Advantages: You can never get bored of them
Disadvantages: I wish i had more time to watch TV
In considering what are my top ten television programmes of all time I had to think back over my whole life and really consider what i would go back to watch time and time again, My list contains a variety of types of programmes from different decades. Please comment on what you think of my list. As you may be able to tell from this list i'm a bit of a Channel 4 Junkie!
10) 8 Out of 10 Cats, I am a huge fan of Jimmy Carr and i think the guests they also bring on the show such as David Walliams, Alan Carr and Johnny Vegas, all adds up to make one of the funniest quiz shows on TV. Unfortunately every week i get the feeling that it is over too quickly because i have enjoyed it so much i want more! Its a great Idea for a quiz show based on statistics and quirky polls. I hope it can last like other quiz shows such as a question of sport.
9)The Bill, This ITV classic televison is something i have been brought up on since childhood, at one point the programme was very repeatative and practically the same narrative every week, but since the switch to an open narrative which allows for tha story to run and run, it has lead to the creation of an excellent programme covering interesting and realistic topics. Its now one of the best dramas ever.
8)Friends, This has got to be a popular choice in most peoples top ten programmes ever, what is so great about it is it doesnt take to much concentration to follow the narrative. I have been wathcing friends since the beginning, and i feel like the characters are like members of my family. its great conforting television to watch when you are ill.
7)Derren Brown(any of his programmes), I am amazed by derren, he has got to be one of the cleverest and most talented people on tv, i recently went to see his live stage show, and i can assure you that his tricks are nothing to do with camera tricks or payed actors. He is one very intelligent "showman" as he likes to be called, and i will watch anything which he makes.
6)Two Pints of lager and a packet of crisp, very similarly to friends its just great TV to watch when you are either too tired to watch something complicated or you are not feeling well, its a great little comedy that i can really relate to being based in a northern town.
5)Distraction, this extreme gameshow on channel 4 is where Jimmy Carr first became recognised for his great sarcastic sence of humour, the show showed contestent taking part in extreme challenges such as drinking their own urine, being given electric shocks if the buzz in for a question and also at the end of the show they had to answer questions to prevent the distruction of the prize they have won, such as their prize car being destroyed with sledge hammers.
4)Fawlty towers, This classic comedy has got to be one of my all time favourite shows, Although very few episodes were ever made it managed to create some of the greatest comedy characters and catchphrases ever, Basil Fawlty has got to be one of the most famous roles ever played by John Cleese, its great classic television.
3)Big Brother, This is the only reality television show to have a place on my list because it is the best ever reality show. I really enjoy working out the new characters and watching with psychological interest and for entertainment value. It can become addictive but i watch it like a sport, you choose your favourite and support them all the way.
2)Coronation Street, The longest running soap has to take place on my list, sipmly because i really do feel as if i have grown up with the street, the storylines are always interesting and unlike most soaps it has a great hint of comedy which appears, unlike the ever depressing eastenders. Characters such as the Platt family and the Barlow household have been on the street for years, this makes the programme so much more realistic and such a great prgramme to carry on watching.
1)Little Britain & The simpsons, I couldn't choose between them so I decided to let them share the top spot. The simpsons is a great animation which plays on american stereotypes to have a laugh at their own country. I believe that it has a great style of humour, it has great comedy timing and has very iconic characters, it has all it takes to be the greatest programme of all time. Little britain is simply the best new thing to come out of Britain in many decades the great comedy writing of Walliams and Lucas, Basing their characters on extreme national stereotypes, makes it so appealing to all. Great TV
