tall, good looking with a sexy Scots lilt. From interviews, he seems charming, witty and intelligent. What more could we ask for? Well, maybe that he dumps Sophia Myles, but otherwise
2nd - Colin Baker
Dr Who, The Brothers
I didnt fancy Colin Baker until I saw him on stage in 1996. I first met him in January 1997 and have met him several times a year since, the most recent being a few weeks ago in Cheltenham. Hes currently touring in Strangers on a Train, which is brilliant, well worth seeing.
Hes exactly two years older than my Dad, but I dont care, hes still sexy! Extremely intelligent, a brilliant orator and entertainer.
3rd - Ramin Karimloo
Musical actor Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables
You probably wont have heard of Ramin, but check out his website here - http://www.raminkarimloo.net/ - isnt he gorgeous? My daughter and I met him last week after seeing him play Chris in Miss. Saigon. He was amazing! Hes a great actor and singer and when we met him, he proved to be a real gentleman polite, charming, friendly and intelligent.
4th - Noel Clarke
Dr Whos Mickey, Auf Wiedersehen Pet
Noel Clarke wasnt known to me until he turned up in Dr Who last year as Mickey. Hes recently left the series, but who could forget him? He is good looking, comes across as being quick-witted and funny in interviews and is apparently very kind to fans, being happy to sign autographs. My teenage daughters think hes fit too, so its not just housewives in their mid-thirties (Yep, thats me!) either.
5th - Robin Askwith
Confessions films, currently the Child Catcher in the stage version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
I was brought up on 1970s British Comedy and still love it. Robin Askwith comes from that background. He appeared in Carry On Girls, Bless This House and is best known for starring in the Confessions films.
I first met him in 1984 and hope to meet him again next year, when Chitty Chitty Bang Bang comes to Bristol. In the intervening years, I have written to him a couple of times and he has always replied with signed photos and friendly notes. Hes a real cheeky chappie, cute, just a little bit naughty and very sexy!
6th - Nitin Ganatra
Meet The Magoons, Holby Citys Sami
Nitin Ganatra is one of those actors you would probably recognise if you saw him, but you probably wont know his name. I absolutely adored Meet The Magoons when it was on Channel 4 last year and he was one of the main cast. As well as being classically good looking (if a bit on the short side), he comes across as being witty, intelligent and eloquent.
7th - Ivan Kaye
EastEnders Dr. Leroy, Bad Girls, The Green Green Grass
Another sexy actor is Ivan Kaye yes, I love the Welsh accent too! He has dreamy, smouldering, film star looks with lots of dark hair. Its a shame he had such an awful role in The Green Green Grass, he deserves much better.
8th - Hugh Quarshie
Holby Citys Ric Griffin
Hugh Quarshie is very good looking, but as Ric Griffin in Holby City, he also has that bedside charm that doctors are known for. I would feel safe with him, he looks like a man that can be relied upon and trusted. Hes got a lovely smile too. Very sexy.
9th - Alex Walkinshaw
The Bills Dale Smith
As Smithy in The Bill, Alex Walkinshaw is another cheeky chappie with a quick wit, a dimpled grin and a boyish charm about him. He seems very down to earth and maybe not as intellectual as some of the men on this list, but theres definitely a lot of sex appeal there.
10th - Liam Neeson
Schindlers List, Rob Roy, Les Miserables
Finally, Liam Neeson, a tall Irishman (Yep, another sexy accent!) with dark eyes and a kind of gentle giant vibe going on. Another man who comes across as dependable, clever, a good conversationalist and someone who could take you in his arms and keep you safe. I first noticed him in 1983 when he was in A Woman of Substance, which I loved.
So, to conclude, my top ten sexy guys consist of six white guys, two Asians and two black guys. Theres an Irish guy in there, a Scot, a Welshman and an Iranian-Canadian, but no Americans. The oldest is 63 and the youngest is 28.
