Advantages: Being dry, Being Warm
Disadvantages: Looking like a scally
I'm an outdoors kind of person. I like being outside, simple as that. Or at least simple is how I see it. You see, because I live in soggy England and not Africa, the problem with being outside is that you get very wet. Often. If I lived in Africa, I would probably be a hermit who never left the house for anything. I'd be so bad, that even there was a fire, I'd hide in the bath till I got rescued. Obviously the bath would be full of water, therefore saving me from burning. Duh. Problem being, my passport reads GBR. And my teenage milky white chops glare at the customs officers every time I go overseas. Margate looks more and more appealing every time. It is thanks to our weather that a couple of years ago I invested in a Sprayway Gore-tex coat. For those of you who are blessed with living in an area with street corners that don't attract the whole local pre-pubescent community, sadly, the Sprayway is overcoat of choice. Just like the 3 litre, 100% EXTRA FREE!! Bottle of White lightning cider is the refreshment of choice. And, for unknown reasons, toddler scale baseball caps, balanced with the finest care just on the crown of the head, Scull cap style, is the head gear to be seen in. It takes all of the above, plus tucking your 2 stripe socks into just the one tracksuit leg, to be officially "scally". Why am I telling you this? I'll tell you why. My Sprayway. Very practical, has never let me down once. It has pockets in all the right places, including a huge vertical zip map pocket for when your yomping over hills, and want a handy place to keep the map which "you don't really need" because " you know where you're going" Said pocket is also large enough to fit a mobile phone to call the Mountain rescue team because "that wall is new" I have since been reliably informed that Hadrian's wall is NOT new. T
he main selling point of the coat is the fact it's made from Gore-Tex material. Gore-Tex basically means that it's totally and utterly guaranteed water and wind proof. Even Manchester rain proof. Because it's water and wind proof, they also keep you pleasantly warm. I could go into the scientific ways of how it works (leave remarks on the comments page if you do - but be warned - i'll be able to say "well you asked me to!") Other great features on the coat are: ***Double Zip thingy*** No, it's not so you can do a "batman cloak." Its so you can zip in a snuggly fleece to keep warm on those chilly treks across Salford precinct on the way to the offie. (or those jolly jaunts up Ben Nevis). However, be warned that not all fluffy anoraks have the same zip width, and the wrong coat combination can leave you rolling round like Basil Fawlty trying to get your sisters bright yellow coat away, after seemingly bonding for life. ***Velcro Baffle*** Not an odd board game in the mould of 'Risk'. Perfect for keeping even a stubbornly persistant Mr Wind, mid arguement with Mr Sun from getting even a piffling draught through. Also good for getting anything woolly (ie gloves and hats, NOT sheep......) stuck to. ***Elsaticated ties*** Sounds a bit like a channel 5 movie, perhaps. Used by afore mentioned scallies as the modern day replacement for the corset. Actually there to stop also afore mentioned Mr Wind from "getting his wind up" ***Helmet Hood*** Those people who read that title and had filthy thoughts, leave. I had to call it that, because that's what the designer called it! Basically a hood that's like a helmet. Not to be used as a crash helmet mind. No one mentioned crashing whilst wearing it. It for the rain. One thing I will say is that I only wear my Sprayway in it's intended habitat, over t'yonder thar hill
s. Unfortunately, Sprayway has pandered to it's market somewhat by stitching huge logo's to the sleeves and breast of the coat, but I can live with that. To summarise, I like my Sprayway, but I won't wear it to the off licence because then I get asked for ID.
