Top ten TV characters
There are so many programmes I have watched over the years and found that this is quite hard to do. I have remembered series from past and present and now I brig you my favourite top ten TV characters…
1.
Kerr Avon (Blake’s 7 1978-1981)
Avon was one of the very first crew of the Liberator, the alien ship found in space. Avon was captured after forging documents to get him and his partner away from the Federation with all the credits he could carry, unfortunately he was captured before he could get to her and put on a ship bound for the prison planet Cygnus Alpha. It was then he met freedom fighter Blake.
Avon has good storylines in the series and is an interesting character to watch as he is so different from the others. He takes care of himself first, reacting when it concerns him. After the War which destroyed the space station Star One Avon took command of the Liberator. Series 3 and 4 of the series was when Avon really came out as the star of the show getting very good storylines.
2.
The Doctor (Doctor Who 1963-Present)
The Doctor is a time lord from the planet Gallifrey and decided that he could no longer just sit and watch while bad things were happening all over the universe, so he borrowed a TARDIS and with his granddaughter Susan started his time traveling…
The Doctor has had a lot of companions in his time, faced a lot of enemies, and dealt with many a tricky situation.
The Doctor has the ability to regenerate his body after the old one wears out or is wounded badly so is forced to regenerate so save himself. He has 13 lives and can regenerate 12 times.
So far the Doctor is in his 10th incarnation.
The Doctor is very interesting character as there is so much that he has done, so many changes in personality, and you never know where he will pop up next.
3.
Claire Bennett (Heroes 2007-Present)
Claire looks and acts like any normal teenager, she goes to school, is a cheerleader and has a family. But Claire has something else… her ability to heal her body within seconds of an injury and restore her back to normal. She has tried to see what happens as she jumps off a bridge while somebody films her and just dusts herself off and gets back to her life.
Her first heroic act was to save somebody from a big fire which she ran in to get the person and when she came out never had a scratch on her.
Claire is very interesting to watch as she is growing up with these powers wondering why she has them, looking for answers. She is trying to find her real parents to look for some answers. Her adopted father knows about her already and what she can do.
4.
Gary Sparrow (Goodnight Sweetheart 1993-1999)
Gary has a wife Yvonne, a good home and is a TV repair man. One day following a call out he takes a shortcut down Ducketts passage to ask for directions. He asks a Policeman who say’s he’s never heard of the place he is after. Gary looks at his surroundings, goes into the Royal Oak pub and think’s it’s all a theme when somebody mentions it’s 1940 but thinks he is dreaming and decides to play along with it all. He soon discovers it’s not and has found a time portal to take him back to War torn London.
He soons passes himself off as a secret agent, brings back food, drink and makes friends with Phoebe from the Royal Oak.
As the series progress Gary gets better storylines, does his bit for the War, gets together with Phoebe and still manages time to see his wife and best friend in the present day !
I like this character as he is just a normal bloke discovering something out of the ordinary. I find it funny the way Gary juggles his lives between past and present and the funniest episode of mine is when he has two meals at the same time 53 years apart !
5.
Arnold J Rimmer (Red Dwarf 1988-1999)
Arnold Rimmer is a vending machine repair man on the mining ship Red Dwarf on a three year mission into space. He is bunk mates with another member of the crew Dave Lister and on one fateful day for Rimmer he incorrectly repairs the drive plate to the ship and they suffer a radiation leak and are all wiped out with the exception of Lister.
Rimmer comes back as a hologram and says to Lister “I’m deader than a can of Spam”
Rimmer is quite happy to be in command of Red Dwarf being the most senior ranking abord.
Rimmer is my favourite in this series because he always has an answer for everything, is a complete coward, and has a longing to find alien beings. His arguments with Lister make it all the better and as the series progress he has some great storylines, meeting his alter ego Ace Rimmer, being involved in a show on backwards Earth, meeting new crew members and was in the series for nearly every episode having only been in two episodes of series seven.
6.
Horatio Hornblower (Hornblower 1998)
Horatio starts off his career as midshipman abourd the Justinain in Portsmouth 1794. It is not the best of starts for him as he is first sea sick, afraid of heights, awkward and nervous. He makes new friends and enemies and is tranfered to the Indefatigable under command of Captain Sir Edward Pellew.
Horatio makes his way up the ranks in the years to follow, with Lieutenant after saving a fleet of ships from destruction, all the way through to Captain while in various battles for King and country along the way.
I like Horatio as he seems as normal as anybody would be by first going on a vessel in a midshipman position at the time, he soon gets to grips with things and is a very good character to watch especially when it comes to the battle situations with France.
It is good to see him being promoted and finally some happiness for him at the end of the series.
7.
Stewie Griffin (Family Guy 1999-Present)
Stewie is a one year old baby of Peter and Lois, and has one aim in life World domination ! He is always plotting schemes to kill Lois and make weapons to conquer everybody.
While Stewie is doing all this he still carries around his teddies and the only one who he speaks to that can understand him is Brian the familys dog.
I like Stewie as he is such a funny character, he has had all of his plans thwarted accidentally such as Peter sitting on his ray gun destroying it. It is funny to see Stewie making all of these inventions and trying them out as he does get to on a few people. The funniest moment was when he was mind controlling Chris and the chip breaks down making him go after Stewie in the process.
8.
Hiro Nakamora (Heroes 2007-Present)
Hiro starts off as a blue collar worker for a firm in Tokyo, the job is boring and he wants something else out of his life. One day he concentrates on the office clock making it stop for four seconds. He is really proud of this and tells his friend Nando who works with him. Nando doesn’t belive him. so later when the two go out Hiro tells him that he can teleport himself to anywhere and he does so in the ladies toilets in a nightclub ! Nando believes him now. Hiros life is changed however when he teleports himself to New York and watches it get destroyed by a huge blast. He tells Nando and they go off on Hiro’s mission to save the World.
I like Hiro as he is not what you expect a hero to look or act like, he embraces his powers and is intent on his mission to save the World and nothing will stop him. Hiro has some really good storylines and is comical to watch and other times serious.
9.
Fox Mulder (The X-Files 1992-2001)
“Nothing down here apart from the FBI’s most unwanted” was Mulders first words to this series. Fox Mulder runs the X-Files which investigates the unexplainable goings on. Mulders memory of his sister being abducted by aliens has driven him to these investigations and he has always kept the file open on his sister. Mulder is teamed up with Dana Scully who believes there is always a scientific explanation for the goings on. Mulders character started off a bit strange as he always believed in the paranormal and nobody else did. As the series progressed Mulder had a very good relationship with Scully and the storylines got better as the seasons progressed with government conspiracies.
10.
Dirty Den (Eastenders various years)
Dirty Den was the soups most notorious bad boy. He slept with his daughters Sharon’s best friend Michelle and got her pregnant. He was involved with gangsters, dodgy dealings, had a mistress Jan, and run the Queen Vic pub with wife Angie. If there was anything going down you caould bet that Den would be involved somehow.
His character though always made sure Sharon was ok and done the best he could for her. There have been so many highlights in Den’s character and the most memorable being shot by the gangsters in 1989 and falling into the Thames aparantly being killed. When he arrived back in the square years later he got back control of the Queen Vic but with his dodgy schemes going on was killed in his own pub by Chrissie his new wife with Paulines dog door stop.
That’s my top ten even though I can think of a lot more good characters from over the years to add to this.
Hope you have all enjoyed.
Summary: My top 10

- 12/11/07 I loved that Eenders brought back Dirty Den - I didn't care that it was up there with the stupidity of Dallas, it was a camp classic. Also loving the Doctor at the moment, great review. |
