Advantages: I love these songs
Disadvantages: Plenty in most peoples eyes
have mentioned this in previous reviews- my taste in music has caused me to come under fire from my work colleagues and friends. I will admit it I do like a bit of cheesy pop and dance music which isn't everyone's taste. I quote the guy I sit next to at work- "Laura, listening to you I-pod would actually make me jump out of the window, it's that bad!" I think that might be a little harsh but probably worthwhile mentioning before I launch into this review.
1) Heaven- DJ Sammy
This song originally was a Brian Adam's number however that was a little before my time. DJ Sammy brought this song out in 2002 and it brings back so many happy memories. It reminds me of when I met my boyfriend in 2002 and this was the song we both loved. I am aware it's not the best of tracks but it's the memories around this song .
I have listened to the Candlelight version (slower) once and actually cried! My boyfriend agree that when we (eventually) get married we don't have to even think this will be our first dance song!
2)Mr Brightside- The Killers-
My music taste has changed slightly over the years and I have started to move away from dance music and started to like more Indie music. This is proably my favourite song and if I have to request a song on a night out it will be this once. I turn from normal (well by my standards) to indie rocker and dance around like crazy when this song comes on. Memories wise it reminds me of being at uni and being played on nights out. Also reminds me of my graduation as this was the first song played in the bar after my graduation ceremony.
3) Pure Shores- All Saints
I was never a massive All Saints fan however I loved the film The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio and this song features in the soundtrack. It's one of those songs that just makes me feel chilled out and really happy
4) Flying Without Wings- Westlife
I'm sure I will get some stick for admitting to this but I was and always will be a Westlife fan. This is my favourite song by Westlife and I don't usually make my boyfriend dance with me to slow songs but I do to this one.
5) I Kissed a Girl- Katy Perry-
This is quite a recent song but reminds me of recent happy times dancing round with my friends like crazy people and making a bar full of people stare at us. song was played a lot around the time I returned from my trip to Africa when I was on a complete high so generally it's a really happy song!
6)Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen-
I love this song as there are so many different parts to it which makes it feel like more than one song. Again I think this is down to my mum's musical influence as she was a huge Freddy Mercury fan so it was played a lot when I was a child. It's a definite sing along song and me and my boyfriend do a fantastic rendition of the song.... Well after a few glasses of wine
7) 5,6,7,8- Steps
It's not the best of songs - I KNOW THAT!!! Buts it's the whole memories that this song brings to me! This reminds me so much of my childhood and teenage years and doing the steps dance at school disco's. I had perfected the dance to this when I was younger and even now I can remember the dance. When I was at uni this song was played in a club and I was straight up dancing , remembering the dance to this perfectly much to the amazement of my uni friends, who were falling all over the dance floor. It's become a bit of a legend and they have tried unsuccessfully to request this song when we have been out since, just so I show them the dance again!!
8) When It was me- Sweet XX
Its not a very well know song as it's a bit of a dance song- but more of a cheesy dance song (the reason I like this). It just reminds me of being at home and getting ready to go out with the girls. I also like the video to this and the outfits the girls wear in the video- very me!
9) Dancing Queen- Abba
It's a love or hate song and another one from before I was born, but I love it!!! I'm really close to my mum and her sisters and growing up this was one of their favourites. About 5 years ago it was played at a family party and my mum and her 4 sisters jumped onto a stage and danced away. It was such a funny moment and at the time I cringed as my boyfriend was present (who I had just started going out with). Luckily everyone seen the funny side and my uncle even recorded the whole display. I keep threatening them that I am going to put it on youtube as it's the best rendition of Abba Dancing Queen I have ever seen.
10) Gold - Spandau Ballet -
This song was released before I was even born but I absolutely love it. It was one of my mums favourite songs when I was growing up which she played all of the time I remember my mum getting ready for work or going out and listening to this as she got ready and dancing around. I used to sit on the bed watching her or trying on her jewellery singing along with her.
Summary: Completely cheesy I know!

- 26/02/09 As cheesy as some of this may be (and some of it really is), it can't be denied that most of these are instantly recognisable and that they define a certain time for quite a lot of people. Mr Brightside was a prominent song for a good year or two when I was at university. Great track. It's also nice to see that your number one song is one that has actually managed to mean something personal to you. A good list overall. |

- 18/02/09 Mr Brightside is awesome, it's in my top 4 songs of all time. Steps 5,6,7,8???? Are you mad??? Last Thing On My Mind is clearly their best work!
Nice review. |

- 18/02/09 Lol. Well, you have Queen and the Killers on your list. That's cool with me ^_^ I also love the slow version of 'Heaven'. It's gorgeous but the dance version annoys me. |
