Euro 2008 is brilliant, even without England (Turkey National Football Team)

Turkey have just made it through to the Semi Finals of Euro 2008. Amazing as with 1 minute to go they were effectively out.

One of the most dull games of the tournament was about to end 0-0, when Ivan Klasnic scored a goal with what was expected to be one of the last few kicks of the game. Incredibly Turkey's Semih Senturk scored less than a minute later to take the game to penalties. Amazingly it was just like watching friends of mine who just a couple of days earlier had done the same thing whilst playing Pro Evo 8.

After a horrendous game though it was an amazing finish and the penalties were incredible. I was watching the game with a Turkish fan and we were celebrating every Turkish goal and every Croatian miss. Obviously the alcohol helped (writing a review after about 8 pints isn't the most easiest thing to do) but I understood what every kick meant to him.

Croatia were by far the better side throughout, and had the best chances. However Turkey were never beaten as they have been in all their other games. They beat Switzerland with less than 3 minutes to spare and beat the Czech Rep with less than 6 minutes to spare, but each time they knew they could do it. If only England had more of that mentality

Croatia however having beat England to get to the Finals showed the same English mentality and crumpled at the prospect of having to take penalty kicks. GAH!!!

Games always mean more when there is something at stake and tonight it was Turkish pride. Most of the pub were supporting Croatia, so to support Turkey was amazing.

Come on Turkey!!!

If they beat Germany then they will be in the Final. As unlikely as that seems, nothing is impossible after tonight.

Summary: Who needs England!