And the others who didnt quite make the top ten? Here they are - Cyril Nri (The Bills Adam Okaro), Richard OBrien (Rocky Horror, The Crystal Maze), Richard OSullivan (Man About The House), Sid Owen (EastEnders Ricky, Im A Celeb ), Cliff Parisi (Minty in EastEnders), Paul Bradley (EastEnders Nigel, Holby City), Adrian Edmondson (now in Holby City), Colin Firth (Pride and Prejudice, Bridget Jones), Will Smith (I Robot, etc.), Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain, etc.), Todd Carty (EastEnders, Grange Hill, The Bill), George Christopher (Grange Hills Ziggy), Graham Cole (The Bill), Patrick Robinson (Casualty), Paterson Joseph (Casualty), David Walliams (Little Britain), Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean), Ronny Jhutti (EastEnders, Doctor Who), Jude Law (Alfie, etc.), Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill), Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction), Hugh Grant (Notting Hill), Mark Strickson (Dr Whos Turlough), Clive Mantle (Holby City)
Ok having just read a review on this subject I thought I would come up with my own little top ten sexy actor list...
In no particular order here they are:-
10th place Andrew Paul
The yummy PC Dave Quinnan who used to be in The Bill......never quite been the same since Dave left!
Joint 9th Alec and William Baldwin
What a pair! If ever a girl was up for having an illicit affair with her boyfriends brother then this is the duo I would choose LOL
8th place Kevin Sacre
The delicious but downtrodden Jake Dean from Hollyoaks fame.......Any lookalikeys out there drop me a message pleasssseeeeeee!!!
7th place Matt LeBlanc
The devine Joey Tribbiani, Italian Stallion who is a bit dumb but hey who cares with a body like his and eyes to die for! Ohhhh I could just squeeze his lovely bum too hehe.
6th place Richard Gere
Now I know Richard is a year younger than my mum but the man just has bags of sex appeal too, I did prefer him in his younger days of An Officer And A Gentleman fame but even with his grey hair he is still a very distinguished looking fella.......
5th place Brad Pitt
Well what can I say about Brad that hasn't been said about a billion and one girls already? Not a lot....the man is gorgeous. He oozes sexuality and wears those jeans soooo well too :-)
4th place George Clooney
Another sex god! This man just oozes charisma and sex appeal...from the minute he appeared in ER till he left it I was hooked on that show! He was drop dead gorgeous in From Dusk Til Dawn and If he is ever looking for a nice Scottish wife then I'm his woman hehe.
3rd place Patrick Swayze
Those muscles, those eyes, that chiseled chin mmmmmmm need I say anymore? (although these days not as handsome as he used to be)
2nd place Mel Gibson
I have loved Mel Gibson since first seeing him on screen in the Lethal Weapon films....He is all of the things I want in a man......good looks, eyes I could drown in and seems to have a good sense of humour as he plays a lot of practical jokes on other members of casts when working!
Finally in 1st place and by far the hottest bloke in the world has to be Tom Cruise....I'm just the perfect height for him....he's 5'7 and I'm 5'1 (although I do prefer guys taller than that I don't mind too much) He has the cutest boy next door looks and when he smiles he lights up a small country!
Phew well I'm all hot under the collar after looking at all of those sexy blokes pics again (purely for research purposes you understand?!?) ;-)
Thanks for reading
Now this is a category I do like here on dooyoo, top ten sexy actors. Now I just have the what seems like impossible challenge of finding out how to get my list of over one hundred guys down to just ten. My first thing I have done is to get down to just over twenty and now I have been analyzing the finalists for about three hours now I will tell you who made the list and then I must get back to doing some packing for my holiday as I have got so sidetracked with doing this review but hey who can blame me with so many good looking actors.
Now to be honest I do not know what it is with Bruce because he is not exactly great looking but he still oozes sex appeal. When you see him in a film I just think he looks excellent as he usually has tight vests on and is running around saving the world looking all hot and sweaty and it is sexy. The other thing is that he is just so cool and looks so cool and sounds so cool so I am attracted to his aura in a way.
Oh my god this guy is so good looking it makes you want to just lick the TV screen when you see him. He has the perfect body and he has a very boyish face which makes him more stunning than handsome as I think he has very distinctive features. It also helps that most of the time you do get to see him with his shirt off in films and in pictures in magazines and he looks good.
