Top Ten Unreadable/Unfinishable BooksNewest Review: ... a baby is born. And that's it. 4. Engleby - Sebastian Faulks. I'm sure this is a good book really, I think there is a murder in it and there is question as to whether the main character did it (he is mentally unstable so I'm told). I didn't even get as far as the murder in the book as I just couldn't stand to read any more. Maybe it was the writing style or the fact that it was set in ... more |

1. Salmon fishing in the Yemen. This was awful. Truly awful. It wasn't told as a story - you had to piece it together from excepts of diaries, letters and newspaper articles. It was rubbish!! Basically someone wants to put salmon in the Yemen, and someone else says you cant. So they set out to put salmon in the Yemen and prove everyone wrong. Boring! 2. Rules of Attraction. I saw the film of this with James Van Der Beek in it, so thought I'd give it a try. Mistake! The writing style is awful, basically its one big rant told from several viewpoints. The viewpoints happen to be that of college students who are only interested in getting in to each others pants. ... Read the complete review

I absolutely love reading books and I would say 90% of the time I really enjoy them. The problem is though that there is that 10% that are just so bad that they deserve to be labeled as the worst books ever so that people can be warned. However I do realise that everyone cannot have the same taste so please don’t take offence if I say I hate your favourite book. Anyway here is my list. 10: It by Stephen King. I loved the film when I saw it and I thought it was a good idea to read the book but I did not even get past the second chapter. The problem I have with this book about a group of kids being terrorised is that it is written so badly. ... Read the complete review

Books, I love them, but there are some that should never have been published! Here?s a selection that I, personally, couldn?t stomach: Lucy Talk by Fiona Walker: She?s a popular writer, is Fiona Walker, and personally I?d count some of her earlier work under my favourite books of all time, but not this one. Lucy Talk is, quite frankly, dull to the point of inanity. I hate to say it, but Fiona really should restrict herself to the straight-forward chick-lit she?s so excellent at, and never, ever again attempt to branch out into something more adventurous. There was a bit of a craze for ... Read the complete review

This isn't a particularly easy category to write in, actually, as many of the books that cause my brain to go numb at the very thought have also caused said brain to warn me not to read them in the first place! But one must be fair: that being so, I have restricted this list to books that I have actually read while (more or less) conscious. Looking at my list again now, it's turned into a bit more of a "worst books" list than a strictly "impenetrable books" list, but I don't really think that's a particularly big deal. So... 10) *FINNEGAN'S WAKE* All right, so it's a bit of an obvious choice. But I happen to think ... Read the complete review
