Advantages: Great when you have family round

Disadvantages: not good on the hips

Traditional Christmas dinner, well I think everyone is different on what they like or don't like.

Me I look forward to cooking my christmas dinner and most of the family go on a diet and don't eat for a week leading up. To me its the next best thing from the children thinking santa has left all these presents for them.

To start with the table has to be dressed (as i call it), Christmas table cloth and your mats, a centre piece in the middle but not to big or you won't have enough space for everything else.
Cutlery and extra for my jars, and DON'T forget christmas crackers on each mat.
A glass for each mat and children's cup for the little one's.

I start cooking on christmas eve, I always cook the beef and chicken and when completely cold I leave in the fridge till morning ( it saves me time and I find it easier to cook). I peel all the vegetables last minute before I go to bed and leave them in cold water.
Christmas morning we open presents and I get to work :) Cooking the sausage/bacon wraps and veg and everything else follows.

This is our Traditional christmas Dinner

We don't have a starter anymore because everyone likes something different and I found it to much, but also our dinner is that big that we never have room :)

So here's the low down on our plates yummy.

Chicken, no-one likes turkey
Beef
Sausage/bacon wraps
Crispy roast potatoes
Boiled potatoes
Parsnips
Leek
Sprouts
Peas
Carrots
Stuffing
Gravy
A plate of yorkshire puddings

Then the sauces

Apple
Cranberry
Mint
Mustard
Beetroot
Pickled onions

And your plate has to be towered high, because it is christmas :)

To make it more festive I always put a cheesy cd of christmas songs on in the background.
And another tradition of ours is our crackers, I get the children to help me make these about a week before and we always put pressies in them.
There is so much you can actually put in a cracker, novelty undies goes down a treat, jewellery, which reminds me, years ago we had an extra cracker in the pack, a little different to all the others, I did look at it and I think I don't remember that one. Anyway my husband and I pulled and out popped a box and party hat with as I thought the joke, but it it read ( I won't put it all but ) WILL YOU MARRY ME and the ring was in the box.
This is a good way of having fun with all the family at the table.

For after everyone has christmas pudding with cream,
shortly after a mince pie ( with or without ) carnation cream and a small coffee and an after eight mint to finish and to be honest after all that we are all finished :)

We always buy a large chicken so there is enough left over for that traditional boxing day curry, but instead of traditional turkey curry it is chicken curry.

And there you have my low down, we do a few things that you would call traditional but the whole day to us is our traditional way.

Summary: A low down on my day with christmas dinner
