Advantages: Brilliant music!
Disadvantages: Had to leave out so many to narrow it down to ten!
Well this should be interesting... can I think of ten favourite songs? Only ten? I always feel a list like my top ten should be really seriously considered, as if I was going to be stuck on a desert island with only these ten songs to listen to for the next five years... or until the batteries on my CD player give up the ghost. So, I guess what I'll do is list those songs which I keep coming back to as my very own 'classics'. Even then, I think I'll have trouble keeping it down to just ten.
Should be interesting to see if anyone out there agrees with any of my choices - I'm afraid I don't go much for all this modern stuff. I read somewhere that most people tend to get stuck in their teens, musically speaking, and it's really difficult to pick up and love new music once you've aged beyond that. Well, I know it's not true for everyone - I have friends older than me who like modern music. Also, I have managed to enjoy some modern-ish music myself, but I think a lot of my personal 'classics' are songs that I really got into in my teens.
1 - Don't Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult. Something about this song is just so intense. I love the guitar riff, and it's one of those songs that just takes you over.
2 - Bat Out of Hell by Meatloaf. Turn this one up really loud - you have to listen to it loud - brilliant for driving!
3 - Blood on the Ice by Country Joe McDonald. This is actually a really beautiful protest song against the horrific Canadian seal cull.
4 - Give a Little Bit by Supertramp - actually, just about any Supertramp song would do!
5 - Torn by Natalie Imbruglia - see, I told you there were some slightly more modern ones in my list!
6 - You'll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers. Actually this should probably be up there at number one (except that I'm too lazy to go and re-type all the numbers). I suspect you have to have a deep and abiding affiliation with the colour red and a certain town in the north west of England to really appreciate this one - but if you do you'll know what I mean - it's an incredibly moving and powerful song.
7 - It Ain't Me Babe by Bob Dylan. Hardly needs an explanation, it is Dylan, after all! But I find the lyrics to this song particularly interesting.
8 - Save Up all Your Tears by Cher - again, just about any Cher song would do here - she is unsurpassed!
9 - Baby I Don't Care by Transvision Vamp - shame we never seem to hear of them these days.
10 - Forever Young by Joan Baez. A beautiful (Dylan?) song, beautifully sung.
Shame I have to limit it to just ten. There are so many more I would like to include. Maybe I'll come back in a few months and do a completely new list??? Now it's your turn...
Summary: A nice variety of music - just wish I could have added more.

- 02/08/08 I think Bat Out Of Hell is erotic lol....and awww I left "Don't Fear The Reaper" off my own top ten list. I should have made it into a top 20. |

- 01/08/08 A couple of good choices, some I wouldn't agree on, but a nice read! |
