On the downside, there have been reports of boisterous - even troublesome beer fuelled louts spoiling things for many, on occasions. The matches are contested by the players who wear coloured kit, with wickets and boundaries being greeted by tannoy music to increase the atmosphere. Twenty20 is a 20 overs per side cricket match, which in the UK is contested by first class counties (professional level) annually. This format is markedly quicker that traditional 4 day championship matches and usually lasts no more than 3 and a half hours, which is a lot less than the 40 or 50 overs one day games. Due to the quick nature of the sport, a new breed of crowd has been attracted that previously had little or no interest in live cricket. This has given the positive effect of increased revenue for clubs and a wider audience and more TV coverage and sponsorship. On the downside, there have been reports of boisterous - even troublesome beer fuelled ... Read the complete review

the twenty20 cup has basically been the basis for the revolution within world cricket. Over the past four years there has been an annual competition where basically each side gets 20 overs, which if you don't know is not very many, to get a hat full of runs. It is serious entertainment and i think has been a breath of fresh air for cricket in this country. My local team is Leicestershire who have been pretty successful in the competition. A family ticket, which is 2 adults and 2 kids, cost about £30 when i went last season which for 3 hours entertainment is quality. It has really got a lot of people in to the game, which some see as boring, but no-one can claim seeing ... Read the complete review

There's an Arabic proverb that says you should always chose you spot well when planting your parasol on the beach as it may be mined and a good day can quickly turn into a very bad one-and that certainly could be the case for the English Twenty20 this year if the Indian Premier League get their way. The paradox, of course, is teams like mine, the Northamptonshire Steelbacks, can only really make finals day-held at the Rose Bowl- with our rebel ICL player's participation, but then we will be banned from the newly formed and very lucrative Champions League for doing just that, effectively the IPL trying to crush the rebel ICL format by proxy through the English county ... Cricket has a big problem. Unlike other sports cricket matches take 1-5 days. Only the fervent supporters follow this game. In 2003 a remarkable thing happened the English counties with the blessing of ICC (cricket governing body) introduced a short version of the game. It is a much livelier affair than other forms of cricket. Like with other forms of cricket two teams play, each team plays single innings of 20 hours. Match is completed in three hours. Each team bats for 1 ½ hours. Ion between there is a carnival atmosphere, games for kids on the pitch, entertainment for adults. Twenty-20 cup is domestic tournament played amongst counties in England and Wales. ... Read the complete review

Cricket for a long time has endured a less than favourable repuation amongst this country's sporting establishment, more often that not it has been in the shadows of football. One of the main reason's for this was perhaps England lack of success in the sport but considering the football teams performance of late this can easily be discounted. The obvious reason is more the perception of cricket and it's relavity mundane viewing as apposed to 90 minutes of football. However the problem is, if cricket is compared to football in this manner it will always come out a loser. Although the Ashes rekindled the public's interest after years, cricket needed something new to ... Read the complete review
