Top Ten TV Programmes... Ever!

Advantages: Reliving great scenes

Disadvantages: I want to watch Party of Five NOW

My top 10 TV programmes ever.... great question!

In no order because I love them all (almost) equally...

1. House MD
I just love this show. It's darkly comical and a great thing to watch when you want to be immersed in something. Hugh Laurie is brilliant as House, the crotchety genius. House uses other people to get to his goals, for example, Cuddy will be chastising him for some ridiculous stunt he's just pulled and she'll say something like "Is it all in your head?" and he just straightens up and walks out...to the patient with the foot problem...and scans his head, finding the problem and fixing it.

I enjoy all the medical terminology and the writing is always of a very high standard. It's great TV and you don't have to follow every single episode to keep up to date. Although I have to admit that I cannot miss an episode because I'm hooked.

2. Black Books
Ah those were the days. Black Books was written by Dylan Moran and Graeme Linehan. Dylan Moran starred as Bernard, the grumpy, Irish owner of a second hand bookshop. Bill Bailey is Manny, Bernard's assistant and the more together mentally of the pair. Fran is Bernard's oldest friend and drinking partner she is played by Tamsin Grieg.

The series is hilarious and basically follows the exploits of the three characters in their everyday lives. It's just brilliant and I urge you to buy it and watch it!

3. Lost
I loved lost at the beginning. Season 1 and 2 were absolutely brilliant. It began to lose its way a little in Season 3 but quickly picked up again in Season 4. I originally watched it because the idea of a plane crashing on a deserted island fascinated me. However, as I continued to watch I became so invested in the characters. I have to say that I like Jack, lots of people don't but I think the character is great - the good guy with a troubled past. not as troubled as Sawyer and Sayid - who I also love - but troubled none the less.

I enjoy the way the show is written. The flashbacks and flash forwards give the characters real depth and the acting is usually pretty good too. The show is obviously very complex to write and to follow but it is worth it as it is always enthralling.

4. Gilmore Girls
Just for the fluff and fun of it. Lorelai is the coolest mum ever to walk the planet and Rory is my kind of person, she reads almost as much as I do. I love Luke, he's just such a sympathetic character and the whole population of Stars Hollow just seem so eccentric and fun.

If I could move to Stars Hollow I would. Everyone is happy there, everyone has fun and things always work out in the end. Not to mention the events they have like the annual summer madness festival and the whole town movie night etc. It's great comfort TV.

5. Heroes
I only recently started watching heroes and I'm hooked. Like Lost, there are lots of different characters coming in and out of the story and usually several things going on at once. The writing is fantastic and it is all very imaginative and although it's kind of a fantasy, sci-fi type series, it remains rooted in reality. It can be gritty and seem very real at times.

Watching Heroes has had us discussing which power we would like. I would love Peter Petrelli's power to absorb other powers. Milo Ventimiglia is very likeable as the central character and does have a kind of everyman striving to do good kind of aura about him. I love Claire the cheerleader too. Hayden Panettiere gives a great performance as a girl who is constantly swinging from trusting her father to being betrayed by him.

6. Charmed
I started watching Charmed when I was on holiday in Australia. I was hooked right away. It's very fluffy TV and brilliant to watch when you've been stressed. The idea of 3 sisters sharing something so huge and literally saving each other's lives over and over is a nice one. Piper was always my favourite of the sisters, she always seemed most balanced and the sweetest, although Paige has great style and is really funny and Phoebe is great fun and full of energy.

7. The Simpsons
Everyone loves the Simpsons. I've been watching this since I was about 8 and I've always loved it. It gets funnier as you get older and you start to understand the jokes a little more. But basically it's just a classic. I'm slightly ashamed to say, I always identified most with Lisa.

8. Scrubs
Scrubs is just silly and fun. I love Dr Cox and all his many rants - Things I don't care about, Things that keep me awake at night etc. He's brilliant. J.D. is a great main character, but I love Elliot most, partly because she says stupid things that I could imagine myself saying. Scrubs makes me laugh, makes my dad laugh, makes my friends laugh, that's good enough for me.

9. Party of Five
A recently rediscovered gem for me! Oh the angst just pours out of the screen but you can't help but get swept along with it. When I was little I always identified with Claudia and the same still applies, even although I'm older now, I would still identify most with Claudia or Sarah. Bailey is the big brother everyone wants (apart from the unfortunate alcoholic incidents) and Charlie becomes a great big brother as the show progresses. It's so 90's but that's what I absolutely love about it.

10. Tom and Jerry
Ok this may seem unusual but I still love Tom and Jerry. If it happens to be on the TV I can't walk past it, I have to sit and watch. It cracks me up. I always feel vaguely sorry for Tom, but Jerry is a genius. A real one from my childhood.

Summary: A mixture of my favorite TV programmes
