Advantages: Not many!

Disadvantages: Taxes

First of all, in order to put the record straight, petrol prices in Uk are high, but so are in most European countries.
We need to accept that petrol is one of the most taxed items. Most of the money we pay for our petrol goes to the taxman. I spend around 30-40 Pounds per month since I have a relatively limited use of my car when I am in UK, unless I spend some long weekends away in summer, in which case I share the petrol cost for the journey with my companions.

I always feel the pain when I go to the petrol station and refill the tank, the petrol goes in, and in and in, and the money go out!

I would like the Government to put more incentives for hybrid cars, like the Toyota Prius and car on hydrogen. The technology is now available, but I suspect the big oil companies are lobbying for this source of energy to be delayed.

My conclusion is that we should push our local MP to press the Governement to make it more available to use cars on hydrogen.

Summary: More incentive to use Hydrogen cars?

I liked your article. You are correct about incentives - cash discounts are often what makes people opt for change to a low emission vehicle. The irony with hybrids is that they are often more polluting than an equivalent sized diesel car - especially at the small end. A Toyota prius costing 16K claims to do 80MPG - real world economy can be as low as 48. However a 1.6 ford fiesta diesel claims about 62MPG, where 55MPG is easily achievable in real driving. The fiesta is about £6000 cheaper and puts out less CO2 - but the "hybrid" sounds more ecofriendly!
