Public support during the recent fuel protests was obviously massive, it seemed like the whole nation were behind the truckers and farmers who started the protests and against the government's high fuel pricing.
What took you so long?
I found it all very strange.
A month ago there was a 'dump the pump' campaign organised in protest of high fuel prices, where the British public were encouraged to not buy petrol for one day in order to voice their united opinion in a peaceful way. Did they do it? No.

Why did the fuel crisis hit so fast last week? Because the very same people who support the protests, who ignored the dump the pump campaign and yet who claim to care so much about fuel prices were driving frantically around in their cars trying to buy as much fuel as possible! Panic buying emptied the petrol stations long before tankers not being able to leave the depots had any effect.

I agree fuel prices are stupidly high in this country which is why I don't have a car, but fuel prices here have been more expensive than in Europe since forever and despite the effort of many pressure groups the British public has never bothered to protest about it before, I can't help feeling this is another case of everyone jumping on the same bandwagon.
Only a few weeks ago the news was full of people complaining about not being able to cross the channel and how irresponsible and inconvenient the protests in France were, the British press was criticising the French government for giving into to protestors there, and now they're criticising the British government for not giving in to protestors here!

It seems to me that the great British public is confused:
We want lower prices but aren't prepared to take action ourselves.
We support the recent blockades yet still drive around madly looking for the last drop of petrol.
We don't support the recent blockades if they happened abroad.
We crit
icise foreign governments for giving in to protestors.
We criticise our own government for not giving in to protestors.

??????? Confused??????? I think so!

Think I'll leave you drivers to work out what it is you want while I walk to the supermarket and see if the panic buyers have left me anything to eat....
