Triple Jump

Description: Sports: Athletics / Sport Topic: Athletic Disciplines

Newest Review: ... a hop, that is the jumper lands on the same leg that he/she took off with. This is immediately followed by another jump and the jumper lands on the other leg (step). The final (third) leap should take the jumper all the way to the sand pit. The overall distance from the take-off board (the initial part of the first ... more

Premium Review Triple Jump: A brief history of triple jump (1187 words)

I was actually quite surprised to see so many ops about triple jump compared with the other more popular track and field events. Usually the triple jump is one of the side-lined events in athletics, but it seems that dooyoo-ers do not go along with the trend. This urged me to write a few words myself about the triple jump, mainly as an introduction for those who do not really know what this event is (many 'non-athletics' people might not have heard of this event at all) I must start off by warning you that I'm not a triple jumper. My background is a sprints background, but I am currently having a year off from sprints to train for the triple jump - an ...  Read the complete review

Not everyone realises this but Triple Jump is one of the hardest events on the body there is. It looks easy, just jump three times and you have a medal, but that is far from true. Apart from the fact that you not only need a far jump, speed on the runnway, balance, landing technique and more, Triple Jump is hard on the body and too many jumps can really hurt you. Another hard thing about Triple Jump is getting your run-up right. You have to go from exactly the right place so taht you hit the board perfectly at top speed for a great jump. The current World Record held by Britain's Jonathan Edwards is rarely neared and it will take an immesne ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Triple Jump: Jonathan Edwards (202 words)

I've always felt the problem with Jonathan (if you can talk about 'problems' for the World Record holder and now Olympic champion) was his mental approach. Edwards claims his Christianity gives him strength and that this season he has 'given all his problems over to Jesus'. I don't doubt the sincerity of his beleif however I have often felt that it is precisely these beliefs that are incongruous to the hard world of competitive sport and that, far from giving him mental strength, his all-pervasive Christianity has cluttered his mind with doubt when he should be focusing on competition. I guess Jonathan's performance in Sydney ...  Read the complete review

He was just like Linford, wasn't he? Oldest man in the competition, world champion yet failing to secure gold at the last Olympics, looked like he was going to fail to get gold again, and then pulling it out at the last minute. He may have looked grey, but Edwards jumped like a sprightly twenty year old on his way to a much deserved medal. He especially looked good in the middle phase, the 'skip' of the hop-skip-and-jump. Athletes tend to lose their strength and springiness as they get older and it's the middle phase that suffers. Edwards was in near-perfect form. This would have been his last Olympics anyway, so it was nice to go out on a high ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Triple Jump: At long last Edwards does it!  (154 words)

Johnathan Edwards at long last has landed the Olympic Triple Jump Gold medal. Fantastic. It just goes to show what hard work can do. Injury and a loss in form had dogged him but he has shaken it off to show he still possesses the qualities he had when he broke the world record. He may a little grey around the edges but he has the jumping ability of one of the native kangaroos. With 3 guys in the final we had to win something. We did and we won the Gold. it has gone someway to being a consolation for Colin Jackson finishing 5th in the Hurdles final. This may be the last chance for GB to win gold because the last few competitors left in the games are not really ...  Read the complete review
