Why is there never anything good on! (TV Programs in General)

The television is the quintessential household entertainment appliance, with most people regularly watching the television, it is no suprise that if you admit to not having one, you attain some very odd looks. This review sums up my opinion of this technological legend.

The first thing I will say is that whilst I live in a house with a 50 inch plasma screen, I seldom watch TV. That's not to say I don't like television, I just find that increasingly the internet offers better entertainment. If I have missed a program that I wanted to see on mainstream television, I'll watch it on BBC Iplayer or 4OD. I don't have SkyPlus, so if I want to watch a program on say Animal Planet, I am afraid I have no choice but to become a couch potato and watch it on the TV.

One of my gripes about television, is that even when you pay for additional channels, it seems like there is never anything good on. Prime time TV is often wasted with some depressing soap or historical documentary and even on the more watchable sky channels, you simply get constant repeats of programs that were made 10 years ago.

TVs now come in a variety of styles, from the traditional CRT to the more modern LCD and Plasma Screens. I definately think it's worth investing in the latter over the historical relics, as you will get a larger image, a better quality image and ultimately a product which looks a hell of a lot bigger and is much more portable when you find you need to move it.

I think the switch that we're going to see in Britain from Analog to Digital is going to make television in general much better. Perhaps it will inspire more people to invest in digital packages and thus make a bigger market for non standard channels. The quality of programs in general will also inevitably improve.

For now, Television is still a very popular form of entertainment. But I do wonder if in the future, it will not be as staple as it once was. If I want the news or weather, I go on the computer. The same with music. I wonder if this is where everyone is heading.

Summary: TV is great, but I think it has found a rival in the form of the internet.
