Government rubbish.. (Train safety)

Why is it that the ATP system is deemed too expensive for roll out on the existing train infrastructure. Although the arguments are fairly obvious, surely a price should not be put on lives. Regardless of protection systems or not, trains are generally safe, and I often wonder if the figures released for ATP roll-out refer to *ALL* trains/lines getting ATP. Surely there is little reason to use this system on all the trains. Would a combination of the two systems available be better? For example, the West Coast Main Line trains would be more usefully equipped with ATP, but a smaller regional train running on rural lines would never need it. Summary: |