This guy should have been the next James Bond instead of that blonde one who has got the role. Clive is a sexy Brit and when you look at him you could seriously fall deep into those big eyes of his. He has the kind of looks that if he walked into a bar that everybody would stare at him because he has such intense good looks. I am saying it a lot in this review but voices count for a lot and he has got such a nice deep voice that I could listen to for hours. The other thing about him is that he wears clothes well and everything suits him. I try to see most films with him in because he is a brilliant actor and the fact that he is damn sexy too only helps.
The thing that works so well for Will is that he is incredibly funny and as every women knows a man has to make you laugh. He is very muscly and we have had lots of chances to see this in films but everything about him is so sexy from the way he speaks, to the characters he plays and then to the fact that he has a great physique. I always watch Wills films and have liked him since the early days and he is ageing beautifully. I think Will gets into my list because he is extremely funny.
Again I am not sure why I find this man so attractive but I really really do. I think he is one of our great British actors and there is just something about him as I actually think if he walked into my local pub I would not even look at him twice but yet I still find him incredibly sexy. This does have something to do with the characters that he plays as he plays guys who are just so nice most of the time that they are just wanted by the opposite sex. He always plays good roles too and again I think his voice plays a part in why I think he is attractive because he sounds really nice.
Thanks to Moulin Rouge this guy now looks ever so sexy in my eyes. I had not really noticed him before but in that film I could just fall for him so badly. He is so gorgeous with a gorgeous soft voice that could make me feel better any day and he looks so sweet that you just want to go and give him a kiss. Moulin Rouge is the film to watch him in though as this is where he looks extremely sexy indeed as he is clean shaven and him singing such romantic songs as well gets me in the mood any day.
Yes the new Doctor Who and I know he looks quite weedy and geeky but I just find him so attractive. I first clapped eyes on him in Casanova and thought I would so fall for his charms looking like that. The thing with David is that he has an expressive face and is always smiling which makes you just want to give him a hug. What makes him extremely sexy though is his eyes because they are so intense. Whenever I see him staring at girls in the programme I actually feel a little jealous because I wish it were me. He is a sex symbol in my eyes and I just cant wait for a moment in Doctor Who or another programme where he takes his shirt off. In fact if anybody from the show needs me to be a script writer for the day then I would happily oblige.
Another Brit hits the list and viewers of the TV show Shameless will know who James is as he played Steve. I first saw him as Mr Tumness and thought it was quite odd that I fancied a fawn and then when I saw what he actually looked like I was quite relieved as he is gorgeous. The thing with James is that he is so handsome he is just striking looking and I have not seen a bad photo of him yet. He has such great eyes that look like they could be so loving and I also think that his Scottish accent is extremely sexy.
I cant imagine many of you actually knowing who this guy is but to me he is one of the sexiest men I have ever seen. He stars in the TV show Roswell and also had a part in the Grudge with Sarah Michelle Gellar. He is tall, dark and handsome and has the type of body that you just want to go up and lick. My boyfriend refuses to watch anything with him in because he says I just sit there drooling at the screen and yes that is true but with somebody looking like this who can blame me. If you do not know who this guy is then type his name into google as he is sexy with a capital SEXY.
Now the Depp had to be on the list because he is so sexy whatever he does or looks like. Ok maybe not in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory now I think about it. He has such a beautiful and distinctive face and he has proved on countless numbers of occasions in films that he has a fantastic body. The fact that he stays with his girlfriend as well makes him sexy as you know he can commit to a relationship. The other thing about Depp is his voice. I am not sure how one voice can sound so sexy but Mr Depp manages it so well. I know countless numbers of women who swoon when they see or hear him and it is the same with me and to be honest I am going to choose him as my number one sexiest male actor.
So there you have it my list of sexy men and if any of you at home look like any of these men could I please have your number, just dont tell my boyfriend. Ones who just missed of the list include Brad Pitt, Johnny Knoxville, George Clooney, Orlando Bloom actually this list could go on for ages so I am going to stop there.
Thanks for reading.
