Advantages: None.
Disadvantages: Wastes Some Time of Yours.
I absolutely love reading books and I would say 90% of the time I really enjoy them. The problem is though that there is that 10% that are just so bad that they deserve to be labeled as the worst books ever so that people can be warned. However I do realise that everyone cannot have the same taste so please don’t take offence if I say I hate your favourite book. Anyway here is my list.
10: It by Stephen King.
I loved the film when I saw it and I thought it was a good idea to read the book but I did not even get past the second chapter. The problem I have with this book about a group of kids being terrorised is that it is written so badly. I have read King books since and have found them to be great but this one is unreadable. There are too many descriptions which get very boring indeed and the story moves so slowly that you think it is actually going to stop. Although one of my favourite King films I would steer clear from the book.
9: So Me by Graham Norton.
This autobiography I thought would be utterly fantastic as I love Graham and find him hilarious. Unfortunately it was as boring as ever and I did not even get half way through it and ended up just looking at the pictures and given up. I wouldn’t say it was 100% not interesting but it was the style it was written in was boring, tedious and overdone so it became an actual chore to get through the book.
8: One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey.
I know people are going to hate me for putting this one on my list but I can’t help it was so depressing I couldn’t read it. When I read I want to be entertained so I hated this book. My friends keep telling me to watch the film but I just cannot bring myself to as I might just get a bit too depressed. Plus I found the writing style quite hard to get into as it was hard going.
7: Talking with Serial Killers by Christopher Berry-Dee.
This is one of my sisters books as she is fascinated by how these people came to be what they did and exactly what environmental and physical factors led them to kill. Me I started to read this book and just got a bit creeped out and couldn’t finish it. It is in this list because I hate books that give you nightmares and show you an insight into some really horrible people that caused a lot of pain to many people so I would rather give this a miss thanks.
6: The Biology of Soil by Richard Bardgett.
Yes this books title is what it says it is and inside is over 200 pages of boredom. I had no choice in reading this book as I had to for a Biology project when I was doing my degree and it was so boring. I hate Ecology anyway so I hated studying it and the subject is so boring and to be honest I did not really want to know all I can about soil but for those soil enthusiasts here you go.
5: The Dark Moon by Julia Gray.
Now from reading the back of the cover I thought this book was going to be excellent and my kind of fantasy reading about a young boy who according to prophecy may be the guardian of the land. The book started off very well indeed but then about half way through it suddenly became very boring with extremely long useless descriptions and then the story went off on a tangent and I got totally lost. The problem is that the story is good but just gets tedious and the way Gray has written it just confuses the reader. I began to skip pages when I saw descriptions and just got the general gist of what was going on which I checked with my sister who had already read it and she said I had got it right. I would not recommend this book as there are much better fantasy ones with the same type of story out there.
4: The Jasper Forest by Julia Gray.
Yes I know that above I have told you how bad the first book was and that I wouldn’t recommend it but I was told by my cousin and sister to give it a go anyway and plus because it continues from the dark moon I wanted to know what happened. So I gave it a go and it was totally rubbish again down to very clumsy writing by Gray but also because the story is practically the same. Seriously if you have read the first book then you have read the second as it is similar and I bet you can guess the whole book from the start as it is that predictable. I did not finish it!
3: Feel by Robbie Williams.
Ok the second autobiography I have ever read and it was rubbish too which is why I have sworn I will not bother buying anymore. This book is just plain boring and I actually hated it which is a shame as I really wanted it because I think Robbie is great. The problem with this one is that everything that is mentioned is just not interesting and I would rather hear from Robbie himself than listening to this guy going on about what he is wearing and eating. I really wanted to read about his life but this book does not go into to much depth although I did only get half way through and give up so I may have missed it but to be honest I just don’t care.
2: American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis.
Again this is a book where I think the film is great but the book is unreadable to me not because it is bad or boring but because it is so disgusting. My sister was reading one passage out to me and I had to ask her to stop as it was making me feel physically sick. I thought I would give the book a go anyway but I couldn’t read it as I found it too disturbing. I think the film is brilliant but that Ellis must have a very strange mind indeed to come up with some of the things he has written because it gave me nightmares and if that means I am a wimp then I really don’t care.
1: Diary of a Manhattan Call Girl by Tracy Quan.
Never in my life have I read such drivel as this book. Now the premise of a call girl telling everybody her diary sounds interesting but believe me it is not. To be honest I did read the whole book and I just which I hadn’t as it was a waste of my time as I did not enjoy any of it. I think the reason I hated it so much was because it was boring, repetitive and even though there was so much sex in it, it just wasn’t sexy. I do not know what Quan was thinking when she wrote it because nobody in it is likeable and the story does not even play out well with the book being disjointed and the chapters not really making sense.
If I were you I would not even pick this book up in the store as I could go on and on about how bad it is. Also worth noting is that the story is that bad that I flicked through the whole book as not one part was interesting and unless you like reading about boring characters in the worst written book due to the diary style format just not working just give this one a miss.
So there is my very mixed list of books and I can safely say that I will never be trying to read any of them again. Try them at your own risk but I would avoid them.
Thanks for reading.

- 03/08/07 I LOVED One Flew Over but everyone has different tastes. My manager has that book 'Talking with serial killers' on her desk and I wouldn't mind having a look actually. I struggled with IT as well and thought it was much too long and highly over-rated... Finally, I read American psycho and I'm glad I did although it was disturbing and I'll never forget some of the horrendous things... Nicky x |

- 15/05/06 Can't agree with you about Cuckoo's Nest - but must admit I wouldn't consider reading most of the others! It's not often I can't finish a book, although I can think of one or two contenders.... |

- 08/05/06 Have to admit that I loved 'It' - but I did read it BEFORE I saw the film. Hazel xx |
