Advantages: Good results, great squad depth and good self belief
Disadvantages: In form Arsenal, Chelsea aswell as Manchester United stand in our way
I am writing this article to state my reasons why I believe that tottenham have all the credentials to at the minimum finish in the top four of the premiership and are potential and realistic contenders to win it. I will now go ahead and state my reasons:
1) We now have a world class and proven manager in Harry Redknapp who when he took over during our darkest time last season instilled great belief and gave us a winners mentality.
2) We have reason to believe that we can chalenge for the title due to our reasonable success against the top four clubs in recent seasons including leading manchester united 2-0 last season before admittedly losing quite badly, beating chelsea in the carling cup final two years ago, getting to the final of the carling cup again last season, drawing with arsenal 4-4 at the emirates last season, beating liverpool twice last season and adding to that record by beating liverpool 2-1 in our first game this season.
3) Our starting XI - Within out starting XI we have some very exciting and established players as well as some good prospects such as:
Heurelho Gomes - Brazil's second choice goalkeeper has been in top form putting in world class performances that we knew he was capable of when first signed although he has had a few blips in form.
Ledley King - our inspirational captain who battles chronic knee injuries to play every week, an asset to any team.
Gareth Bale - the brilliant welsh left back is a great future player and has shown signs of his ability for Wales and Spurs.
The exceptional Luca Modric - A brilliant playmaker who controls the game for us and is extremly skillful.
Tom Huddlestone and Jermaine Jenas - Two brilliant young talents who can pose more than a threat for any team and are both players in the frame to play for their country in South Africa.
Jermaine Defoe - Arguably the most in form english striker at the moment with I think 6 or 7 goals to his name, Defoe has been a revelation since his return from Portsmouth and is an important player for us.
Those just a selection of the brilliant players that Harry has in his starting XI, others include Robbie Keane, Arron Lennon, Peter Crouch and Jonathan Woodgate.
4) The depth of the squad - We have finally got a squad that is capable of competing with the top four (Liverpool aside, whos squad seems paper thin) , with the likes of Pavlyuchenko, Crouch, Bentley, Dos Santos, Kranjcar and Cudicini waiting for their opportunity there is real competition for places should anyone slip up.
5) Our belief and desire - With our reputation of being a cup side and having so much expectation on us to break into the top four for the last couple of years I think it is about time we actually did so and proved the critics wrong. we believe that it is possible and that we have the players, managers and support to do it.
In conclusion I believe that we ave every chance of making it into the Champions League for next season and I believe we have every chance of challenging for the Premier League and the Carling Cup (in quarter final against manchester united) this year and challenging for the Premier League on a more consistent basis, although it is early on in the season we have had some good results and with plans for a brand new stadium I think the future looks bright for Tottenham Hotpur.

Summary: a great club ready for the next level

- 13/11/09 Losing Modric was such bad luck, for Spurs and Croatia! I reckon you grab 5th this year... |
|
- 11/11/09 If i was a betting man don't think Spurs will quite make the top 4 this time out. Liverpool have a nasty habit of turning things round, On paper city have a better team and more spending come January. Your probs looking between 5th-7th, maybe a decent cup run. |

- 09/11/09 Man city look shot for the commitment required in the winter and Liverpool all over th eplace. I think Villa will nick 4th though as the loss of Moderic has been telling for you. |
