Advantages: quicker than roads
Disadvantages: expensive and dangerous
The state of our railways are terrible, with an accident happening far too often. and it's no wonder as rail bosses are ordering maintenaince staff NOT to repair dangerous sections of track. The day after the Hatfield crash safety crews found an 18inch crack in a rail only 10 miles away at Kings Langley, apparently it was there a year!!! At busy Willesdon junction in North London - used by Virgin high speed trains and heavy frieght - one hundred defects are in a mile long section alone. A dozen concrete sleepers at Willesdon, destoyed by three derailments have not been replaced- a few wooden sleepers had been slipped in between them instead. Safety workers had scrawled over track at Kenton station, North London, three times to pinpoint a worsening fault. but nothing has been done. One section of track in the same area which should have been removed 36 hours after detection was still there nine months later!!! And wer'e told to use public transport instead of our cars!!! well I think they've got a right bloody cheek!!! I'd much rather know I'm safe and use my car, even if I do have to pay high prices for petrol, even with the high price of fuel it's still cheaper than public transport anyway, fare prices are far too high, and you don't always get a seat on a train so you have to stand yet still pay the same price as those who get a seat and get to travel in comfort. I think if you have to stand on a train journey you ought to get a reduced rate, but no, these penny pinching rail bosses want all they can out of the passengers and don't even care about our safety, what are they spending this money on? it certainly isn't maintenaince!!! Even rail chief Gerald Corbett refuses to travel by rail as he says they are not safe enough!!!! enough said!!!
